Hi there! I am Destiny and if you don't know me I am the co-minimod for the Problems and Bugs forums, but I am also kinda what has been called the Content and Community Manager. One of the things that I do is judge content for the Pet Spotlight. This means that I get to read stories, check profiles for coding errors and move a whole slew of nominations through our queues. When I started doing this and the win queue gained a good bit of pets waiting to win, we moved back to daily winners. This moved things through faster, but as it is a random system (and will not be easily moved from being random), there are still some that have to wait to win.
So here is my board asking you, the users, your ideas on ways to ease the win time for spotlight. You can also suggest other things that might help you enjoy this feature more. I can gather these together and speak with the admins and programmers to see what is a possible change and what could work. Bear in mind that although you are welcome to suggest things, not everything will be implemented or possible. I will try to make this as smooth as possible. Please don't ping me as I will be subscribed to this thread and will update when I can.
Ease Queue Size Suggestions
This will be used to keep track of suggestions on how to help with the size of the win queue.
Rule Update/Clarification Suggestions
Confused by a rule or think the wording needs an update? Let me know!
Denial Suggestions
We have preset denials that we can use but also can add in our own written denials. Have any of the presets confused you?
NONE YET
Make It Not So Random Suggestions
Random means that sometimes people don't win cause they have fewer pets in the queue.
Other/Miscellaneous Suggestions
Here is where all the suggestions go that do not fit anywhere else.
Suggestions that are not possible/will not be implemented
Here is where all the suggestions that have been mentioned but will not be implemented.

I promise I am reading through these guys! I will start putting some into the categories this weekend. I really do like the idea of putting up eligible pets for others to read :) that would really be neat and helpful for those who are more introverted or those who just don't talk on the forums.
In terms of the double winners, I wanted to ask a question. One user mentioned that they felt that if there was more than one winner in a day, that would take away from their win. Do you guys feel that way? Like lets say that the only way we can do double winners is to give out both at the same time, would this create a problem if a really good one wins and then one wins that not as many people like? I could imagine that a user would click on the comments and none are for their pet and they would be upset.

I wanted to address a few things at least!
My answers are below your bolded suggestions.
1.Display a counter under the trophy for the total number of nominations the pet received cumulative over all time (meaning if it wasn't accepted the first time, that first nomination still counts) as an integer only. No names. How this handles self-nominations is up to the staff. 2. Award the trophy as soon as pets win and give the owner a notification. Put the pet into a queue for a news feature as normal
Actually display the reason the pet won: It took me three days to learn "pet spotlight" wasn't just a really weird "random pet" feature, because the news post is just the pet's name and image.
Stricter rules on credit visibility: On some pets, I have to hunt for credit, or it's hidden under a button. One one occasion it was in an invisible div that was only visible on hover
This is not necessary as we only have a pet nominated once.
This is already the case. They get a trophy and an event that the pet won.
The spotlight has always been an overall spotlight. We don't have categories and the reason we link to instead of putting a summary is so that people will actually visit the pet and see the full profile. The reason categories will not work for us is that we don't have enough pets to do multiple categories.
While I understand this, sometimes the credit can clutter the profile. I (and any other judge) will always make sure that the credit is there, as that is part of our job. And they can't get nominated and then remove credit because then the pet goes to my re-review queue.
I know that doesn't address all the things but a lot of your suggestions are ones that were already brought up.

Just a quick update that I have gotten the go ahead to accept gender glitched pets so the various rules and FAQs will be reworded to make this clear once we figure out how to clearly say this! But you can go ahead and nominate those!

I can try and answer your questions! There are 3 queues--nominated, winning, re-review. If your pet is only nominated and you make changes then you just remain in the nominated queue. If you are in the winning queue and you change things, then it gets kicked to the re-review queue. You do not get kicked to re-review for adding TC items as it doesn't change coding--unless you have to change the TC coding due to adding items!
If you are rejected, you do get a sidebar event! And it will tell you what it is being rejected for and you will be able to work on that. If you have recent denials (aka denials after we added a history), you can see your denial history here.
Your pet is still in there (you can still see the nominated text on their profile) so hold tight!

Do you mean like maybe adding like a tagline on the news page when you win? That might be an interesting idea if there is a way to do that. Maybe since we have pet leashes it could be possible to enter a tagline for pets up for spotlight?
I will add that to the suggestions!

The pet wasn't problematic because it was about COVID, it was problematic because of how it handled that topic. If you're uncertain about whether something breaks site rules, you can always file a ticket for rule clarification.
Reminder to stay on-topic as this thread is for pet spotlight suggestions only. If you want to keep discussing your pet specifically, please move that convo elsewhere. Thank you.
