I am taking that soviet horror movie suggestion immediately to heart, that sounds fantastic.

Tell me what you think about it! I love talking about old movies, especially gothic horror. Russian art and architecture makes everything inherently more spooky.

fall is fighting for it's place right now but summer is still trying lol i dont mind the fall, im a sucker for cute sweaters!

the US horror industry can come off feeling so cheesy after watching a forging horror film. i feel like hollywood really relies on the cheap tricks like pop-up scares and making 5 of the same movies. i'll check out that recommendation for sure! i've actually been looking at the netflix options for korean horror, those make me so uncomfortable lmaooo

any of you watch cheesy ghost hunting shows? >.> im kinda obsessed with them, the worse they are the better

I don't watch those reality shows. I have watched Grave Encounters (2011) multiple times though. It's a parody found footage movie of ghost hunting shows. The movie also has a sequel.

Not as good but still entertaining.

I watch them sometimes. I think I prefer cryptid hunting shows in the category of "people doing fake/absurd things for tv". Watching people pretend to be REALLY freaked out over a single branch rustling in "squatch country" is great for a drinking game.

I agree that US horror is super hit or miss. It's one of the few genres left that isn't overwhelmed with big budget blockbuster garbage, but that means a lot of cheap, low-effort projects can get picked up as easily as something really special can. Foreign movies come pre-filtered since you probably won't hear about them unless they're worth hearing about. ^^

Other people trying to get to the 100 post count without feeling like weirdos for forcing posts onto old threads?? My people!

I'm also really picky about my horror - any of the subgenres I like I usually have to add "when it's done right" to the end, lol. Found footage and mockumentary are favorites but, again, when they're done right. Currently obsessed with Savageland, a mockumentary horror film I watched recently.

I've run into some foreign horror films on tubi that I wouldn't classify as big horror movies. Such as a Spanish language zombie flick.

I tend to like J and K horror movies the most.

French movies can also get...yeah...I've rewatched Martyrs (2008). It's not just the unrelenting gore, it's the moments that should be peaceful feeling utterly unsettling. The American Remake takes away all that uniqueness. I could live with it if it was less gore but they just changed the movie into standard American Horror fare. With a chosen one for some reason.

French Extremity films are A+, completely justifies the continued existence of the French. I think one of the big issues with remakes is that films are reflective of the culture they come from, so even a shot-for-shot remake of a movie will wind up different because of the different mindsets behind it. I can't think of too many times it's been for the better. Maybe Seven Samurai -> Magnificent Seven? Magnificent Seven isn't better than SS but it's a good movie in its own right. Anyway, that's a lot of words to say that I agree that the Martyrs remake loses all the appeal of the original. Boo, hiss.

J- and K-horror is also great. I fell down the Japanese grindhouse rabbithole a few years back and started showing Tokyo Gore Police to anyone willing to sit still for an hour. Yoshihiro Nishimura is a treasure.

Was a busy week and things just returned to normal today XD

It's Taiwanese but I've rewatched it so many times: The Bridge Curse (2020).

Japanese horror: Pulse and Audition.

Please be aware that the last one gets pretty extreme by the final act.

For Korean: The Wailing.

I've always enjoyed paranormal films! I also love Asian horror films. I've seen the Wailing, Pulse, and read the novel Audition. I love Ryu Murakami's work, I think he's a fantastic author. I'll have to check out the Bridge Curse,

Didn't realize Audition was based on a book! Guess I have to put that on my very long reading list. Currently getting through the Dune series.

The Bridge Curse has twists and turns so at least one re-watch is advised :)

haven't been here in a while, thought i'd pop in and see what i missed - love that spoopy season is approaching and we're on the topic of horror, though i can't say i've watched any decent horror in quite some time.. i'm more of a psychological thriller fan anyway. speaking of which, anyone here watch Black Mirror?

I'm trying hard to get into that blue building, but it also gives me a secret guilty pleasure excuse to put off working. I love Subeta but wow has it been a little tough for my attention span - why work when I could be collecting cute little pixel arts?

On another thought, if Subeta ever developed a merch shop with different pets as plushies - I would be all in! What do you think?
