I had mine removed in October. Two of them on my bottom jaw. I was basically taxed over $800 for having crappy luck genetically because they made me pay up front, over $100 for a CONSULTATION where they took x-rays they could have requested from the dentist and told me what needed to be done.

The surgery went fine (I was knocked out for it) but I got dry sockets and have to come back to have medicated gauze inserted into the holes.

Thankfully after having braces for a few years it gave my wisdom teeth enough room to stay, and they ca,e in straight. My dad just got his out about 3 years ago and they were the size of tiny baby teeth.

I only ever had to get two of my wisdom teeth out; I still have both the ones on the bottom. My dentist said I only had to get them pulled if they bothered me, which was a huge relief because I thought I had to get them pulled no matter what.

One of them was pretty weird, though. I had been feeling this mushy bit in the back of my mouth for a while, and I couldn't really get a look at it in the mirror, but I just kind of assumed it was a bit of stuck food or something. The next time I went to the dentist and asked about it, he had a look. Turns out the mushy bit I was feeling was THE INSIDE OF MY TOOTH. Like, the crown had completely broken off, and the root was exposed o_o; I made an appointment to get it pulled, but we were both pretty shocked I wasn't experiencing any pain from it at all.

I had one of mine pulled without any stitches. Big mistake. Woke up to a mouth full of blood that was in the process of clotting and that wouldn't stop bleeding. It was basically a horror story. So disgusting. Thank goodness they had out of hours dental emergency care. Went there and got it patched up, they supposed gave me local anaesthetic (I felt the pain of its administration) but it made absolutely no difference and my jaw trembled throughout the entire painful process.

Case in point, if you're even iffy on your body's clotting ability, get it stitched up.

Oh noooo. I had all four removed at once a few years ago, and I didn't listen very well to the aftercare instructions. I ended up with dry sockets in both of the bottom holes, and it was the most excruciating experience of my life. 0/10 do not recommend. Make sure to follow all of the aftercare instructions your dentist gives you! Also, it helped the pain to ice my jaw.

I've had multiple jaw surgeries due to some issues with my joints, so I had to have my wisdom teeth removed by a facial reconstruction surgeon, a dental surgeon, and my joint surgeon working in tandem to make sure they didn't mess anything up further.

Literally the worst procedure i've had- it hurt so bad for weeks. I'd have full on open joint surgery again before I got my wisdom teeth removed again, if there were still any in there.

So much joy reading all these posts :(

I'm 29 years old and still hanging onto my wisdom teeth!!

I have had two surgeries right in front to remove extra skin that connects the gum and lip together. (The first surgery was not done correctly). This extra piece of skin was removed because it was causing a gap between my 2 front teeth, and I was going through braces trying to correct everything. Along with going through wearing braces, I had my top 2 second molars removed in order to make room in my mouth. From both of these experiences, it wasn't horrific, just awful for a bit. I will demand stitches for any further surgeries (aka, god forbid the wisdom teeth). I did not get stitches for the second gum surgery or the 2 molar extractions and the bleeding was just nasty and too much.

Because of the 2 molar extracts my top wisdom teeth are out. They are pretty big. And my bottoms are sitting on their side under the gums not doing or pushing anything that I am aware of. I have a metal retainer still glued to the inside of my bottom teeth and just plan to keep it there so nothing moves around. I have never experienced any pain.

I recently went for a regular cleaning 2 weeks ago - suddenly this Dr wanted me to get my top 2 teeth extracted because I'm "not using them and they are useless" and to "prevent cavities". I don't know why now, after going to the dentist for 5+ years that my wisdom teeth are now an issue for her (I was like, not good enough of a reason lady). I also with the 2nd molars removed years ago, removing the wisdom teeth will drastically change my bite. I had a dentists in the past say that I am using them. I also got told I have a number of cavities. I have never had more than 1 at a time and I regularly go to the dentist. All of this and the way I was treated in my last appointment I am switching dentists and going back to one with better equipment and staff. I lost my trust in my old dentist and need a second opinion.

You keep them and they are weak teeth. These giant things are very far back and hard to clean. At least, maybe they will be easy to grab out if the inevitable happens??? :( :( :(

I still have all of mine, but I need to get them removed. The bottom two feel fine, but I’m not sure how bad they are. The top two are bad, I’ve had a couple pieces come off them, and sometimes they hurt but never for too long. I’ve been so scared to because of my weight, but hopefully I can get the local anesthetic. I’ve had a root canal and everyone said it was horrible, but it wasn’t so bad so I’m not too worried.

The first time I went in, I started to come out of general anesthetic as they were yanking the tooth out of my mouth. The second time was better -- didn't wake up at all.

Thankfully all of my wisdom teeth came in with no real issues. Just really painfully xD Getting a numbing cream helps a bit, but only for so long. The last of them that was half way through is finally coming out the rest of the way recently, and my mouth has been so tender.

Stupid teeth ;~;

My wisdom teeth were coming in but majorly impacted so it had to be a quick removal. However, while it was all planned, was to be put under and all. Sounded perfectly fine except, I woke up in the middle of the surgery and I can remember the horrible pain and the sound of scrapping and grinding. On top of that, they sewed my cheek to my gum so now I bite my cheek more than I used to. yeah. fun times.

i feel like paying for them to get removed was way more painful than the actual process. if you have dental insurance that expires in the future, get it done sooner than later. furthermore, they say that the longer you wait, the more difficult/potentially painful it could be to have them removed.

mine was actually a breeze, more or less. woke up afterwards and my surgeon asked me how i felt. thought about it for a second, claimed that i felt sad, then burst into tears. i knew i didn't have anything to be crying about, so i guess i was more confused than anything. i cried for a good few seconds then was fine. dad and stepmom came into the room, talked to the doctor about whatever. my dad teased me about something, totally innocent, and i started to cry again, which was hilarious to him. looking back, yeah, it's pretty funny.

take the meds if they give you any and ice your face as much as you can. wrap an ice pack in a pillowcase or something, that's what i did. and take the aftercare seriously. dry socket isn't a joke. no smoking, no sucking/using a straw, and don't blow your nose super hard. take some days off of school or work or whatever and you should be just fine.

I got all 4 + 1 molar tooth removed at once and I was actually so relieved because after hearing tons of horror stories the pain wasn't even that bad. I couldn't use painkillers or anaesthesia but I was actually able to deal with the pain just fine! I had puffy cheeks for a while though :P

I had mine taken out almost 10 years ago. Apparently, when I woke up the first time, I swung at the dentist and almost knocked him out if he hadn't saw it at the last moment. I then followed to curse the next 7 generations of his family. I honestly remember nothing. When I woke up the second time, I was in severe pain. The best remedy my family had was to take two long soccer style socks, tie the feet together, and slide an ice-pack down each side. Then tie the tops together over your head to keep the ice packs applied to either side of your face.

Side note: The surgeon dislocated my jaw during surgery, so now it will pop the rest of my life. Super annoying.

Milkshakes are going to be the best part of the whole recovery process, if you're anything like me. I didn't say anything TOO weird while recovering from the anesthesia, but I did immediately request to take my removed teeth home with me when I woke up. Unfortunately the nurse said they already threw them away. :C

I took mine about 2 years ago or so, they didn't bother me until I was 23... But its actually a kinda funny story...

I had a sleep over my friends house, that is really close to the place I was scheduled for the procedure.

I woke up in the morning and my friend had already went to work (but since we are good friends he just left me the key to his apartment)

Usually I wake up with low blood pressure and it makes your body cold, you might get dizzy and stuff... Anyways, I'm so used to this I didn't really bother and I was too lazy to make any breakfast. I didn't eat.

And also I'm a little scared of dentists, so I had this great idea: I'm going to smoke a joint so I can be relaxed, I won't feel a thing, I won't be scared of the tools, I will just chill...

I did it... I went to the dentist high AF, with already low blood pressure, without eating anything...Aaand got anesthesia to remove the teeth... All those things combined made my blood pressure drop lower than the base (??)

When the procedure ended I couldn't get up. I was seeing doubled and my vision was getting dark when I tried to move lol I had to just lay there for a few minutes but they were closing cause it was saturday and they open just for a few hours on saturdays.

Had to walk to my friends apartment on my own. Looked like a drunk ass, holding on to the walls... Lol people say it was dangerous but I actually laugh about it now.

Depressed but well dressed
