oof i LOVE this, all of the item images are visible and it's great!! it's all so smooth and sexy

+1: clear all button, palettes, shop search link, full salon catalogue!!!

suggestion: the skins, hair, and outfits can be a real page stretcher, but if they were in a container like the items that'd be pretty spiffy.

report: when i open the outfits tab/page, after they all load it rockets me all the way down to the bottom of the page/the first-made outfit? not sure that's the intended result klfdjg

i'm ur dad now, and i'm so proud of you

There's a bar across the top of that doesn't seem to do anything except have the link back to Subeta? And then there's the default top bar that looks like it might be a site theme bar? Unless you will be putting menu dropdowns like are present in the site as it runs now, this is wasted space on a page where space is premium. I wanted to tell you do add the Subeta time, and then I realized, no I really wan that vertical space for the rest of the wardrobe. But if you have real plans for this space, I don't want to tell you to chop it off.

tl:dr I REALLY want an "imperfect" color matching app!

Okay, I have more to say about imperfect color matching apps. The human brain, it doesn't actually SEE color. Color is an illusion. Your brain makes up what it thinks the color of the thing should be by depth cues and what the colors of the things around it are. Don't believe me? Look up how Technicolor works to create color out of black and white film.

I do have a point here. Why am I telling you this geeky trivia thing? Because clothing images on Subeta aren't random photographs where the viewer just happens to be seeing what the camera caught of the RL. Each image has colors and a palette carefully selected by the Artist to match and make sure that when another human brain looks at the item that that other viewer sees the color(s) that the Artist sees. What this means to me then is that if an item shows up as color-matching, even if that color it matches it is not perfect it not only doesn't matter it is a Good Thing. This color that did match was indeed a color in the image put deliberately there to make the main color of the image seem the color that it (for lack of a better word when talking about created-illusion) "is".

Many of the matched Items I had found that on the surface and isolated on the HA looked an entirely different color? They turned out to work perfectly well with everything else I was wearing, and emphasized the entire outfit. While they were not all super duper color matchy, they Looked Good. The Artist did the accent and accessory work for my ensemble, even if this was not their intention upon creation. As a profoundly lazy person, I love this.

[edit] is about to finalize the item directory entries for CWs. I would like the hover to either have a "this CW has done it's batches and you can't touch this" filter, or I would like Wardrobe V4 to have an excluder for no longer freely available CWs. I don't know which to request, because I dont' know what all-y'all are planning to do.

I really only use Subeta via a PC, so this is my perspective.

Thoughts by section Overall layout: They only beef I have is that in order to see both my current avatar and the item preview avatar together on the screen, I have to scroll down about a third into the header image.

Base section: I like the layout. The only bug I’ve come across is in the Mouth section. Clicking on the very first mouth option doesn’t generate a border around it. All the others do.

Items section: I love how crisp the images are now! I would like to see the filter dropdowns optimized for space a little better to move the items box up more. To see the whole inventory box, the avatar image gets cut off at the top. When showing All Items, I do like the border around those not in my wardrobe – It’s easy to see what I have & don’t, without having to hover over it. I like the Ascending/Descending toggle button, especially how it defaults to descending and STAYS. I hope the Clear Items link will be included again, along with a Search Shops? As far as the Drawers go, I’m cool with changing that to tags, especially if that means we can assign more than one tag to an item?

Skins section: Nothing to add here except they need names.

Hair section: Much cleaner to use this. However-- (am I missing this?) I can’t unselect a color box to hide the color selection window without clicking in another color box. Also, if I scroll down to the bottom to choose a style, click on it, the page stays down on the bottom.

Outfits section: It’s annoying that the page loads to bottom and stays there. Not sure I understand the purpose of showing all the items to the right of the avatar? Tags are cool. Can we pretty please have the option of over-saving a saved avatar? If I widen the window fully, I still see only 2 avatars per row. Also need to widen the window to about 90% of my screen to get the adjacent items to shift to 3 per row. Not sure what’s going on there. Tags seem to work. Deselecting a tag reloads the page to the bottom.

I have an idea concerning the search-by-color of items that may avoid the ‘driving you guys crazy’ bit. The goal is to be able to search for items of a similar color, but they don’t have to be a precise match, correct? It suspect this would be enough to narrow down the choices.

Color tag idea First, instead of choosing a 10-20 color palette.. There’s a system I use to help me with putting together my IRL wardrobe. It revolves around matching items according to 4 groups. Colors in each group naturally harmonize or “go together”: 1: Pure color (aka Hue, and this is all the colors) 2: Pure color plus a white wash (aka Tint) 3: Pure color plus a grey wash (aka Tone) 4: Pure color plus a black wash (aka Shade)

This webpage illustrates the groups really well: https://www.bigbeadlittlebead.com/guides_and_information/guide_to_using_colour_theory.php From outer ring to inner, it shows Pure, Tint, Tone, Shade.

What I’m thinking is using the 12 hues of a basic color wheel as one category of tags, combined with a second tag of one of those 4 groups. I think matching according to these by eyeball should be fairly quick. Less chance for errors and it doesn’t need to be precise. Maybe even having a swatch preview of hue + group combined before hitting that proverbial submit button? I’m pretty sure that the official items released at least as of late is consistent to these groups.

(As an aside, if you like the idea of the groups, setting such a standard would help the inter-usability of items regardless of when or who creates them.)

As for assigning the color tags.. I wonder if you can automate the process. – Can you extract color codes from the item images using a script? – Is there a logic to the codes, as in, can you specify a range of values from a section of the color code to assign to a hue and/or group? – Do scripts to do such tasks already exist? Because I seriously doubt I’m the first person to think of this. If this isn’t feasible, maybe there’s something else that can automate this task.

Wardrobe issues and wants:

Skins:

  • would love to see them in a box. Right now we have scroll down to see all of them and lose the preview. Scroll up to see how it looks, scroll back down to remove the skin. Alternately, bring back the remove skin button would help so we don't have to scroll down and look for the current skin.
  • Separate sections for skins I own vs skins I don't.
  • Separate sections for types of skins: zombie, zapper, earned.
  • LOVE: skin click on and off.

Base:

  • no eyes option
  • no mouth option
  • LOVE: can turn all base elements on and off for viewing.

Hair Salon:

  • can't seem to close the color picker box.
  • can't delete a highlight if I decide I don't want it.
  • LOVE: the basic color choices on the bottom of the box.
  • LOVE: that its more intuitive to activate the color picker.

Outfits:

  • really don't like the layout. Too few per row, too big with the item list.
  • takes forever to load, need pagination back
  • Many missing outfits - if there's going to be a limit imposed need a long lead time of warning for that.
  • defaults to the bottom of the list when loading, deleting, adding, etc. very annoying.
  • very slow to load or do anything. I keep getting a browser message asking me if I want to wait or continue because its slowing everything down.
  • LOVE tags. Though I would like the option of choosing AND or OR when I select multiple tags. Right now the default seems to be OR.

Items:

  • would prefer to be able to select 500 items to view at a time. 250 means way too many pages to sort through.
  • drawers/tags/some system
  • color picker
  • would like to see the item options area smaller, tighter, so that I can see all the items and the preview box without scrolling.
  • I know I'm in a minority, but I would prefer smaller item images.

Whole wardrobe: The avatar box is a problem throughout the wardrobe. Would it possible to make it floating so it stays with you while you scroll? That would eliminate a lot of the sizing issues.

gonna +1 something said "- would like to see the item options area smaller, tighter, so that I can see all the items and the preview box without scrolling. "

i'd really love for this page to fit mostly in one window with no scrolling. i know that not everyone does this, but i really have to zoom the entire site into 150% to be able to read the tiny font, so that means that everything not fitting into one view for everyone else is magnified (hah) for me, who needs everything a bit bigger. it's also a bit overwhelming to see that many items in one section of the scroll box, so making it a bit smaller would be really good for someone like me

hair salon: i think that this should be sorted with the unlocked hairs at the top and the default ones beneath, and maybe separated like that. it's hard to tell which ones are hair coupons i've redeemed and which ones are just the ones everyone gets

skins: would also like the skins you've unlocked to be at the top and the ones you havent unlocked after

outfits: not sure if this is the intended functionality, but when i clicked into the outfits tab, it took me to the bottom of the page by default, which... i dont like. would be better if it just kept you at the top of the page can we make these a bit smaller by putting the buttons beneath the HA and keeping the tags on the right? seems like a bunch of wasted space beneath the outfits if you have a million unique tags on a million unique outfits, will the tags just keep being added indefinitely? i can see this becoming a problem for people who like the feature (which is a really good idea and i like a lot). might be good to have a modal or something for you to select the tags you want to view, or an expand/collapse button if someone has too many tags

overall: the clear all items button is gone? would really love to see this back (i bet it's on the list of things that have to be done, but still) i like the ability to click anywhere into the item box to be able to rearrange the layers, and that seems like it's gone, too, and you have to click into the icon on the left of the item box. it's kind of tedious when it would be nice to be able to click anywhere on the item to move around

Outfits need to be paginated - nowhere near all of mine are loading, and if they did, the page would be way too long. Tagging outfits is brilliant! cant wait to use it.

Items -- Trying to view 'all items' is loading for now about 20 minutes... how long do you think it takes? Is it really trying to put every subeta wardrobe item into local store? Because I'm not sure my phone can handle that...

Edit: still loading, now 45 minutes. Should I assume it failed?

I haven't tried this yet--if I try it, am I switched over permanently? I have over 8000 items in my wardrobe and 45 pages of outfits, and if I switch permanently to a version without drawers or pagination, I am so. incredibly. freaking. hosed.

I love drawers, drawers are my life, before we were cut back to 50 I used to have 80 drawers and I had half the wardrobe then that I do now.

Tagging could be an improvement in that I could assign items to multiple tags.

Tagging outfits would be a dream come true in that I would be able to tag outfits by character, such as "Valiska", "Ford", "Mabel", "Wendy", "Lissa", "Ilisidi", "Dhara", "Callista", "Getheny", "Kelly" and so forth and then hopefully load only the outfits for that character if I wanted to. Plus I could also assign tags like "colovaria", "stimulate" and the like for contest entries and "don't own all" for contest entries I can't actually wear on site because I was required to use an item for the contest that I don't own.

I mentioned this to in the discussion on CW directory, but since items have both names and thumbnail images that have nothing to do with what they are, it'd be nice to be able to sort for things like "dress", "pants" and the like.

One of the main reasons I have so many drawers is my inability to remember which of the dresses in my 8000+ item wardrobe, with lots of CWs in it to boot, are on which layer--some are on body, some are on fullbody, some are on chest. I therefore have a "dress" drawer that I can look through and be sure that every item is actually a dress. Layers don't really mean anything since you can put items in any layering order, and trying to search for specific types of items by layer is a PITA.

Skirts are usually all on bottom but so are pants, shorts and underpants; and it's hard to wade through a zillion pages that are 3/4 items you're not looking for. The ability to identify "eye" items that are really eyes vs "eye" items that are just makeup would be amazeballs.

A protip for everyone who would like "no eyes", "no mouth" and "no whatever" options:

Drag your base layer to the top of the stack before you add items. Then none of those things will show. I use a base eye set for my main character so I use one of Seul's creamcakes to block out the eyebrows so I can change her brows with her expressions. (Dear G-d please don't update the base "dark" eyes as they don't have round pupils. It's so hard to find eyes with slitty looking pupils that are pretty and not oversized. 75% of my saved avatars and characters are not actually humans, they're felinoids.)

Finally got to playing around with the new wardrobe for a bit, so I figured I would throw in my two cents on the new layout.

Overall, I think the new layout looks nice and functions nice. There's a few issues/small annoyances that I ran into while playing around so I'll get to those shortly.

My first issue (as I'm sure other people have mentioned) is that the layout requires so much scrolling. The current wardrobe doesn't have this issue, so I feel like that would be nice to have implemented into this wardrobe. All the scrolling just kinda deters and annoys me? I shouldn't have to go like two miles (exaggerating I know) down the page just to see what my HA has on, lol.

I also feel like it's more helpful to have the preview next to your HA. It's hidden unless you scroll (which again I feel like is very unnecessary and is definitely something that should be fixed). I know it would require things to be tweaked a bit, but I feel like other things could be tweaked in terms of size and positioning and make this possible?

The "Your Outfits" page... I personally don't feel like this needed any change? I feel like having the items that the HA is wearing stretches out the page far more than it should. It's not that hard to simply wear the outfit and go and look (at least I don't think it is). Then again, I definitely don't mind a few more clicks if that means things look cleaner overall.

Also, dragging items around is a bit wonky for me. Say I drag the item at the top down, it highlights all the items underneath. Here's a screenshot of what I mean. If you click and unclick eye, it does the same thing as well. Not sure if this is just a Safari issue, but it's just a bit weird? There's also no "clear all" button which I found somewhat helpful (personally). But again, I'm not sure how often other people used it.

Another thing I find odd, when you click on something to wear it, the item image gets smaller and then it puts a border around it. Not sure if that's just something that needs to be smoothed out yet, but I figured I would point it out anyways.

Last but not least... the red borders around items that I don't have in my wardrobe/don't own... I loathe this. I absolutely loathe it. xD And I'm not trying to be mean when I say that (so please don't take it that way). Just visually, it's not appealing. I don't know about anyone else, but even though I have a lot in my wardrobe, I know pretty much what I have in there. And even then, it's not hard to copy and paste the item name and do a quick account search.

But yeah, overall, I think the new layout is great. I know there are a few small things that I kinda nit-picked but I figured I would toss in my opinion anyways. Thank you, as always, for always working hard to improve the site. I definitely think this is one of the best wardrobes yet and I look forward to seeing these changes implemented other places around the site as well. n_n

Pushing some fixes now... the outfits page was constantly refreshing the outfits which was uh, bad and maybe crashing your browser. That shouldn't happen now.

Right now it's limited to showing 100 outfits, I'm adding pagination back soon!

Thanks for all of the feedback, it's very appreciate ?

It's looking pretty cramped on my screen. The preview base is way too close to the main HA image, and the item box. Anything which takes up a lot of horizontal space (especially noticeable with most background items) on the preview is overlapping the main HA and item box either side.

Looks like it's caused by too many items on a row. In current wardrobe it's 8. V.4 displays 10 on a row. Can this please be adjusted to get rid of this overlap with the preview base?

A couple of things I've noticed is that:

  1. The preview HA and my current HA are too close together, and sometimes the item preview spills out of the box. I don't know if that's a screen size thing on my end though.

  2. I feel like light blue on blue isn't a nice choice for the pagination buttons for the items section. Part of it is that I don't like those colours necessarily, but I also cannot read what page number I'm on. The page that you're currently on is light blue, and the text is only slightly darker. I can infer it by looking on either side of the button, but it's just weird to have a button I can't read. It strikes as weird since the other blues buttons are white on blue, and that's so much easier to read.

  3. There is a lot of scrolling, but this just me repeating what others are saying.

And have you thought of how achievements will look on the wardrobe page?

I thought it was just me and my monitor, but yeah, I can't read those page buttons either.

If you have two instances of the Wardrobe open, they don't talk to each other even after you do something that should refresh. The reason I have a situation like this is because "Go back to Subeta" no longer opens a new tab like it used to. Rather that wait forever to load up all my items again (which is what happens if W4 is closed) if I want to tweak a minor change and then see what it looks like in a post or in my sidebar, I was hoping that a second copy would be able to catch up. Doesn't happen. This is not necessarily a problem that it does this, but I wish it didn't.

Ditto here on the overlapping/crowding of the preview avatar. It's the same for me in all of the sections. I also get overlapping on the outfits page, particularly with columns 2 & 3 of the outfits themselves.

Is this a window size issue? I don't know if this would help to tweak the design, but personally, I prefer my web browser windows to be about 80% of my screen width. After playing around with the window width, on the Items page, full width, I see 11 items per row; "normal" width, 9 items. (For me, 8 across would be perfectly fine.) On the Outfits page, I have a tag here and there, and I wonder if the font size of the tags themselves could be smaller? One tag widens the description box, and at "normal" window width, the outfit image overlaps that. On full width, they don't.

Perhaps this needs that 'adjust image size along with window size' trick added?

Viewport issue: Work will probably need to be done on how the CSS / layout changes when the width of the window changes. If I reduce the window not even that much in size, the item preview starts covering up the overall avatar preview:

screenshot

Skins: Avatar base is being removed when a skin is applied. Many skins depend on being overlays on the base, and don't replace it. Example:

Outfits: Only showing 50 for me (not 100). I can tag, but I can't figure out how to show only those tagged with a certain thing.

Right now in W4 my Base is not showing. After I remove all items I see eyes, nose, mouth, and pecs, but no Base. Chrome OS and Browser. Maybe it's working fine in Forums? I have been having some lag this AM so I will report back about that when my last posts resolve so I can see. Fixed. or was lag-related.

[edit] Base is showing fine in Outfits, sidebar and forums. Now my Eyes are not visible below my invisible Base and need to be moved up. They used to be.
