ok you know how sometimes Subeta gives you a Cloudflare error? Akamai is, like Cloudflare, a provider of a thing called a CDN:

So basically it's a system that puts a cache of the web page closer to the users around the world, so they don't have to go thousands of miles to get every bit of data on the internet site, but can get it maybe hundreds of miles away instead, and therefore faster. But maybe what's in the cache is old and outdated. So then I have to figure out how to notify it to check for a newer version.

Kind of like... imagine your job is to read a book to people. It's a magic book and you have the only copy in existence; it has a paragraph about everyone where you live, and it magically updates when something about the person changes, and new pages magically appear when someone moves to your area, and pages disappear when a person moves away or dies.

So people call you on the phone and ask for a person's name and you read them the page about that person. But it's expensive for everyone to call you long distance, so your employer hires Akamai to do a sort of relay with you: they have a person stationed in every area in the world, and when someone wants to know about a person in your area, instead of calling you directly, they call Akamai's local representative.

If no one called that local rep about that person before, they call you, you talk to them, and they relay the information to their local caller. If they already asked you about that person before though, they just read the information you gave them last time. So eventually, that person changes jobs and you need to tell Akamai that there's new information about that person, and the next time someone calls asking, Akamai will need to call you back for an update, not just give the old info they had from before.

So that's the web server's job and Akamai's service metaphorically :)

Long history of queerness. "Cowboys" were mostly men of color (mostly being Mexican and Native American), and a good portion were queer (I mean come on, men living off with one another away from society and raising farm animals ? Pretty obvious). The idea of them being white and straight came from Hollywood; similar to how they shaped the way we see pirates. Mmm chocolate.

I mean a lot of explorers weren't white... Well I'm still wondering (not actually) how Jesus became white in most pictures. Cos yeah, kinda doubt that.
