That was how it used to be when you could work 40 hours a week and pay for a house and your university education (if you even wanted one, not at all required to move up in a company and make boatloads of money) without going broke. They got more conservative because they had plenty of money and owned property (possibly more than one home + boats etc) and it was "fiscally" responsible to become more conservative. But they shut all that down behind them as they aged and pushed the rest of us to become more liberal/socialist.
