Yes, totally based on those candycane plushies, but with holidays elements. And now that you have mentioned it, there are no other colors that screams ONE SINGLE FESTIVITY ONLY right into your face and... this is where the riddle comes, you see? People don't want simple swirly red and white patterns, but also this heavy-luminaire theme might not work.
I'm not skilled to make a visual representation, but god no, not Marapets lol Maaaybe some of the less-busy christmas neopets? I'll have to come up with a better description for the OP.
tbh, the challenge with the peppermint as a recolour is the fact that so many basepose colours already cover the field in terms of colours themselves. Peppermint without the extra festive trinkets overlaps both arid, dawn and cherry, so people kind of feel that it's a repeat and boring. And like you've said, with the Christmas sweets, baubles, tinsel, it's kind of too focused on Christmas. :c
Now, if you make the base a pale colour (pale mint green, pale pink, pale blue, pale orange), then add on darker candystripes and candyswirls, keep some white for highlights on the mane, eartufts, toes... That might work. That's a little more interesting without being overpoweringly Christmas-y, and kind of plays into people's wants of pastel-coloured pets. It would add another wildcard colour like vibrant, however. :/
I did mess with Photoshop last night and made a half-assed peppermint-swirl kerubi without any candy bits. I'll re-visit it after I finish my quests and make the markings less chunky, then I'll see about posting it.
How nice of you c: After you're done I can add it to the OP along with the pale color base description you offered?
I was thinking the other day and have other days before, that I'd love a Luminaire (Christmas) pet color. And the TC would be so fun too, with old and current Advent prizes. I feel like it would be hard to make them look original from other pet artwork from other virtual pet sites, though, but Subeta has amazing artists, so they could get it done. Hope a Luminaire pet happens someday.
@ SAMARITAN I'd wait until after you see it. x) I am by no means a Photoshop master, or a digital artist, but I Tried[sup]TM[/sup]. Artistic liberties taken compared to the default kerubi colourscheme: I kept the toes, underside of the tail, the chest, tummy and the snout white because it looked better to me and it broke the base colour up. I know I broke canon colouring b/c the toes are supposed to match the markings, it just looked better to me this way. ._. I did it for The Aesthetic. Always felt that the standard kerubi could use more white/lighter colours to break it up.
The markings are reminiscent of those swirly, marbled bits you'd get with handmade/old fashioned candies. Or peppermint watermarble nails, for anyone who's into nail art. Figured they'd work best if they replaced the default pet markings, or were added as accents in the case of pets that have no markings. A legeica would have swirly scales or hooves, for example. A dragarth could have swirly wings, or horns. Kumos would have swirly moon markings. Some pets would have more, some would have less in terms of the swirly accents, but they wouldn't be used to add more markings, just to sit in place of existing ones. ... I feel like I'm prattling on too much about this, haha. Basically - swirly colour reminiscent of candy that doesn't punch you in the nose with peppermint or Christmas. Works for all colour combos, I just need to get to faffing around with more examples besides the standard minty one.
Half-assed example, you have been warned
[edit] Added more examples.
At least now I know it was specifically my post that warranted those initial edits. Where did I say "I don't like it"? Even if I had said I didn't like the idea, that's ok! That's what suggestions are for, for people to give feedback. Chances are that my post was read way more hostile than it actually is.
I said I don't want to see sweetheart pets recolored, especially since those pets alone are already pink. This is the biggest factor, because yes, blacklight and harvest pets are boring because they're recolors of already existing special-posed pets. Even though Harvest has some tweaks to it, the color lacks its own "personality" from glade. Heck, harvest would have been a lot more interesting if they looked like the challenger released last month.
I also said that the advertised color scheme of pink and white was already covered by some recolors, specifically in arid. Color scheme and markings aside, recoloring Sweetheart pets wouldn't be unique in the sense that they'd still have a love-struck personality. That's what I meant by a color losing it's charm to recolor it again. Why would Peppermint pets look lovesick? If we're not going to recolor the basic posed pets, Peppermint needs to have it's own "personality" as well, not just be tied with a Subetan holiday because it's released during that time.
Other posts in this thread have made it sound a little more appealing opposed to being yet another recolor, but it would still be a difficult color to pull off without looking either too christmas-y (not everyone celebrates christmas), or by having too many accessories. Staff themselves have said they will not implement any pet colors that have clothing. On that note, Sweetheart itself is really pushing it as it is with the candy necklaces.
The most I could see happening as far as accessories are perhaps some pinecone wreaths (like this or this), but again that would be really pushing it as far as the "no clothing" rule.
Idk, personally I like that subeta doesn't have specific pet colors that scream HEY IT'S LUMINAIRE/CHRISTMAS because that's kinda tacky and overdone in my opinion.
No offence intended but... I’d personally rather staff spent time developing actual interesting pet colours not just bland overdone Christmas color themes like every other site does... this just seems a little... boring.
I really like those, specially the second one, the colors go really well together! But, at least with me, they don't make me think of candy cane or peppermint first thing :c They have festive colors, sure, but they look more like the patterns we see in Shengui Guo, like in Jogoh's outfit and some items (besides the flowers): - I think you got the idea. It might just be me, so I'll de adding them to the OP. Thank you very much for your contribution. :)
Sorry, but all I got from your post was "no, I don't like it, next". Even in my original post I never said it needed to be white and pink, candy canes are red too, and to have the peppermint theme (now further explained).
I totally see your point, many people aren't liking the whole recolor idea, which I'm surprised indeed cause harvest is so popular, that's why I suggested a recolor in first place. But for me, recolor or not, I'd love to see a Peppermint Color that appeals to most users.
I do apologize for sounding rude in the OP before, there is no justification for that, even with my interpreting your post "more hostile than it actually is." as you mentioned.
Looking at the mock up, all I could think of was ribbon candy and idk why

I wouldn't mind it being based more off of that. Or being a color that gets released with maybe Vesnali? Yeah I know Sweetheart is basically candy themed, but if you go with the generic ribbon candy, there's more to it than just 2-3 colors. Could be like vibrant with a handful of different color schemes.
And now I want to eat ribbon candy even though it's kinda gross.
That was the idea! :D
I didn't want it to feel like a forced holiday colour. I wanted to present it as something that could work both with Luminaire, but also outside of it. As I've posted previously on the topic, candycanes and peppermints can come in all kinds of colours and flavours, and people have already expressed disinterest in the standard peppermint colours, so I didn't want to force it too much with the default pink/red/white.
aaah yes, then you are on point! I'm digging so much the example I posted, I'm sure more ppl will like this scheme.
I'm glad you like it! c:
It really helps to have a few visual examples of things when you're presenting something big like a pet colour. I kinda rushed this and I worked with the small 200x200 pet image, so it's a bit lacking compared to official art, but hopefully it helps to bring the idea across a little better!
I'm with , I like the idea in general, the plushies are super cute, and tbh I don't think I'd ever say no to a new pet color whether I'd ever use it myself or not! The pets are my fav part of Subeta, so the more options available for them the better, in my opinion.
But... I really have to agree with the comments pointing out how many pets have yet to be released in special colors, and how many have yet to be revamped. (Aeanoids pleeeeeeeeease!?) I really would rather that new colors be "put on the back burner" like someone else said until more revamps are finished, at least. (Obviously, I'm not counting new basic colorfills like vibrant, since those are quicker.)
I think a best example of "variable winter holiday color" is the Christmas coloring on Neopets. It isn't terrible, it looks really silly on a ton of the species (like the Jubjub, oh gods), but it's got cute little things like the Pteri being colored after the European Robin + the Hissi having a peppermint-stripe belly. More lowkey seasonal stuff like that could be cute, but again, it'd be hard to be coherent and consistent..
I guess a just "traditional" Christmas color doesn't really work too well on here, since the site's starting to move more and more away from real-world holidays and themes. Like, some stuff still persists, and there's definitely overlap, but.. it's not awful interesting to me, and it being explicitly Christmas-themed is kind of a turnoff when I don't care much at all for the holiday in real life. Winter festivals, yeah, but typical Christian stuff isn't a part of my life all that much anymore, dude!
Just, with all the existing colors like Glacier, Angelic, Galactic and Nostalgic already hitting all the popular "Christmas" themes, it seems unnecessary. I'm all for more creative colorfills and for a possible Sweetheart redo, but why do those when artists can be working on brand new colors, or revamps for pets that really need it?
Wait you mean I'm not the only one? Oh, man, I would love that so much. There aren't any pet colors based off of the Saheric/Sacred Lands region yet-- there's pet species but no colors! That's one pet color I can totally get behind.
I really don't like basic recolors even more so for recolors of special pet colors. There's nothing special about them and they're just boring.I would be fine with a peppermint color as long as it's a unique from the other colors that are currently on site.
Aww, this is a cute idea! I am totally on board with this,, especially if the pets hold candy canes in their mouths!
I've wondered about this... I mean we keep getting plushies...
