Ahh, thanks so much for the cute tail as well as your participation prize! ^_^ I'm glad you share my amusement at platypus. xD
Hmm, my favourite book would have to be Rivers of London by Ben Aaronovitch. It's a combination of magic, crime (policing) and London, and so somehow fits in with a lot of my literary loves. ^^ (Other favourites include The Portable Door by Tom Holt - also full of adult magic, wacky humour, idiotic behaviour and general adventurous escapades!)
I'm an avid reader and have read so many books and have so many favorites that this question is so hard. How can I pick one book above others that were just as fantastic to read? I love books for the main reason that I can get away from things that happen in real life, it's my way of escaping reality. I can relate to characters in books or just fantasize about the characters lives. I really love the books from Terry Goodkind, the books in the laws of magic series. Whenever I read those books I don't even notice what happens around me anymore. So if I have to pick something it would be those series of books, just because they help me to 'escape' the most.
Thank you so much for the participation prize :)
oops tried to edit my previous post and this happened... Oh well, have a book cover pic.

My favorite book is The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I am entirely horrible at explaining plot-related things succinctly, but I have always loved magic and fantasy worlds and Rothfuss has such a fresh take on magic in this book. I love it. Also the journey of the main character, Kvothe, through his life in it's entirety is SO well written. The little bits of flashing to modern day of him telling the story doesn't feel forced or interrupting; it adds so much to the story itself.
If you enjoy fantasy, and especially if you love D&D, absolutely check it out!
Also thank you so so much for the gift! One item closer to wearing one of my fave HAs I've made! (I had borrowed the items previously.)
This question is so hard! But if I HAD to choose my favourite book of all time it would be The Stand by Stephen King. I’ve read it so many times I had to get a new copy because my original fell apart lol. I love the characters most of all, Stephen King is amazing at character development. The plot is so different from anything I’ve read before and it keeps me on the edge of my seat no matter how many times I read it.
Thanks for all the gifts by the way! You are amazing for doing this.
Also OMG YES. I had a hard time choosing between The Stand and The Name of the Wind!
I would disagree--I actually do enjoy highly cerebral books. Not all of them, but at least some. I find some of them quite enthralling :P
As for my favorite book, I would have to say The Giver by Lois Lowry. It's a rather easy read with a simple story, but it has a very powerful social commentary about being your own person and what the meaning of freedom and happiness actually is. It's a very interesting book that I would HIGHLY recommend everyone to read.
My favorite book is probably Lord of the Flies. Had to read it in high school and I was obsessed with the writing... the characters, the setting, the imagery.. And the 60s film is a grade-A adaptation. No idea why I became so obsessed with this book for at least a couple years after I first read it.
Thank you for my previous participation prize.
Oh man. I pretty much do nothing but read so this is a hard one! I think one that sparked my imagination was The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory. Once I read that one I had to read everything else she's written (The Queen's Fool comes a close second!) and it's a story I find fascinating.
Other books/book series I adore are Harry Potter, Dresden Files, Morganville Vampires, Vampire Academy, Bloodlines, The Secret Circle, The History Keepers, The Mortal Instruments.. I could go on!
I'm not sure which book is my favourite at the moment because I find it hard to compare them if I haven't (re)read them all recently, to be honest I haven't read and finished that many actual books in the last couple of years, for a large part whenever I find the spoons to read something I tend to reach for fanfic more often than picking up a published book nowadays..
the most recent fictional book I read was Good Omens I think, I loved it :) but idk if I could call it my favourite book.. weirdly most of the books I tend to hoard (and then not read) the last couple of years are often non fictional books about several special interests (a lot of books about impressionistic art/specific artists I like, some books about languages/cultures/countries I'm interested in, books about cats and other animal species if I can find any.. etc) one of those non-fictional books I did end up reading and finishing which was quite interesting was Through the Language Glass by Guy Deutscher btw :)
anyway getting back to the question: for a long time I used to answer it with the book Geography Club by Brent Hartinger (a book about a gay teen in high school which I stumbled upon at some point and then read and finished in a single day -which usually never happens with me- because I couldn't put it down) or that book's sequel The Order of the Poison Oak, but I think it's been too long since I read them to know for sure if they're still the ones I like "best"..
This is getting too long, so I think for now as the actual answer I'll go with Holes by Louis Sachar, because I once read the dutch translation of it in high school and already liked it a lot, and then a few years back I got reminded of it and bought the original english version and read that one and was kinda blown away all over again, it's just genuinely good and thought provoking (and actually has a pretty good movie version too that actually follows the book which is rare)
I'm going to say This is All: The Pillow Book of Cordelia Kenn by Aiden Chambers, because it's a pretty hefty book and I was engrossed the the protagonists story throughout. I initially borrowed it from the library then I decided I had to have a copy for myself, I don't usually buy books so this definitely means it's special to me!
- oh, I do like cerebral things too... but I'll still take an easy entertaining read instead most of the time. People who claim to only read/enjoy cerebral books are highly suspicious imho. Or just plain boring at least.

True enough! I do enjoy a good youth or juvenile fiction sometimes.
Some of my favorite books are probably the night runner series by Lynn Flewelling
Oh, this is a hard question. I'm a big Stephen King fan and really loved The Shining, 11/22/63, The Dead Zone, and the Dark Tower series was so good. I cried when I finished reading all the books.
I also loved Michael Crichton and his books, especially Jurassic Park and Timeline.
And finally, The Hunger Games series is probably my ultimate favorite. I even dressed up as Katniss for Halloween one year.

I love reading. I appreciate an author who is good with words and also strings along a fantastic storyline so that you think you are there, right in the story. However, mostly I read books for entertainment as I have highly cerebral jobs already. I really love the Outlander series by Diana Gabaldon because of the historic facts and medical insights and the Shopaholic series by Sophie Kinsella, it is so funny, you have to laugh loud when reading! And I love Margret Mitchell s wonderful way with words, so sad she was only able to write one book, Gone with the Wind.

One of my favorite books that I mentioned before was Ghost Story by Peter Straub. I read this a good while ago. I loved the mystery, suspense, and horror in the story. It had more characters and better character and plot development unlike the so-called film that came out in the early '80s. In fact, it even left out interesting characters like Dr. Rabbitfoot. It also explains who mysterious man and kid really are, and why they're trying to help Anna Mobley.
Like a good neighbor, stay over there!

My favorite book is"The Little Prince"
It poignantly shows us belief,,hope,,shame,, faith,,greed. dedication,,devotion,, and so much more in a simple thoughtful bit of entertainment at any age .
my favorite that comes from the book which i tell over n over are:
.
~.~Please sir draw me a sheep..( and the box with holes in it..has the sheep inside) You become forever responsible for that which we have tamed...
one must trust that the sheep is in there as he couldnt draw a sheep...It is only in the heart that one can see rightly what is essential is invisible to the eye..

I know I am late to the party but since everyone is mentioning books I will tell you one of my favorites. My first favorite book is Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman which helped me get out of an very dark time in my early twenties while going to an community college that sucked. I will not tell you any spoilers but I liked all the mythology from specific eras entwined in the story and how it turned Modern day London into a fantasy mixed with dark comedy, and horror. It also had a very important theme that sometimes what you think you may want may not really be what you thought it was which for me at the time resonated with me because I thought that getting a college degree was going to be the fastest way to success and that I would be a lot happier which turned out I was more miserable than I was before. Very good book and would recommend it!!
And... round 11 is over!
Since Fahrenheit 451 is also my favorite book... is the winner. prize :
