Another avatar contest would be pretty easy to do, right? And we should continue with CSC as prizes for these. CSC is hard for me to come by (and other users as well) so it would be a good incentive.

Agree with the game room update. We need more variety. Maybe more games based around NPCS?

I've considered creating a post for groups - listing what I think are useful groups, like token shop, bathhouse, siteupdate, etc, and adding a section for people's groups they want to advertise. A similar thing could be done for guides.

The main issue with these, and the reason I haven't started one, is because they do take time to administer and maintain. I wouldn't want to keep links to dead stuff - either because its owner is no longer on site or things have changed so much its no longer relevant. There nothing more discouraging to new users to find useful seeming stuff only to discover its no longer active or applicable.

Between my work at SubetaLodge and my own Posting group, I just don't have time to take on more projects (and I already have a couple other guides on the go that I'm desperately trying to find time to complete).

Oh, you work on Subetalodge? That's awesome!

Well, maybe making some tutorial Youtube videos might help? I made some (mainly for obtaining the newest species of pets) and put them in a playlist. I do have a ticket from staff defining what is permitted when doing so.

the user run plots are never as extensive as site-wide plots imo, a lot of the times the incentives are CW-based, like "do 3 events and you can slot on a CW," obvs they can't make their own items or participation prizes so a lot of times its like 'do the event to be entered for a raffle." so if you're the kind of person who likes plots prizes, they're more for socializing and having fun than anything else :') but yes, i think it's really cool that users take to running their own stuff, and a lot of the time they make really nice art and stuff for the events which is also awesome to see.

I think I&;d play more myself with little goals to do every day.
I set them for myself but a little graphic that follows what I&;m doing would keep my far more motivated than my own stupid brain haha.

I second this idea completely,
quests are nice but they can be done in 30mins.
Maybe dailies that are site wide?
"If 100 users donate a free beer to the food bank everyone gets an extra Pete quest"
"1000 users beat challenger then all users get one free training session"
I am not a coder so if this sounds impossible just ignore me but I love this idea!

Oh my gosh what a great idea!!! Have a little daily or weekly goal that's just always there and some days we make it and some we don't. I bet it would be like the achievement for going to an empty pawn shop, and have a community of users who are semi-dedicated to working towards the goal, and they become a little community. I'd love to participate in something like that.

It's been years since I was a newbie, so I'm not sure if this is still the case, but when I joined up I found the tutorial all but unusable. I know it's been pointed out since then and I know work's been done on it, but when a newbie went through the tutorial back then they would be directed to aspects of the site that were all but impossible to find.

Sarah's quests, for example, with a link in the tutorial. You'd go do a quest then it would take you back to the Explore page or something and I know I never found those quests again which frustrated the crap out of me.

Similarly, it directs you to the forums but then tells you that you can't post for a day, and many of the forum headers aren't that explanatory of all the things you want to know.

It's a bit easier now that there are icon navigations in each section of the world and a much more robust FAQ in general, but I'd love it if someone went over that tutorial with an eye to usability just to make sure that navigation isn't completely broken or that if you hit the back button, it takes you back to the tutorial and not just some random page, and that newbies get a genuine introduction to the site rather than "Here you are, have fun taking five days to figure out how to even get to a quest!"

Also, that necro rule for sure. Just a couple of months ago I downloaded a game that's been out for some years, got super excited about it, went to the games forum and posted on a thread that was maybe halfway down the first page only to get chided for necro'ing a thread (I didn't mean to). I haven't been back to the games forum since because I'm paranoid of accidentally necroing another thread even though I'd love to get chatty about games.

If a topic's still on the front page of a forum, I feel that should at the least be excused from the necro rule. The forums just aren't that active.

I like the goals idea, it's not like achievements, but really goals, like "you created your first pet!" "you earned your first 50k!" "you made your first HA", maybe with small prizes, sp, rsable wears and maybe boosters. So they learn about the site through the goals. In Smash Ultimate they did it and it's pretty fun and encouraging.

The forums are definitely something of a minefield. It's sad that the most active topics are ones like What Did You Get From The Galley? They're the safest ones if you're trying to get forum points or 100 posts for the Blue Building, though.

A suggestion topic just got locked with a direction to go to this other topic so staff can monitor interest better.

Makes sense.....but we'd be violating the necro rule. So, ah...express interest and get in trouble?

- I'm pretty sure threads in the suggestion forum are exempt from the necro rule.

(Which is actually its own issue, because a thread recently got locked for being a repeat suggestion after it got a lot of traction. People were directed to a much older thread with no posts, but everyone had already given their feedback on the now-locked thread so the old post stayed dead.)

So I understand this discussion has moved quite a bit in the last few weeks, but I'm just stumbling on it now. The no necro rule, for sure, could use some revision. Fixing the flash games wouldn't hurt, either. I loved those games, even though they gave out very little sP. When I didn't have much, they bumped me up real fast to an amount I could work with.

Seconding the goals idea as well. Plenty of sites do this now, from casual to professional and even e-commerce sites. It rewards the little things in such a way that it encourages behavior. Subeta doesn't have flashing lights or sounds, so it really needs to work with what it does have.

However, 5k sP is not an insulting amount. Very frequently I'm short 350 or so CSC for a CW, or Lumi comes around, and I spend all the way down to just having a couple hundred sP to my name. You really just have to hit random once, do a Sarah quest, and then you're good to do Wizard Quests. That will carry you up to enough sP to do all the rest of the quests, as long as you avoid the Library and probably Maleria.

For the record, I have never been able to finish Sarah's quests. She boots me out for being too rich halfway through, even when I started with the bare minimum to do a quest.

Some problems i think in the restock wars was not only inflation(mentioned,) but also connectivity issues. Some complained faster net = more points. Basically same with when we had auctions. Also, if people hoarded a certain item some would argue somehow it puts them ahead.

Game trophies... didn’t staff say they wanted to move away from those for some reason somewhere on a thread before?

I do like the be partnered with and sponsor a new user idea a lot! Maybe could be made to help with an sp sink like mentioned before. I’d also love if they made it somehow to pair up members who have been on the site for years as well. Maybe have them do activities together.

I also think subeta should have the new pet name thing. Maybe have a color dot to say this was original if created by the user and new pets with that name different colored dot(like mentioned on another thread.) We shouldn’t keep with “old subeta,” where if you missed a name it is gone forever if the user stays on the site. We need to look toward “future subeta.” Original owners should be flattered someone chose that name and interested in how that person will make it their own. Not cold and distant over, “first dibs.”

I wonder what more sp sinks there could be, any ideas?
