im tired so im just quickly bullet-pointing this:
increase SP upon sign-up a buddy system of sorts would be FANTASTIC actual guides for pet colors/how to obtain them/etc on site; don't make new users (or old haha) rely on subetalodge, if they even know about it in the first place absolutely remove necro rule & 24hr posting rule update rules & guidelines to this century instead of even getting into the idea of pet trading, maybe just freaking get rid of unique pet names (but that's Controversial™)
There are a lot of user made guides around. Also very useful and helpful groups. The problem always comes down to finding both.
I would love a page that directed to guides. Also a guide to forum groups. The Dailies page is good start. The new help page is also good. However the help page is just too long, it needs to be broken up into smaller, digestible bites.
Maybe a "Welcome/Newbie Page" - that would be mostly links to helpful stuff?

In RL I can get pretty salty so I too got eyerolled at like when I asked about acceptable words. It's not like the MPAA rating of PG-13 is in any way consistent or even sane.
Just letting you guys know - this topic is being read and discussed behind the scenes :) Thank you for all the great feedback and ideas <3

Was this through the ticket centre?
I had a pet name I wanted to use, but decided not to in case it was somehow too gory or violent (and not that the word itself was violent, just that it's context/meaning was a bit gory). If that was the response, I'm kind of glad I didn't bother asking.
A new set of quests like major drills that sets tasks all over the website for users to become familiar with all the little things you can do
sP and CSC gift for users who complete a set of new user tasks that are designed to have them explore the site
Subeta buddy system
More team events like restock wars to fill the spaces between holidays, and more team events that are part of holiday celebrations
One idea i liked for a team event would be hogwarts inspired houses (or something similar, but 2-4 teams), you can choose to stay in your team or be randomly assigned a new one every 3 months. Each 3 month period has a focus on doing certain tasks on the site for points. So say for example you can gain points from playing games, restocking, posting on forums etc. At the end of each period you are awarded prizes and sp based on how well your team does, with 1st place team getting the best prize obviously. The events that earn you points could also be tied to seasonal events. Something like this would be great for making friends and doing activities together to make the site feel like more of a community again.

I'm so glad to hear this! Thanks for all you do Bug (and other staff) <3

As mentioned here.. I think the buddy system is a great idea! I would be more active and honestly I would have more fun if there was a way to sign up to help new users. And if you don't want to up their starting sP amount then I have an idea for a new sP sink... Let us not only teach them how to use the site, but let us help them get started. I had a friend join a while back and I had a ton of fun showering her with some wearables because her avatar was naked.
So let us spend 100k to 'sponsor' a new user and connect us with them so we can help them and both show them how the site works and also how awesome this community is!
Personally when I'm around if I see a true newbie post on the welcomes board I like to send them a few cloths because I remember the first thing I got to cloth my avatar and that was huge when I was new. This would be a more personal way <3
I would like to add that this site is amazing, but it's so in depth that it can be daunting if you haven't been here for years. Either pair new users with willing sponsers that have been around for ~1 year+ or the site needs an extremely in depth tutorial (video would probably help) [When Subeta really stuck to me was back when Kieth was posting to youtube.. That made things so personal and helpful]
I love the idea of a buddy system. I think it would work best if it was opt in for the veteran buddy, and maybe it selects from users opted in and online within the past x number of hours. That way the new user would get a buddy who is active and willing to help. Or maybe it could even work like Mysterious Melody in terms of partnering up where both parties opt in and are paired with the next available person, except less mysterious?
I like the idea of more team events. When was the last time we had one? I can't exactly remember how this was done in the past since it's been a bit, but each team could be sponsered by an NPC (like the snowball fight!) with a specific team thread (and forum group?) created by that NPC.
I agree with a lot of the points on this thread, especially dropping the necro rules and increasing the sP for new users.
In an ideal world everything to do with Subeta should be on Subeta. If the staff don't have the time and resources to add it why not do the following?
Put a link to SubetaLodge in the Check Out section of the News page with a brief description of what SubetaLodge is used for.
Have a Search Subeta box which uses a search engine. (Please ignore the actual site in this example - I'm interested in comparative religion which includes Christianity and I find this a useful resource ) Search a site using a choice of search engines
The art commission section is a pain in particular with the necro/anti spam rules. Waiting for a topic to get to the third page when there are 5 active artists on the site? I have a thread from over a year ago that isn't on the third page yet.
I come back to Subeta mostly due to nostalgia, but with a busy life it's hard. I come more because I've spent so much time and effort, and less for the loyalty aspect.
No, it was on the forums. I went and checked and I didn't ask for a list directly on these topics. x-x My mistake, sorry.

Stock response of "fill a ticket and find out ;)" instead of... having it actually accessible so people know what to avoid. A newbie isn't going to know about the ticket center. A newbie isn't going to worry about avoiding "bad words". It's Subeta's job to moderate and filter these. And given that the filter was removed with no explanation, Subeta can at least tell people which words are "bad", or even block the words outright to avoid having people getting verbal warnings for something Subeta should have sorted in the first place.
The same issue persists with rules about pet graphics and buttons, mass creating-and-pounding of pets (against the rules btw!), intellectual property, parental permissions for users under 13, begging/asking for a person's pets, etc.
I appreciate the work that user admins do, but I really don't want to have to run to them for every little thing that the rules don't have listed. They're understaffed and have plenty of things on their plates as is.
oh my god yes plus the fact that threads need to be locked and past the third page in over to make a new one. I feel like a wiener because I have absolutely bothered UAs via tickets at least three times asking if I really need to have them lock a thread that hasn't been posted in for over a year and is on, like, page five. But yep. You do.

I agree about the bad words problem. This can be complicated by differences between American English and British English - a word that's OK in the US can be bad in the UK and vice versa.
What would be classed as too gory for Subeta? We've got clothing items that cover our HAs in blood or show organs falling out and a bloody hatchet which is buried in the HA's head etc etc. During Survival 2014 we could harvest each other's organs and we can now feed these human body parts to our pets.
Yep. And with automated filtering, you also run into the Scunthorpe problem. On the other hand, sometimes you need to outright tell people that maybe calling a pet DickWaffle 9000 isn't a great idea even if it is an inside joke among friends. [edit]Also, now that brain has kicked in... If it's up to the users to filter their own things based on what offends them, why are users getting warnings for these petnames? And why did "pansy" get changed? (No, I'm not mad about it being changed, I was the one who poked Ariel into changing it for Drills. I'm genuinely curious!)
The Scunthorpe problem article has some mind boggling examples. Automatic filtering could also cause problems with some item names (can't think of anything offhand but there must be some).
As for pet name rules, there could be one saying that names made up of slang words which are deliberately intended to refer to biology etc aren't permitted. If in doubt, send in a ticket with a link to where people can send in a ticket. This would allow genuine names like Dick Turpin, Dick Whittington and Dick Tracy (a famous fictional detective.)
I actually like the idea of starting new users off with a small, static amount of CSC. Give them something like 250 CSC with a gentle shove toward the cash shop where they can spend it. Then a new user can browse through and buy that really cool wig or a couple of cute accessories and think ok, this dressup game is pretty fun, maybe I should stick around for that.
Almost every game I've played that features a premium currency (which is to say, all of them as of 2019) will start players off with a small amount of said currency. Right now, CSC credit cards are prohibitively expensive when buying with SP, and most people new to a game don't cruise in with their credit cards out and ready to buy.
So let's just give em small amount of CSC with a bit of a blurb about this currency, here's what it does, and here are some of the ways you can obtain more if you so desire. It's very common to find this sort of thing in modern gaming for a reason.
(and obviously I'm echoing the folks calling for an increased starting amount of sp, because 5,000 or whatever it is now is legitimately just insulting)
While computers are amazing, they do take things too literally. x)
Yeah I'm genuinely hoping it's common sense by now not to do seriously dumb and offensive things, like call your pet KillAll(insert race/gender/sexuality/minority of choice here). On the other hand, if you make a pet based on a meme with a "bad" word (ex. Fuck Off Poseidon, in reference to the Sand Guardian vine), you're likely going to get a verbal warning for that. There's no heads-up warning, no little "hey, uh, you have -insert filtered word here- in the petname you're trying to create, please be respectful and careful with your petname choices" message box. You literally don't know what's allowed and what isn't, and getting a warning early on over something stupid can be a huge turnoff for a new user.
It's ritual dismemberment! I thought it would probably be okay but when I reviewed the rules of pet names again and it seem wishy-washy, I decided to just play it safe and find a different name (which is just the name of the play that features the ritual dismemberment). It might one thing to have organs everywhere but maybe the act of doing it might be going overboard?
A good idea. Telling new users they can get Morty Cards from questing (along with instructions for using a card) will encourage them to quest. Visiting the Bathhouse every day to get more CSC every so often will encourage them to log in every day.
Agreed. I know we have some games which give out an adequate sum of sP to enable people to do cheap quests but not everyone can play games.
