I live in Kings Beach, at Lake Tahoe. Used to be a sleepy little town most of the year, with a massive influx of vacationers every Summer, but since they eased up the building moratoriums, the place is getting crowded. Sad. Sidewalks, streetlights, and overall gentrification has ruined almost everything I loved about the place. I still have my little slice of wilderness though, and the black bear sows still nurse their cubs in my yard, so I'm not going anywhere anytime soon.

: My Author, Mark and his mate have four cats (we don't get along very well when I go to visit...) Noodles, Nugget, Polly and Stanley. As far as cats go, they are very well behaved. They are all rescues. Noodles rescued himself unto them as a little feral kitten several years ago. He simply showed up at their back porch and meowed. After a week of feeding him and earning his trust, he was allowed inside. I don't have "pets" as I am a free creature and I believe that no free creature should "own" another free creature. On Subeta, I don't have "pets" even though this is technically a "pet-site". All my Subeta animals are family and have been certified as Free Creatures by both the Subeta High Council and the Revolutionary Parliament of Atebus.

: My Author spent a lot of time as a youth at Lake Tahoe with his parents. There were yearly trips during the summer to the family cabin in Bijou, camping at Wright's Lake, Fallen Leaf, Emerald Bay or D.L. Bliss State Parks, launching the boat from Homewood and fishing on the lake or in the smaller lakes nearby. They snow-skied at Squaw Valley, Incline, Heavenly Valley, Sierra Ski Ranch (I'm sure all these places have new names now). He and Francine eloped and were married in Zepher Cove at the Wedding Chapel in 1977. They ate at Harvey's Top of the Wheel Tiki room before it was bombed. And yet, I've never been there. I think that there is some sort of weather inversion between Lake Tahoe and where I live that causes our weather to be hotter and makes Lake Tahoe much more pleasurable. Maybe it's the altitude.

I love the bear picture! There is a small tribe of brown bears in our watershed. Their alpha male is named Lord Pussy-Paws. Don't laugh! It's all true, I'm not making any of this stuff up. Pussy Paws is an indigenous low-growing plant with powerful medicinal powers to cure headache and pain and he was given that name by his mother because his twin sister was such a pain in the...well...she was a lot of trouble.

Ha ha! None of those names have changed. Though people are pushing to have Squaw Valley re-named to Olympic Valley to not be so offensive to the Washoe people, whose land it originally was. (Washoe Valley is already taken.) Change like that seems really slow to come about up here, so we'll see if it ever happens. Up until just this last year you could buy a home at the corner of Coon and Cutthroat in Kings Beach. Now it's Racoon street, but "Lahontan Cutthroat Trout" is too long to fit on a sign I guess 'cause it hasn't changed. Interestingly Wright's lake road is one of a very few roads still open to motor vehicles in the Desolation Wilderness, and the campground there is more popular than ever! I am quite familiar with pussy paws (Calyptridium umbellatum) they grow crazy wild in the dryer parts of my yard. Combined with the bark from the red willow that also grows profusely here, they do indeed make a wonderful pain reliving tea. I also like to sprinkle their seeds on my breakfast muffins instead of poppy seeds. On a side note. I spotted the link you put up, and am now watching you on DA ( but not in a stalky way :D )
