I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was in my late teens. They gave me the gas and I kind of drifted but I wasn't fully asleep when I heard them saying they needed to cut the gas back. I did eventually fall asleep and my recovery took like 2 hours because I couldn't wake up. I was extremely groggy when I finally did wake up but my parents helped me into the car and got me home. I laid on the couch but I would have to change the gauze every so often when I started to taste too much blood. It was pretty gross. This is TMI but at one point I had to pee plus my mouth was just gushing blood so I sat backwards on the toilet so I could pee but also let the blood drip down into the toilet.

So... it wasn't that fun. The worst part though was laying on the couch, completely exhausted and having to watch stuff like Cityline and other talk shows. The remote was too far away and I was just too tired. My mom had put them on and I could barely talk or move on the first day so I had to just lay there and watch them lol I kid but it really wasn't fun.

I was given Tylenol 3s for the pain. I took them once but then I just decided to use Advil. It was a lot of pain but tbh it's not that bad considering what I feel now since I have a condition that causes chronic pain. I was back on my feet in a few days and back at school. At that time I could spring back from something like that easily. I wish I had that energy now, lol. I was told I could take a whole week off from school but I didn't want to. I was too bored laying on the couch watching daytime TV.

Anyway, definitely don't use straws for a while like others have said! It's bad. I was super paranoid for a while about letting food fall into the holes. I think some rice got in one once and it wasn't fun trying to get it out and then using gauze because it started to bleed too much.

This is a bit random but years later my mom told me that when she had to get surgery years ago she had a reaction to the sedative where she stopped breathing. I've also been told that the gas I was given shouldn't have knocked me out and I was told that I stopped breathing so they had to cut the gas back. Plus I just could not wake up for about 2 hours afterwards. Apparently the doctors and my parents tried to wake me but I just couldn't stay awake, I was so knocked out. So if I have to get surgery in the future it might be dangerous. xP

I will love you forever if you trade me:

My Mom had three of her wisdom teeth removed back in 2008 (or at least it was 2008. My Mom can't remember) on her birthday. She was given a local anesthetic so she was awake the whole time while they worked on her and only felt pressure on the surgical areas. While she didn't suffer from the usual stuff people do when they had their wisdom teeth removed, the recovery took much longer because she had become violently ill from the post-op medications prescribed to her. They had to leave one of them in because it was too close to a nerve and they didn't want to risk damaging it.

I don't have an interesting story to add since I haven't had my wisdom teeth removed, at least not yet. I'm currently 16 and I believe I can feel the two bottom wisdom teeth growing. It doesn't hurt but it just feels weird when I run my tounge over the area. I'm setting up an appointment with my dentist soon to get it checked out, hopefully I don't have to get them removed.

I do however have a story for when I got an infection in the right side of my mouth, back when I was 12 I think. I went to tree different dentist before being sent to the hospital. There I ended up getting operated while completly sedated. I don't remember much of the day since I got the operation early in the day, and was prety much half asleep the rest. Besides the slight complication with finding a vein for the needle with the medication, there was no trouble, and I felt fine again after a few days.

My best advice is to rest a lot and remember to stay hydrated!

Oh, wisdom teeth.

I had all four of mine out at the same time towards the end of high school. They were all (yup, all of 'em) impacted and either had to come out or they were going to push existing teeth out of my mouth. I opted to go totally under for the procedure (which was the best option- they told me I could do a local and be awake, but they weren't going to be able to take take the wisdom teeth out in one peice...so I'd hear it. Talk about the stuff of nightmares, no thanks!)

I didn't remember any of the procedure and apparently was pretty loopy when I came to. My face swelled up quite a bit (the Dr said that would probably happen too) and my friends called me "Chip" for a few weeks because I looked like a chipmunk. No problems once the swelling went down, but I'm glad I only had to do that once.

When I had my bottom wisdom teeth removed it was a nightmare because one of them had started to grow in sideways. It became infected and even though they kept numbing me up with novocaine it was horribly painful. Had to keep the gauze in for a long time because it kept bleeding and I was stuck with drinking my food for a while. I haven't had my top wisdom teeth out yet but I'm not looking forward to when that day comes. D:

I got all four of them removed in 2014 I believe. The lower ones were apparently in danger of growing towards the nerves and stuff so the dentist had to break some bones of my jaw through my mouth to fully remove them. The pain afterwards was not fun =.= On the flipside, I barely felt any pain on the upper ones XD.

More of a funny one, I had a friend who legit had 5 wisdom teeth to remove O_O"

Got mine removed in hospital when I was about sixteen years old. They had to take them out so early because otherwise my whole dentition would have been destroyed so they basically had to dig them out of my jaws. I had to stay in hospital for a whole week afterwards because I was at high risk of rebleeding and I looked like a swollen black and blue monster from a bad horror movie. The pain also was a big issue, I got no pain meds (What the hell!?) even though I wasn't even able to open my mouth wide enough to eat ice cream from a tiny plastic spoon. Maybe they thought I was fat enough to starve a couple of days, who knows...

A few weeks later, when I was already back at home, I got severe pain in my lower jaw again, went to my dentist and he found out that I had a nasty inflammation in my jaw bone so my jaw bone got drilled open, emptied out of all the pus etc and filled with a tamponade. That I still don't have a dentist phobia is a miracle now that I think of it.

These stories are always so gross but I just can't stop reading. My wisdom teeth have been giving me headaches and jaw pain for the past year or so, but only in the past month has the bottom right one erupted. I have a hole in my gums now, it's really nasty. I just hope there are no complications cuz I can't afford that now.

I had two sets of wisdom teeth removed! My first ones came in and I had another set growing under them that was causing me so much jaw pain. I was in my mid-late 20's when I had this happen. I went to this dentist place that was out of town, had my friend and her mom took me. Well, they wanted to go eat lunch so they left and I finally went back to get my surgery. When I was done, the nurse woke me up very rudely, I was very incoherent and completely out of it so I kept falling back to sleep, then she yelled at me to wake up because I needed to get off the table for the next person, so I was forced to get up to go sit in a chair. Well when she asked me where my ride was, I told her they went out to lunch and she started yelling at me! She was pissed! So she made me call my friend, when I did she said she was on her way back. Well when my friend came in to get me, the nurse yelled at my friend for being irresponsible and stupid for leaving. Let's just say they got into a yelling match, it was ridiculous! Later on that night, my (dissolvable) stitches on the right side of my mouth came out when I was trying to eat some jello. I was freaking out! But it ended up being fine in the end.

i had all 4 removed 5 years ago. be sure to clean out the holes where your teeth used to be with warm salt water!!! get all that blood and gunk out. it hurts at first, but i eventually found it felt good. my friend didnt clean them out ever and it was a nightmare .if you dont clean out the socets they will heal over and the food and bacteria will rot inside, meaning the sockets will have to be opened up again.

I got mine out nearly 10 years ago, and it only took about a week for me to be able to eat most regular food again. Just be super careful around that area and hopefully your recovery will go as well as mine did!

My actual wisdom teeth procedure was really easy and great. I didn't get put under or anything and they came out pretty easily. The horror story comes afterwards. My little brother and sister had stomach bugs like a couple of weeks before. But lucky me, I pick it up right after I have gaping holes in my teeth. So no widsom teeth+puking is a combination I do not recommend.

I had my wisdom teeth removed about 5-6 years ago (very late, as I'm almost 29). I only had 3 and they were all under the gums. All got removed at once. I was put under for the surgery, but woke up during. I think they were about 3/4 of the way done. That was pretty miserable. Pretty much had to hold me still till they were done.

I got home and vomited, which I believe is what caused my dry socket. Do whatever you can to avoid dry socket. It is VERY unpleasant. VERY. If you have to go in to get it taken care of, that's the worst of the pain (right away when they're putting whatever in), and then the thing they insert is completely soothing after. Though the whole thing is still painful, but less so.

Pain pills didn't help me in the least (I have a very high tolerance for pain meds).

Had all four of mine taken out. Everything tasted like blood for a week. I had really bad swelling from it and it went down after two months. I would've been fine if people wouldn't have commented about it all the time. One lady thought I had really defined cheekbones. Funny thing was you could seriously see the bruises and discoloration there.

I had a family friend remove mine. I was given laughing gas and he tried to get me to sing but I wouldn't. Even high me knew not to do that shit lol. I don't remember that whole day at all. I got all four of mine dug out at once. I couldn't really eat any solids for three days but like a day after I got them removed I went out to the pool. I had a little bit of bleeding but nothing major. No complications.

They sewed my cheeks to my gums. O___O It took 3 weeks to remove the stitches, and when I called the office they said they were closed due to flooding.

As for advice, I recommend mashed potatoes and chicken broth, it'll keep you full. Find something to occupy yourself with, and sleep when you can. It'll make the healing process go much quicker! c:

I now have a wisdom tooth story of my own! In late May, I went to the dental surgeon to have my wisdom tooth taken out. We had a short conversation about the upcoming Indy 500 before went to work. The only scary part was that my mouth getting numb. All and all, the wisdom tooth extraction went quickly. The fact that it was sticking out and loose helped a lot. My recovery went just as well; there was no need for pain meds! :D

I did take a look at the x-ray and noticed that I seemed to not have any bottom wisdom teeth at all! :O So it appears that I only have a single wisdom tooth remaining!

In other words, my wisdom tooth extraction experience went well despite my fears!
