I'm alive! It's been...a time, haha. While my mental health is improving somewhat, still don't know what's up exactly with my ankle/foot (keep getting handed off to other doctors...). So can't do that much, and it's summer... Anyways! Hope you have been doing well and had a good Masquerade! (Any plans?)

- finished the second book of the King Killer Chronicles. I liked it although I'm pretty sure I know why you didn't. Now I'm reading a book that has surprised me. It's called "Red Rising" byPierce Brown. I thought it was going to be like Heinlein's "The Moon is a harsh Mistress" but it's not. So far it's Braveheart meets Pygmallion during the Hunger Games. It's just a reminder that sometimes Science Fiction isn't always a cookie-cutter experience. How about you? :D

I just finished reading Miranda in Milan. It wasn't bad, but the unwillingness of people to explain her situation to Miranda got frustrating for me after a while.

The story is about Miranda from The Tempest and what happens to her after she and her father go home. The whole court is kind of scared of her and also contemptuous, as they feel like she was raised wild and has no idea how to behave like a lady - but also they do nothing to teach her how to behave, and make her go veiled all the time. So it's very weird for her.

It's the author's first novel, and maybe she'll improve as she goes. It's a good start but it reads to me like it's unfinished/missing something vital.

I have read that Red Rising series. It came off to me more based on the YA sorted-dystopia model than the classic SF model. So it's still predictable, you were just using the wrong pattern match lol

Even the less-than-best weapons that get recommended are super expensive. There are so many weapons, some are cheap, I often wonder if someone couldn't recommend some less-than-a-million-sP weapons I could use? But it's hard to find that info. Or to figure it out myself. I did get some good hints from the writeup on fighting the Hydras, though!

writing report: only managed about 200 words yesterday. Hope to finish the story today, and also edit and post a different one.

- That sounds interesting. I'm adding it to my list. :) Well, I did just start it. lol I think I'm on chapter 14 of the first book. I agree, it is very annoying when characters don't speak up. I think authors think it adds to the suspense/drama/tension of a scene or story arch. I find myself wanting to ask them what they were thinking that made it seem like a good idea to write a scene that way. I also think that it shows a lack of constructive criticism as beta readers would have most certainly pointed it out. :D Aside from books, how have you been?

I guess I'm like you and would prefer the physical version as well. Today I was watching a YouTube vid covering "cozy games" and a new version of Harvest Moon is out in a few days and the older version is free to download until then so I'm going to try and get it.

I'm hoping you get a flash of inspiration and were able to finish! Our internet and cable went out an hour ago so I'm on my phone trying to post this. Hopefully it works and my phone hasn't autocorrected anything too cringy. :-P

I went for a walk for inspiration and it worked - it usually does work! I have a good idea for the story (it's a post nanotech-gray-goo-scenario "cozy apocalypse" story where the nanotech left these few girls alive and they are sort of having a great time doing whatever they can imagine but of course the whole doomed humanity thing is looming)

I forgot to ask, what was it that made you figure you knew what I didn't like about Wise Man's Fear? As for non reading stuff, I guess it's fine, it's a weekend so I'm doing writing and cooking and cat care...

Yeah, they don't really give you a whole "what if I just want to do as best I can without spending much of my sP on it" hahah I just keep doing training and battle quests and hoping for the best. I did in my first couple months of playing get an Amulet of Neutrality from the Hustler, so when I get a pet up to tier 9 I can use that I think heh

doing alright thanks. The majority of my pains have decreased in my ankle. I'm trying to not go too crazy with getting things I wanna get done finished but I'm happy to be progressing toward more mobility :) How about you?

lol well at least they both start with an A :P Well he didn't, but I suspect its because it was really really bruised when last he looked at it. And i think he aggivated it with the cast saw which is why it hurt for a couple of days. It's not hurting so much right now so we're hoping all is well. I'll know more on the 28th. I refused to see him on my birthday LMAO, not that anyone can blame me :D
