It sounds great! I don't know about there, but the rental vacancies in Toronto are soo low that there's been a lot of issues with renters being pushed out by people who suddenly 'want their apartment back,' often as a ruse to sell it. I actually had to kick out a tenant when I moved into my place and go to a legal hearing to 'prove' I wanted to live there and not resell it. Anyway, it sounds like you guys made a bad situation work out for the best. 15 mins is an awesome commute!

It's amazing how those kinds of jobs can work out :) I started out as a maternity replacement too! But the role has changed and now we're both on the team in different ways. I manage everything to do with our website. All the interns we've had since the beginning of the year report to me, which can be fun. I like manging people. I only go to Montreal once every few months. Most of my other coworkers are there, since we have a co-head-office there. They cut back our Toronto team awhile back, so now there's just me and a couple others in TO. So usually we're the ones who travel to them.

Are you living in Montreal now? I thought you were in Ottawa?

I think that was the case with our place. We walked by it the other day, but I wouldn't be shocked if it was new owners now and they had sold it.

I guess it's all about how big a deal the renters make. It's illegal but most people aren't going to go through the hassle of challenging an eviction. Technically it was the people who sold the place to me who should have had to prove anything, but my real estate agent said it would be faster if I went to the hearing, so I did it.

It is pretty nice to get paid to travel, even if it's just Montreal. Until last year, I'd never actually been! Anywhere in the city you recommend going/eating? I didn't realize Ottawa was that close. I honestly thought it was sorta halfway between Montreal and TO. Guess I need to brush up on my Geography skills, haha.

Ottawa is about an hour and a half from Montreal. I've only been there a handful of times, but I LOVE the downtown area in the summer C:

Sorry to take forever to ping back. My mom was admitted to the hospital so I've been really busy making trips back and forth. I've also been taking care of my dad since my mom isn't here.

She's doing well now, she has both a UTI and kidney infection...which led to a bladder infection as well. She has a low grade fever and her sugar levels are still high (she's diabetic) She is being given a lot of antibiotics. I'll be visiting her later this morning after i pack up a lunch for my dad and i.

awe sorry to hear that, hope she feels better soon. i just found out on sunday my dad had surgery on his eye on thursday and i cried cause i can't be there for him. i really don't enjoy having to live so far away from my family. :'(

The big one was I redid the kitchen. It had these terrible zebra striped cupboards. I changed them to a white stained wood. Various other little things here and there, moved an awkwardly placed light switch, changed curtains, integrated some 'smart home' stuff.

I loved Montreal, too. It's such a unique city, with its french influence, and lots of good places to eat. I was surprised how almost everyone is bilingual, though. I never had a language barrier.

My mother was released from the hospital last night. So glad she's back home. I hated seeing her in pain.

I hope you dad has a speedy recovery! <3 its hard to see parents in pain or have to go under for surgeries. We always want the best for them and dont like to see them suffer. I remember when my dad was going through surgeries to try to save his vision. His diabetes is really bad.
