It really feels like Netdragon/JS realized they can't keep getting money from Neopets users without actually fixing the site, so they found another community willing to blow a ridiculous amount of money on pixels to market themselves to. And even better for them because it takes 0 effort to randomly generate Neopets NFTs. Pathetic. Also idk why people are surprised about the transphobia and racism from the Metaverse team, the Neo team itself has had very questionable morals for a long time. They literally just made it okay to talk about gender identity and sexual orientation & TNT seems to be fine with transphobes and racists posting on the boards to this day.

Dinic: even though we never played it that much, I loved Neopets because of the worldbuilding and pets themselves and didn't really like the gameplay or site layout at all, so even though I was never that tied for the site this still feels kind of weird to see a petsite fall into nfts. Our system actually joked about petsite nfts among ourselves before because it would be ridiculous, so it feels kind of like the apollo gift of prophecy meme.

I'm not really surprised about the racism and lgbt+phobia surrounding management tbh, it took them so long to unblock lgbt+ terms. Some of the community when we were on there struck me as the types to turn a blind eye away from bigotry or generally being mean if it wasn't affecting them personally. It's kind of funny I remember during the Marapets drama last year (if it's okay for me to mention it) people were citing Neopets as a non-racist and non-homophobic petsite to play, which even back them I was confused with since the site has a history of homophobia and unbanning the use of lgbt+ terms never felt much like a step towards acceptance with them and our "red flag" detector works a lot better than we though I guess.

I kind of wonder how many people are like me and want to focus more on the pets and world, a lot of my friends seem similar (albeit maybe biased because we mostly hang out with other otherkin/systems). I'd kind of like to keep making Neopets characters and come up with our own stories and even though we never played the game that much the toys we had will always be nostalgic for us.

The ongoing Neopets NFT situation is so discouraging. I'm a long-time Neopets player who's still somewhat active on the site but I can't say I'm presently that attached to it outside of the fact that I have friends there whom I have no way to communicate with elsewhere.

The bigotry associated with the NFT partnership is the most depressing aspect of it imo. Just taints all of Neo's previous (and late-coming) efforts to be more inclusive.

I saw the NFT new a few days ago and went back to check out the site after not playing for over 10 years. Honestly, JumpStart trying to make some money by pivoting into the space doesn't really bother me too much if the profits are used to improve the existing website and user experience because it is an absolute mess. I have serious doubts if they have good intentions though, especially with the type of people they allowed to run the Metaverse project.

I tried playing for a few days but a combination of the broken website and bigotry coming out of the Metaverse team is the reason I wound up checking out Subeta again.

the thing is tho, there are sooo many more ways they could make money off of the existing playerbase. they've hyped us up so much over being able to have unconverted pets again and to purchase new pet slots, why not focus on releasing those (which would be purchased using neocash)? they seemed to be doing okay for a while putting out more and more merch, but that trend disappeared pretty quickly once NFTs were on the table. oh and there's the fact that they already have a failed crypto venture under their belts 🙃 sorry, i didn't mean to unload all this on you lol but i am just sooo insulted by the whole NFT/neopets situation ugh

I'm mad at it. If the site had to go up in flames, at least have it be something fun, funny or nostalgic, not this NFT bs that nobody asked for.

I loved Neopets but after they changed the site so drastically and got rid of most of the good games, I gave up on it.

The team is certain that the extra pet slots will be coming during the Holiday Season. Not holding my breath, but when that does happen I'll buy a pet slot(s) and then cancel my premium. Too much time and money I have spent and I'm too attached to llamallama10001 to 100% leave the site.

Unfortunately, NFTs looks to be a permanent feature, which makes no sense to me but I also do not trust cryptocurrency either.

the NFT thing sucks big time, but it does seem TNT has no control over what their parent company decides to do/partner with, so...I'm just hoping it fails on its own.

as someone who just came back to subeta after 19 years of almost exclusively playing neo, this thread has been pretty cathartic. most of the developments on neo over the past few years have been... offputting to say the least, even with low expectations. an earlier post that mentioned loving old pet sites means learning to tolerate a lot really hit the nail on the head, and i'd put up with a ton for neo, but when the NFT project got announced that was potentially my breaking point for a variety of reasons -- and then the rampant bigotry and lackluster apologies made it my breaking point. the metaverse nonsense and following statement not only soured what little joy i'd been taking in finally being able to be myself onsite, but also highlighted so many long-standing unaddressed issues (or issues that were addressed too late, not addressed very well, etc) and ultimately broke my will to stay on the site at all. i've taken hiatuses before, but this is the first time in nearly two decades i've ever proper left the site, and despite how unhappy i am about it it'll probably stick.

and this is exactly why i've been unhappy! i would've been fine with seeing the site go quietly or hilariously in general; it's an old site, and though i was (and am) super attached to my pets and their characters, it would've been understandable. but this? man. the overwhelming volume of outrage and upset from the users coupled with almost all of it being ignored or punished and ultimately ending in a lot of those users leaving is just straight up heartbreaking on some level, especially given that i'd been there for so long that a lot of those users were people i knew and/or grew up with in a way. to see something this awful be what at least damages the site and drives away a lot of its core userbase, if not takes the site down altogether long-term, is one of the worst ways to see it go.

this turned into a little bit of a vent, but it's just sad to watch this happen to something that was there throughout so much of my life. ultimately though, although neo will always hold a special place in my heart, i've definitely been enjoying being back to subeta a lot more thus far. i honestly wish i'd stuck with it way back when or came back earlier, but it is what it is.

I've ranted before, not in this thread but elsewhere, about my sentiment with Neopets, and how much crap I've witnessed and had to put up with on that site, from the negligent, art-thieving, questionable and useless staff, to the enabling and idiosyncratic moderators, to the horrendous support team that would get fired on the spot anywhere else, without even counting the user experience, and having to deal with the worst kinds of people on the boards because the moderators refuse to do their jobs properly, I mean both just petty and mean bullies and manchildren of all flavors, but also I mean criminally and morally the worst, and so, so, so much bigotry, I mean, even after the whole lifting of the LGBT+ ban on site (which was only brought upon because people complained to the online competition Neopets was running in and claiming to be inclusive that the site is far from anything inclusive and in fact will freeze you for talking about anything LGBT+, and so it took getting Neopets disqualified from that to get them to, finally in 2020, let us talk about LGBT+ topics!!), we still would get extremely transphobic users saying all sorts of horrible stuff to people and the mods take HOURS to deal with it... And all of that meanwhile on a site that is literally falling apart, had 7 years to be updated and barely has anything done and is basically impossible to navigate with its not-even-half-finished transition (but yet they keep on cranking out NC Mall stuff), and also having bootlickers claim that you should keel over and give more money to the site despite all the disrespect and disregard Jumpstart has for its userbase, else you are bullying the poor uwu staff and you're a horrible troll who's only there for drama.

And then the NFT stuff was confirmed, and that was the last straw for me. I shut down my accounts and left for here, and other places. But yet, I mean, I just keep on hearing more and more news, the development of this whole NFT shindig, and it's just.... The fake maraschino cherry on top of the poop sundae.... It is also the gift that keeps on giving, unfortunately, as the story develops, it only becomes more and more apparent how skeevy this whole thing is, and basically how this is I guess NetDragon's or Jumpstart's hope for a quick cash grab, at the cost of the Neopets IP and the userbase... I mean, it doesn't help that even before TNT officially announced the whole shenanigans as true, there were astroturfers on the boards, hacking into accounts to try to push their propaganda that this is "the best thing that has happened to Neopets ever" and lying through their teeth about everything. I debated with some of them, bringing up legit arguments, and going through the trouble of doing so much research to have data to argue back, and they literally talk in circular arguments and evade your questions and accusations, and will try 1001 tricks to try to win the argument and make you look like a fool, including bullying you on side accounts... This is all so, so ugly, and plus all the horrendous behavior their company has had in their Discord server has only been extra toppings to this poop sundae...

Honestly, if it weren't for the fact I have OCs and stories I've worked on for years, some of my characters being over a decade old, I would have literally decided to deny that I would have ever involved myself in that disgrace of a site, because if I knew this is how Neopets would go up in flames, I'd not have spent more than half of my life in it. I am not only done with that site and the irresponsible company that is Jumpstart, I am legit embarrassed this was ever an interest I ever had.

I think we can take some solace in the fact that NFTs seem to be, at least so far, a bust. I don't think they'll last.

Lucky for me despite having an account on Neo since 2005 I've never got deeply attached to any of my pets there so I tended to play it very off and on for the last 16 years. I did regain a little interest a while back hearing the site was finally going to modernized but ya know... instead the site turned into a broken mess and after the NFT stuff hit I've just about given up on the brand. At this point I wish fans could just crowdfund and buy the Neopets' IP because its clear the parent company is only interested in milking what little fandom is left with complete disregard for maintaining what brought those individuals to the site in the first place.

It's saddening to see a site that brought so much fun to so many people go down the drain like this.

Not that it was too far from the drain, given it has been owned by Viacom (with questionable practices and all) for most of its existence, but at least it was fun. :(

The sheer State of Neo is just getting more and more depressing.

For anyone who isn't aware, Neo suffered (another) serious data breach about a week ago.

According to BleepingComputer, about 69 million users are affected. The hacker claims that data stolen includes names, birthdays, email addresses, and other things you really wouldn't want being shared with people over the internet.

The list is going for four bitcoins. If there's any consolation, it's that Neo has been compromised so many times that the cost might be too high.

If you use your Neo password elsewhere, please change it - especially if it's tied to important stuff like banking!

The breach is still unresolved. If you don't have a reason to visit Neopets, I'd recommend you stay off the site untli things are resolved.

This likely just nailed their coffin shut. It was bad enough the things they made hard to achieve and made it impossible to keep some pets in UC among other things stacking up over time. Reading everything I'm glad I haven't used the site in ages.
