You have to subscribe to the thread (click on the sidebar "Forums" topic and you'll see "Subscribed Threads" as a heading on the top) and then you can turn notifications on or off. "On "means you'll get an alert every time someone posts on the thread.

Does that make sense? I can provide a screenshot if needed.
