One of the kiddos I tutor has been working on an animal guessing game for school and chose the platypus. Such a silly animal. x)
When descriptions, drawings and even live specimens of platypus were first taken back to Europe for study by British scientists many believed the animal was a hoax, a beaver's body sewn together with a duck's bill as some sort of joke link
The Asian Tiger snake Rhabdophis igrinus is the only known snake that is both venomous and poisonous.
There are over 200 species of woodpecker, the largest up to 58cm long and the smallest 7.5m. They use their tongue to extract bugs from trees and when not in use it is wrapped around the back of their head, between the skull and skin.

Whales have catchy songs.
All whales in a pack usually sing the same song that only gradually changes over time. Occasionally though, they might come across another pack of whales, take a liking to the new song and start singing it amongst themselves too.
Apparently there's a whale population west of Australia that seem to be the orginal artists for several hit songs that the populations on the east coast love to copy

Cats make a sound called chuffing which is a non-threatening vocalization, by keeping mouth close and blowing through their nose... It sounds kind of like a purr coming out in short bursts through the nose. It's most seen in captive big cats like tigers who do it to greet human keepers in a positive way.
