omg I love travelling!! I studied abroad in Paris during college and I sooooo want to go to Ireland. I was thinking of WWOOFing there for a year or so (i still might), but I am about to accept this other job to teach English in China for a year, si no Ireland until that's over.

I went with People to People: Student Ambassadors. I was only there for a few days but I really liked it. That's really cool you got to study in Paris. I did a class trip to Spain in college and loved it. I love traveling, esp in Europe.

And you should totally accept the job in China. That would be amazing. My best friend was going to teach English in Kyrgyz Republic through the Peace Corps but she ended up not going because of health problems.

WOAH. I think I applied for literally that same excursion. I ended up not going because I couldn't afford it at time time. Did it go through Ireland, Scotland, England, and Wales?

Yes it did. It was really cool but the people who I went with were super stuck up. I only stayed friends with one person from the trip and we just recently ended the friendship.

I would like some advice on something - it deals with a guy I like.

I have been best friend with this girl for my whole life (over 30 years). I have grown up with her and her family, she has a younger brother by one year (her and I are the same age). Through out the years I have thought about him in a romantic way but I have never done anything. I am overweight and don't normally have a lot of confidence. Lately though I am trying to get confidence and do things that scare me but might actually be good for me. I am even having weight loss suergery at the end of the year.

My mom has told me that she thinks it would be a terrible idea for me to date him - that my friendship will be ruined. I would never do anything to hurt my friendship with me best friend. I don't even know if this guy likes me, but I was thinking of asking him out just to see what would happen.

What do you guys think?

Talk to your friend about it first before confessing to her brother. That way she cannot really fault you for hiding anything from her and if she really has that big of a problem with it, then it won't be because you didn't tell her first. You cannot help what you feel - you literally have zero control over it, so whether she gets angry or something, she should at least understand your situation. She may also be able to provide you with the real advice you need in how to best handle this as well and if things go sour with the guy, you will still have the friendship of your friend for support.

Side note: seems like you are coming to terms with this right now, too, but let me just say: never let societies standards for who should and shouldn't do something keep you from ever doing what you want to do. We will never be able to change these expectations unless we be the change and watch it all ignite.

first off i am so proud of you, getting that surgery is a big deal (my sister is busy for one to). I agree with talk to your friend first.

I'm originally from the US, but moved to France 8 years ago. I don't regret living in another country, learning another language and all the perks that come from living in Europe. I just miss my family a whole lot (especially around this time of year...) I definitely recommend everyone to go traveling and see the world! There's so much out there to discover and explore!

I have been struggling with thyroid issues (and the weight that comes with it) for most of my life, so I understand the insecurity. Just try to accept yourself for who you are and the rest of it will come together on its own.
