How about a couple of neon items? I think some neon shades would be good if we don't have them already. Something similar to the hypno shades from Splatoon 2?

A neon power suit would be nice as well!

Dear g-d, enough with the neon. More steam this year, less punk please. Some punk yes, people want it, but it should not push everything ELSE out of the shop.

I don't know if you have noticed this, but the way the holidays are trending, it's almost always the fantasy/historical costume items that seem to get dropped in favour of more punk and more neon and more present-day/1950s-2010s items.

Neugarten: no more nordic items, way more hippie shit.

Steamworks: slowly dropping away with the rich ballgowns and waistcoats and frock coats in favour of raver stuff. The plague doctors were basically industrial goth, do not want.

Survival: dropped the lolita/pinup stuff (and the last stand of the waistcoat, apparently) in favour of... bondage gear?

Last year's Keelhauliday: the blouses would look just as appropriate with office clothes as they do with piratical clothes, more so in some cases.

Look, I realise that there will be neon and leather because a lot of people like them, but please don't forget about your fantasy userbase.

If you're bored with Victoriana, consider Rococo/Revolutionary Era (Hamilton!!!!) or Baroque or Cavalier/Musketeer style outfits as an inspiration and also, it's not necessary to slap gears on everything for it to be steampunk. These would be new and fresh without being oppressively modern for those of us who like to rush gaily forward into the past sometimes!

There should never (again) be a Masquerade without at least one big effing ballgown.

many holiday's offerings have been changed over the years because their original theme has been deemed as totally been done both by users and staff. This has caused folks here in Suggestions to ask for expansions and variations and staff and artists have complied.

There's no reason that the old themes couldn't be further developed, but inspiration is needed. If there's something you'd like to see developed along those old themes that is new, it would help considerably if you gave some examples.

yup as says: Images, images images Also it might help if your requests didnt read as quite so angry. I don't know about you but I wouldn't want to do work for someone if they approached me quite like that.

That said Masq is getting quite close, and while it does happen the chance of getting any suggestions trough for this year are quite small now. Try to get some detailed suggestions in for vesnali.

Every time I bring up the erasure of the fantasy elements from Subeta holidays in news comments I get 4-20 hearts on those comments, so I really feel that the userbase as a whole is not well-represented in this neon-loving raver thread, possibly because a lot of users don't know it exists.

Nobody else says much on the news comments, and I think that's because the people who are getting what they want now are so rude to anyone who suggests that the old stuff wasn't all bad-- but I know that there's support for my ideas.

I've been complaining about this problem for over a year.

I'll look for some images or at least some references, but have you noticed that nobody is asking the neon-rave-disco crowd for lots of images? I mean maybe because that's the world we live in and everyone knows what that looks like, but it's still kinda glaring. I can link to some sites though.

I've mentioned Hamilton, and I've mentioned several historical periods that haven't been really touched and it's not hard to find those images, so please do not expect me to do what I'd do if I was commissioning CWs, because if I'm going to have to do that, I might as well go commission more CWs.

I also second 's suggestions. Particularly the Tudor stuff. I would love me some Tudor dresses.

Again, I will look for some pictures, but it's not any harder to google "The Tudors" and "The Six Wives of Henry VIII" than it is to google "vapourwave" or "hypnoshades from Splatoon II", is it?

IDK, yes, I know I sound frustrated, but if the staff are so bored with steampunk that they want to drop it entirely, they should invent another holiday like they did with Neugarten, and then at least they wouldn't be upsetting people who wander into the shops expecting one thing and find something that is not just different from what they expected, but in many ways diametrically opposed.

I'm surprised the Mr S Leather Shop hasn't brought more angry people into this thread tbh, but maybe they're waiting for next year's Survival thread :)

I wish I had more ideas for Vesnali but really I don't. I know Vesnali isn't Easter, but I don't have a really clear idea of what it actually IS, and aside from fairy stuff, it's never been one of the holidays the romance/fantasy/historical side of the userbase has found dependable before.

nobody is asking them for images, because their stuff hasn't been done by Subeta yet. There is lots of room for artist imagination on a mostly empty field.

As for me, I'm not asking you for images either. You can do or not do/anger or not anger and it's all the same to me. It was my opinion and experience on hanging out here in Suggestions where it matters that posts like yours are usually backed by some strong ideas from the poster and many of these ideas are pretty dang awesome but nobody thunk them before they posted them in. It is also my opinion and experience here that no matter what the subject images or descriptions in detail of what you want are much more likely to be invoked as instances on the site.

You could suggest baroque/victorian spring/summer fashion for vesnali for example, and there's plenty fantasywear to suggest with the ongoing fairy theme. For your wants you could maybe persuade the artists to lean less tinkerbell and more lady galadriel. Plenty nice examples that I think are your style and vaugely spring themed are also to be found in art nouveau or renaissance paintings. For the "hypnoshades from Splatoon II" The thing it might be more about the need for you to be far more specific so artists are far more clear on what you want. I have the feeling your ideas are maybe just a little to general. That is where the pictures come in, they are the perfect way to say "look, THIS is what I want"

However to address your point--most of the things I suggested have actually not been done by Subeta before, either, which is why it's frustrating when people say "all that stuff has been done to death".

Tudor fashion hasn't been done at all.

The Revolutionary War era was done once in a costume trunk and not particularly well.

The Rococo era hasn't been done, except for one lavender dress several years ago. I think there is a costume trunk that is supposed to represent it, but the "female" side of that costume trunk is nothing but underwear and accessories--there's an item called a "dress" in it but it's not an actual dress; in fact I've used it as a mini-dress on the rare occasions I do modern avatars.

It's almost like people think everything that happened in fashion between the fall of Rome and WWII is the same. I don't blame staff for being bored with what some people think steampunk is--there's only so many ways to stick gears on a corset--but you know, if we haven't even gotten to the point of acknowledging that corsets were traditionally worn underneath rather than instead of regular clothing prior to the 1990s, we can't really say we've exhausted traditional/historical/romantic clothing styles.

I do like the 1920s stuff we have been getting. It's a nice change.
