Frieda saunters over to the lavish hors d'oeuvre table and piles up a plate of little sausages and cheese before she orders a tankard of dark ale from the bar. Weldon nibbles on some fruit and tries the champagne, which causes him to burp. He lets the burp escape out his nose in a ill-conceived attempt to appear gentile and winces when the bubbles burns his nose.

He chides himself for being less then gentile until he spies his bride, who has abandoned the little hors d'oeuvre toothpicks and has sausages impaled on all the claws of her left forepaw. He observes that barbecue sauce is running down her forearm and dripping from her whiskers. A blob of ale foam is stuck to her nose. "Wow, the VonSteubens certainly know how to make their presence known at a party..." he mutters to himself as he dabs at his snoot with his napkin.
