: : : I was just a brat growing up. Well, not really, just the last child from a very large family. My mother and father were quite old when they had me, I was their little surprise. My mother tried so hard to make me into a "Proper Von Steuben" and I resisted every effort. My father spoiled me rotten and always called me "Freddie" ( to annoy my mother, I think). She would make me sit for tea parties, Daddy would sneak me down to the creek to go fishing...I really had a great childhood.

I was born, have lived and will most likely die in Glen Meadow California, in the upper foothills of the Central Sierra Nevada in California. I won't complain, it's beautiful when it's not hot, or freezing or dusty or laden with pollen... (LOL)

Sounds like you were your Dad's buddy and partner in crime.

I have one friends it can be weeks between visits, we get together its like one of us left the room for just a moment and came back in the room.

- my lil sister was the last in line of a lot of kids, and she really was spoiled. She is such a fine lady now tho, so it all worked out....LOL

- yes! That is the type of friendship that just seems to keep on going. I love it!

: Daddy was a lot of fun and yes, we got into a lot of mischief together, mostly from my Mommy. She was concerned that I was raised and educated properly, he just wanted to enjoy his pension years from the Carpenter's Guild and brought me along. Fishing, hiking, looking for tourmalines and citrines down by the creek, sneaking down to the Burrow Inn for some cheese blintzes, an ale, (youngsters were allowed a half pint of kvass if we were with our parents) and a couple hundred games of checkers with the other pensioners. What an education that was for a wee weasel-child!

Oh Boy you had an amazing loving childhood! My friend was married to a guy from Lebanon, so we understood each others husbands' traditions and culture. Never had to explain situations it was just you know the deal. Once someone asked, if we were sisters. I said, not by blood but by the heart. My friend was so touched, I had given that answer.

Those are the best types of friends. That bond is so strong, and something that humbles you for how special it is.

Exactly, I am humbled by our sistership. Friends like that dont come along every day. She is one of 2 long friendships I have, my 3rd grade friend, became a cousin though my older sister's marriage. I am 58 years old, so you now that is most my life. Oh so sweet (picture), brings tears to my eyes. I can appreciate your special bond with your Dad, I didnt have that.

- yes! A little town called Subeta...Subetaville? :) My dear friend in Nebraska is like you and your sister of the heart. We can go a few years without seeing each other then when we are together it is comfortable like no time has passed.
