Yes, but it didn't work well for us. We wanted pick-up, which they won't do. And I also go with someone else that shops for their house, I shop for mine and my grandmas houses. So it's not just me shopping for my household.
They're massive. I was looking at cookie recipes and found a crazy one for these Italian cookies that came from my family and it was like...you need 50 lbs of flour and shit and I was like...WHO CAN EVEN MIX THIS?? I'm not even sure the industrial mixers could do it. I'm pretty sure that's a trashcan and broom stirring situation haha. BUT ALSO WHY DOES MY FAMILY HAVE SUCH A MASSIVE RECIPE??? Who even could eat all the cookies it would make??? (It wasn't 50 lbs but it was...a lot. It was pounds and pounds and pounds of flour and butter and sugar. - I'll find it and show you haha). And thank you! I am excite ❤️
How're you doing today?
I wonder if the recipe was for a wedding dessert. HUGE recipes like that from back in the day were usually for big shindigs. Or someone in your family worked in a bakery. Thank YOU for buying ! ❤️
I have no idea, it's just in the compiled recipes that have been passed down.
Italian Chocolate Cookies Recipe
2 lbs sugar
4 lbs flour
5 T baking powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp cloves
10 T cocoa
3/4 lb melted butter
Separately (these ingredients only appear in the instructions and not even in the list): 3 T Vanilla 1 lb ground raisins 3 C water, warmed up
Preheat oven to 350 F. Mix together dry ingredients, add to melted butter. Add vanilla, ground raisins, and water to the dry ingredients. Kneed dough. Roll into balls and bake.
THERE ISN'T EVEN AN INSTRUCTION FOR HOW LONG TO BAKE IT! This is the dumbest recipe haha.
I'm fairly certain it is the Italian Wedding Cakes (cookie) recipe honestly. Like the Mexican Tea Cakes but slightly different.
Italian wedding cookies have ground almonds (Mexican wedding cookies have either pecan or walnut, depending on a few factors). But are pretty identical otherwise. But yeah, that was my first thought when you said it, but the cocoa and no almond meal/flour ? And cloves and raisins aren't usually in them. I mean, it very well could be a variant or an older version, or more localized traditional recipe. Whatever is the case, that's some form of a celebratory dessert.
that does make it more complicated.
doing okay except for pulling my surgery leg again today. You?
;) Got any projects to do to pass time ? Or is it one of those 'I'm bored but don't want to do anything' moments ?
the later. I found something to do finally and motivation to actually do it LOL.
Oh I know! I'm like..it's...almost a wedding cookie but then not quite. I don't get it. I'm so confused by the recipe. And also the lack of a baking time. And the lack of telling me how many it's supposed to make. How big should the balls be? 1", 2", the size of my face??? Like...whatever recipe this is, it had to be all the nonna's teaching the kids so they just knew all the extra bits. This write down was someone doing it from memory while not actually making it and forgetting some of the essential info. Unfortunately I never met my great-great-nonna or my great-aunts and great-uncles back east (the Italian ones) so I didn't learn how to make these from a source. And I know my grandma doesn't know because she don't bake haha.
Oh ouch :( I'm sorry. Hopefully it'll relax soon. I'm alright. Stressed but surviving.
Got a ping, gotta see if posting pushes the post.
ooh your ha is really cool. how'd you do the face?
stress seems rather abundant now doesn't it? -snugs-
