Happy Luminaire my loves. We’ll, it is finally snowing like crazy up here. Those little creatures who hibernate are burrowed in. Those of us who have higher metabolisms are down in the kitchen making love to the pies, nogs, stollens and hot German mulled wines that Mr Lungwort specializes in. My seven little ones are putting on weight at an amazing rate and I can hardly keep with the amount of calories I need to feed them through the winter. I’m not complaining! Between Weldon and Mr Lungwort, I’m luxuriating in the sweet bounty our land provides.

A quick update on my Author: he visited his primary care provider last Thursday and got a referral to a top-drawer cardiologist. No appointment yet with them yet. ECG was normal, labs were unremarkable except for a slight elevation in BNP, a protein that is elevated in congestive heart failure. So no diagnosis yet. PCP gave him furosemide, low dose to help with water retention and it’s helped.

He felt better today and yesterday, enough to get a Yule Tree, finish installing the lights in the yard, and finish taping the Sheetrock in the bedroom. He doesn’t have a lot of stamina, but he can pace himself. He’s not gasping for breath like he was a week ago.

The working differential diagnosis is(in order of likelihood) Congestive Heart Failure vs Heart Valve failure vs Pulmonary Embolism vs Pulmonary Fibrosis. I talk to him in a week, I’ll keep you posted.

Also glad to hear the little ones are growing and doing well.

He sounds somewhat like my father now, despite his age he still keeps to his daily routine and chores. Like him my father paces himself, I can only imagine mineself at his age.

In a few hours I'll haul my crate to the body shop I've been referred to. Mine not certain about coming home, if by bus or with a rental.

Three weeks ago, Weldon put up his famous aged eggnog and put it down in the cold cellar of Healers Hall to age. Today, we both climbed the old spiral iron staircase down to the cold cellar (3rd and lowest level, in the permafrost) only to discover the barrel empty. I was aghast, but Welly laughed it off. “I make four barrels, and I let the cooking staff think they’ve discovered it. It’s a game I play with them, the reward is they get to think they’ve sneaked off with some truly fine nog, that is every bit worth a small hangover..I get to enjoy their little intrigues… no worries.”

He took me to a secret room behind the water supply where three ice-cold covered barrels sat, filled with creamy eggnog, it was finally time to test it to see if it had aged properly.

Weldons recipe had dairy cream, half and half, whole milk, chicken eggs, cane sugar, Poppy Wheezles famous brandy, bourbon whisky, and cane rum and fresh ground nutmeg. It’s roughly 20% alcohol, so it’s completely food safe. The aging simply allows for all the flavors to blend and mellow. But after two cups it’s time to fasten down the lid on the barrel and head back up topside, which we accomplished with much giggling, smooching, and general fooling around. Needless to say, but I could drink that nog every day of Yule, it’s that good.
