Ooh I see, I misunderstood! Well, I was hoping for more of a discussion about impacts and possible implementation, rather than just a "support or no support" thread. I like the idea of trying to hammer out the details before it gets put to a vote, so to speak, on the public suggestions forum, and I chose to pose here in the CW Creators board because I feel like most of us are deeply entrenched in the market and the process of creating/submitting CWs, so we'd have more informed opinions.
I definitely agree that a discussion rather than "yay or neigh" is good! Hopefully we do get a few more people in with their opinions soon too, I feel like having a ton of people would be a better power house for hammering out all the issues and stuff x'D TY for your response.
I hope so too! If you (or anyone reading this message) has any idea of other people to ping, I'd be happy for any newcomers!
I honestly seeing us come together and try to figure out how to make CWs better. XD I'd post a new thread in here for us every week if I could. ;) We've got a cool community for sure.
That's understandable! I think it's good to hammer out the firmer idea before taking it to the suggestions forums for sure, but once it's solid I definitely think making a new thread there would help get more feedback from folks who haven't submitted cws but are buyers or interested in becoming buyers in the right circumstances :)
@ Reaper Definitely!! I was really hoping to gain a little more traction here, but I don't know how often often creators or staff check this forum. D: Do you know anyone that might be interested in a ping?
[edit] @ maskros @ muerte @ Violin @ Stakely @ Bastit @ Bondage @ Malachi @ hell @ Akita @ BAT
I apologize for not pinging you all sooner, I finally had the idea to go through some NewCW posts to find other artists that have done body mods! I think some of you may have only done animal poses, but I thought you might be interested in this conversation nonetheless.
To bring you up to speed, I'm proposing that body mods be made into transformable items, where multiple skintones could be submitted for each mod, to make up for the limitations in posing that body mods currently have and to offer a diverse range of skintones to CW buyers. There's already been a lot of great discussion in this thread, so if you have time/inclination, you're welcome to skim through it. This is not intended to be a solely "support/no support" thread, but rather a place where people that are familiar with and invested in the CW market can discuss the potential impact to both yourself as an artist AND the cw market as a whole, challenges, and how this process might work. So any ideas/thoughts are very welcome!
Some suggestions so far: --Make transformable body mods into their own category, at a slightly higher price to account for all the "recolors" - perhaps 3000 CSC instead of the current 2500 for body mods --Default color + additional skintones submitted at the original time of submission --Transformable CWS should not have a separate CI for each skintone recolor, but will have a different colored star or other symbol denoting this item is both a CW and transformable, to prevent buyer confusion
Some challenges: --artists may need to raise commission prices to account for the extra time needed for skintone recolors --which in turn, along with a higher submission price, may cause releasers to need an increased slot price --potential coding challenges -the submission processes might be longer/more arduous --possible desire for non-standard (ie. not within the 10 "natural" base skintones) may be desired --this discussion may be moot entirely, because it's possible the new wardrobe may fix this issue in the future
I look forward to hearing your thoughts! I think transformable CWs could really open up a door for more creative body mods, while also allowing for much greater inclusivity. ^_^
I've brought this up with staff a few times in the past. And had it explained a bit to me without great detail at least one of those times (by Amber, who I think is the only one that makes things transformable but Ariel may also ???). I've also brought it up with a few CW releasers on why it probably won't be happening, but anyhooow. As much as I'd like this to be a thing I don't see it happening. It's not as simple as "upload items, staff clicks a button, and there we have it transformable items. Simple." The wardrobe being redone won't do it. It's a whole process in the back end, which is why sometimes when things are released they aren't immediately transformable. I also know of a line of things that were supposed to be made transformable but haven't just yet and part of that reason is the process of making them transformable... This may or may not get me into trouble oop. It's not the ONLY reason but it's a headache to just make things transformable.
Thank you for the insight. I'm often out of the loop on site/staff communication, so I apologize if this has been openly discussed before and I just missed it. Since there are various transformable items on site, it never occurred to me that transformable CWs would be particularly troublesome to introduce, though I'll admit that figuring out a multiple skin tone transformation system would probably be a bit different than what we currently have.
It's disappointing to hear, for sure, but I suppose we can hope for a solution someday.
Iunno if it's ever really been talked about publicly by staff.
You never know what may come, and Hades knows I'd use this option since I love doing limbs, but as it stands now I doubt it'll come to be soon-soon. Unless things were crammed and who wants that.
Just a heads up there is a board already like this in suggestions and ideas. [Topic=895747]
Thanks so much for the head's up! I thought you weren't allowed to necro posts more than 3 months old, but I just checked and at least in the Suggestions subforum, it's a range of 15 months. (wild!) I'm not sure whether to post or not, though...feels like this idea is a no-go. :/
Yup suggestions and ideas is 15 months which is the forum I moderate. Since this suggestion comes up every once in a while I figured I would just let you know. And just because something was denied two years ago doesn't mean things can't change. This forum is not as public but I feel the discussion has been really good so far. Shame we can't like combine boards.
Ooh, I see that now! Well, thank you for moderating and taking the time to let me know about this discussion on the public thread. I only posted here, privately, because I was hoping to spitball the process and potential challenges with other CW makers before posting publically, but now I'm glad I didn't create a new thread there!
I'll see what I can do about combining the points made here for a reply post to the Suggestions thread. Thanks for your input!
Whoops I'm sorry I haven't replied to this thread after receiving the ping (I thought I did but it must have slipped my mind with so much going on irl recently ;o;). Just drop in to say that I'm all for transformable CWs, though I have also thought about a few potential issues with how the releasers can choose how many bases to order from the artists. Can I please come back at a later date when I've been able to word my thoughts more cohesively? I'll be glad to join the discussion in the Suggestion board too whenever it's opened.
That's okay! I only pinged those I thought might have a dog in this fight, so to speak, but I don't want anyone to feel pressured to contribute. I'd love to read what you have to say if you have a moment to compose your thoughts.
i really like the idea of this for items that are like capes or even wigs that hang down over the shoulders for layering purposes? like this cw i released: i had the artist remove the section of the cape that would normally hang down between the legs so that it would be easy for people to layer. if i could transform this between the version with the in-between leg bit and without it (or even just hide certain layers of the item?), that would be AWESOME. when i wear these with shorts, it is kind of annoying that i can't have that part there.
