I didn't mind ads for like, washing machines or whatever it was before, but I really, really do not want ads on here that know my location.

Can you please keep us up-to-date on this issue as you investigate?

I feel compelled to point out that this is just how online advertising works. Whatever you're using is just an identifier that's being advertised at.

You may turn off your location, but your internet is still coming from somewhere and services some area and that is known. It's tailored advertising. So often "they" don't really know that it's you, specifically, or care exactly where you actually live, that info is just being filled in because that sort of thing works on some people and gets them to click with the bare minimum effort (things like: the makeup of your city (sex, age, race, education, amount made per household, etc.) and "they" can make a guess at what you might like, based on those stats.) -Your phone/computer has its own identifiers too, that can be used to advertise at you because you leave a trail of where that device has been as you use it, even with location, wifi, NFC, and bluetooth turned off. -Websites set cookies, which can be used to advertise at you, based on what you've looked at because maybe if you keep seeing that thing, you'll go back and buy it? -and other things too, but it's actually kind of interesting, as a whole, the way we're pressured to consume and tricked into buying. :P

There are things that you can do if you don't like being advertised at, like setting up a pihole and/or using adblocking software and/or browser on your platform of choice, whatever. Or, for subeta, just by using the css mentioned in the other thread to hide away the adverts so you don't have to look at all the gigantic, hot singles in your area. &, spoiler: we all get the same singles and they're most definitely NOT in our area, regardless of what the text says. haha.

And, to be clear, when I say these things, I DO NOT MEAN that there is anything ok with there being huge, annoying ads that are messing with your game play, but no one is purposefully choosing these ads to mess with the players who have to look at them. The whole point of this site existing is so you'll use it and the best adverts are the ones that are unobtrusive, but may still be clicked, so regular people don't feel compelled to do the first few solutions I mentioned and never see ads again.

ANYWAY. Hope they get this sorted out with whatever advertiser service subeta's using so you guys aren't having to deal with that, because it sounds super aggravating. :(

I didnt know that actually, it just kinda weirded me out cuz I dont really use my phone outside much and I really only use it for youtube nowadays, and I have paranoia about being tracked so I always have my location off so it kinda set me off? thanks for explaining it though, helps ease my worries a bit, I was sitting wondering when I turned in my GPS for the site to know my exact location. I have location nfc and bluetooth turned off so I was kinda like nani the fuck

it's weird tho bc the adverts that were pinning my town were about real estate and I dont look at stuff about that so iunno if that's tailored or if they're just throwing stuff at the wall to see what sticks.

I got my first GA month the other day, and I'd noticed a couple aggressive ads before that but haven't been here long enough to have known that's out of the ordinary. Particularly I was getting one for Girl From North County, it was just an animated top banner but it was taking priority over the site navigation dropdown menus that overlapped it, making them unclickable. Trying would send you to the movie's site. Very irritating.

when my maintenance GA runs out, i'll get a screenshot of the full-page ads for sure; they've made the site really frustrating on mobile for me. i've noticed they'll pop up only when you click on a link to leave the page you're on, and you have to x them out in the upper-right before it'll take you to where you've clicked. on mobile this sucks especially because you're pretty zoomed in (or at least i am), and the ads do not scale to take that into account. then at the very top of the page, a lil banner ad will slide down (over top of the other banner ad) and overlay the page as you scroll. there's the option to click an arrow to shrink it, though, but it's still mild to moderately intrusive.

still present the regular banner ads on the top & bottom, and a few boxes (i've never counted so i cannot be helpful atm with how many, sorry!) between news posts-- these are honestly fine by me, because they're pretty on par with other sites and aren't disruptive to what i'm doing in the slightest, since they're just embedded into the page and don't move or obscure anything.

This is why I just use adblock lol. I feel bad, but having ads enabled everywhere (I play several other petsites) slows down my PC so much I can't deal with them. I'd rather just buy CSC to support the site

I've noticed the crazy amount of ads as well, and they're still around now that my GA ran out.

On mobile Im getting full page, drop down, in between news posts, larger banners (bigger than the billboards) and the ads way at the bottom. Next time I'll screenshot as well

the bottom of the homepage has A LOT going on? there's also one more, regular, non-intrusive banner ad anchored at the very bottom - that one is present on every page & not pictured here. these are a little weird tho.

fullscreen ad when clicking away from the homepage - zoomed in (bc i can't read zoomed out) zoomed out; has to be closed in order to proceed, very hard to do it and navigate it when you're zoomed in to read the site

sometimes the banner up top doesn't cover the navigation links! but it looks not great. in this one the actual ad didn't load, just the container.

edit: i looked into it because it gave me bad vibes and i wanted to be wrong, but the 'my stepmom' comic advertised at the bottom is ABSOLUTELY about the sexual tension/attraction between stepmother & child 😬 it's not immediately or overtly graphic but it gets to the "point" real quick. ik there's a lot going on site-wise atm, but i figured y'all would super want to know about that one asap

I have a gold account but I'm getting ads. Super annoying on phone to have a video pop up to suck my data every page load. Ad is for Humaria, if that helps at all.

On iOS I tried a few free browers- Brave browser. All ads seemed to be blocked, however deleting cookies does not remove login cookies, so clearing your browser data will not log you out. God knows what else it's keeping despite you explicitly telling it delete it.

Duckduckgo browser. All ads seemed to be blocked, and deleting your web data seems to work. The button is conveniently located at the bottom of the screen. This might lead to you accidentally hitting it and starting over with a fresh tab if you're not careful.

Firefox Focus browser. All ads seemed to be blocked. Drop down menus don't work, and the forums would not load. I would not recommend this one.

Unrelated, but since the forums are typically dead and don't feel the need to make another thread, is everything centered for everyone else? Or is it just me?

Yeah, several things around the forums are now centered rather than aligned left. And news comments are also centered. Which makes them super frustrating to read. It's going to make any lengthy news post hard to read as well.

i thought something was different when I came back on just now after being offline for awhile! The thread posts look weird too, some being scrunched together and others aren't.

Back to on-topic, good work and everyone else! Hopefully the ads are eventually dealt with. The inappropriate ones don't surprise me, it was inevitable. But seeing all those ads clogging up the page is revolting. And especially more so if even GA users are not safe from ad bombardment too.
