my mom is a good conversation person with everyone except my next younger sister, who interprets her questions (that are attempts at eliciting more conversation) as inquisition. She is really fun to talk to for me. We talk a lot about her friends and what she's doing and health stuff and food ... She is 80 and in excellent shape for her age. Except for her intestine which has had her in the hospital a lot recently. She drove me around including hour-long trips on the highway with ease. She is so active and vigorous! I'm worried but also optimistic.

My brother was closer to my mom and whenever she found an illegal substance (pot - which I didn't even imbibe in) in his room she immediately thought it was me hiding it in there. LOL!!

- i had no idea. the past 7 years i've been in a carefully maintained bubble by my hubby and son. now that i'm online by myself that bubble has popped. sad thing is that all the places i'd get news from are, well, crappy now. i have no idea where to go for anything anymore so i'll definitely folow up on those sites you listed. we can't go full out prepper here. we don't have the room plus we have no where to garden. although i have been wanting to grow some tomatoes but if i did it'd have to be in a pot. omg, if i was around candy like that i'd weigh 3,000 lbs and be like jabba the hut... rofl 😂 i don't know how you can control yourself but i give you kudos for it. 😀

- where did you read the bad reviews? goodreads? the triple narrative lasts for about 3/4 of the book. then it goes to a single narrator. yes, it is filled to overflowing with tropes but they're coming together in an interesting way. i'm almost done with it and have the 2nd one waiting. i'll let you know how it goes. maybe, one day, you'll want to pick it up again because it's not that bad for what it is. ;) (it's certainly not lord of the ringsbut it's not completely horrid , so far, either.)

well to be fair...online used to be fine and news wasn't so on and news weren't so intent on hiding stuff from people. If you want good news just like youtube cats/rabbits/goats videos lol :) The sites I listed do tell the truth so if its too much you can skip them but I like feeds that show me what is actually going on in the world...I don't want to be blind or just be told what someone else wants me to hear...vs. the truth. So I do the sites but if its overwhelming at times I just don't check the news for a few days and that helps :) Just remember you can always store things under beds/behind couches/closets etc :P so having "some" supply is better than none <3 That stinks on the garden! We are renting so we can't tear up the actual dirt (sucks!) so we've got a bunch of container plants lol :P you should totally grab a pot or two and do some tomatoes and or bell peppers! :D And LOL on the candy! Its good but I've always been able to resist desserts/sweets :P Now throw me some potato/chips/other chips and I'm a salty snack kind of girl haha! Less control there :)

I thought I said before? maybe not. It wasn't the goodreads or anything, it was a specific friend on Discord who has recommended me several books I really enjoyed. This friend had read the book and said they definitely recommended I didn't, a year or two before I picked it up, and I discord-searched trying to find what a different person had said about the book that was positive and found that comment.

It's specifically the romance style that I was finding distasteful. While I can forgive what amounts to a protagonist who is somehow weirdly attractive to everyone, and sex between a young teen character and a mature adult treated as a fun fling rather than abusive, and askance takes on same-sex attraction that is treated as especially dangerous, I am leery of any and put off severely by all three in quick succession.

I've read works that have all these things and are fine, but they're warning flags for me and in this case combining those warning flags with my friend's advice not to read it made me decide to stop reading.

- did yu ever watch any of the prepper shows on tv a few years ago? i watched one where a texas billionaire (i think it was texas) built a multi-story bunker that held multiple apartments and common areas. the thing was huge and completely self-sufficient. he was going to sell the apts for a few million each. problem was that no one could move in until the apocolypse. i wonder if he was ever able to sell all the apts. lol 😂

- ok, i understand why you don't want to read anymore. i respect your decision. personaly, i've read books that are quite a bit harsher with those subjects than this one is so it didn't raise flags for me. i do have to say, though, that the teen/adult situation you refer to was addressed in a later chapter where another adult asked if it was consentual. upon hearing the teen's response that it was not the adult took care of things in an appropriate way.:)

yeah, it isn't the "dark" side of it that I dislike especially, it's quite difficult to explain what makes one version tolerable for me and another not. This one was very borderline, I might not have quit just for that if it wasn't for the thing my friend said.

It's odd that you say this "another adult asked if it was consentual. upon hearing the teen's response that it was not the adult took care of things" because the one I was thinking of, I recalled it as a) it was consensual and b) the adult was sent away because her feelings were getting too attached, not because what she had done was inappropriate. But maybe later more is revealed about that and I'll never read that part 😆

I don't think I've really watched any prepper shows haha :) But I have seen some cool videos of amazing bunkers underground! That's totally the way to do it if you are going to though....completely self sufficient lol :) I'd LOVE to have one of those! I'm pretty sure he probably did sell them haha! Especially in today's climate LOL

we visited a historical site and got a tour, we visited a cat cafe and petted cats, we went to my mom's friend's house and saw all the quilts she'd been making, and we cooked for each other & traded recipes. Also sat around and talked a bunch, and I got my mom and middle sister to watch Encanto and Turning Red on my Disney Plus account. Went to youngest sister's younger kids' high school graduation party, too. It was fun.

oh no! if it was in his room I would've expected he had put it there, that's very odd, though it depends on a lot of subjective info too. In my own house... it was the parents with the illegal substance. I got snitty when I found mom's pot but there wasn't a lot I could do about it other than be annoyed (and annoying) about it. 😆
