We can't put a time frame on something when we don't know when it'll be done. If we gave one on the tea house it wouldve changed a bunch because the idea has morphed. If we did constant news post updates, people would still be frustrated with wow this still isn't done. We also can't provide a lot of information without spoiling what will happen with particular things. I'll talk with Rah about adding in a little section in the general updates bug and I do about hi this is still be working or something.
Soooo is the guest book deleted?
At least it's 'just the guestbook' but given that this has happened before it's not the best trend. Data Integrity is good.
Edit: Also the experiment pets didn't even get a 'soon' really. I know the timeframe is going to be longer because art commitment, but at this point I kinda feel like they're gonna pop up in months and months when I've practically forgotten. Which elicits a slightly different response depending on if I was conditioned to expect that or not.
Guest book is going to happen. The experiment pets were never going to be right away because they had to be updated a bit art wise and get their colors; one will def be out this month though (SO PUMPED FOR IT).
Oh so excited about that experiment-turned-pet news! Was really curious about when they would get here. Thank you !
Amber
Wouldn&;t it be easier to actually tell us things like that up front so we know what&;s going on instead of waiting months not knowing if staff even remember it? I think being proactive about information instead of staff being totally silent until frustrated users start making posts would go a long way.

Please re-read my post Amber. I never said a word about a timeframe.
If you know its behind, as it is now, why do you not tell us into topics like this are made? This is what goes down literally every single time anything big happens on Subeta. Heck it even happens to small things. There's no word on anything, staff seem to have forgotten, users get frustrated, forum topics/Tumblr posts/etc are made, staff sometimes respond with something like "no we didn't forget its just taking 2384892384 time because [reason]".
Its getting old and the more it happens the more frustrated users will get. The more they'll just give up. The coding sprint post things are a great start. Why not start doing that for in-the-works things users know about and are waiting on every so often, I dunno maybe every two weeks? We wouldn't even need a ton of information. Literally what you posted initially, stuff like that, would be so much better than any communication we've ever gotten from staff. I have never asked for timeframes or deadlines and I'm still not asking for that. And with News posts like that (not hidden forum replies), everyone would easily be able to see that things haven't been forgotten.
Or maybe just finish things in advance before teasing them to users? I know that's not always possible but perhaps staff should focus on working that way instead so there's no expectations and users can't get frustrated/annoyed/upset/etc about super late things.
I don't think we need that much information about how Subeta works, yikes!. It may be fun for you, but the bossy appeal of "how things work exactly with strict supervision" is limited to most users, IMO. Any and all communication time Staff puts towards constantly updating and updating the users is time they aren't spending on doing those things.
is totally about communication, but you can see if you follow his posts that even counting how awesome and powerful his coding skillz are, the constant pingage is slowing things down and breaking his concentration.
Subeta is a boutique site with a lovely yet smallish staff. All y'all expect that they're like Google or Coke. Fuck even Neopets with tons more users, staff tells players there jack-shit about what they're up to (I know people who play there) and Subeta stages more events and holidays in a year than the entire new team did in the four years before they got bought by that new chinese company.
Please find a way to relax, dudes and dudettes. :)
I typed this up in random bits and pieces while doing other things, so I apologize for the poor flow, errors, repetition from other posts in advance! I tried to make it more legible, but it may not be. :(
Personally, I wouldn't want the News to be updated with 'we're still working on it' notes. I like the News to be just new-s? (if that makes sense) I'm also not the kind of person that thinks that taking time to do things (right) means that it's been forgotten about (even if I would like some sort of idea when things might be). But, I totally get that it can seem that way to other people, or for people that checked in during the last event and see that X is still not done yet and they don't see any mention of it. Thinking 'well, maybe staff isn't doing X anymore?' is a pretty acceptable conclusion.
What about if, say, once a month, staff popped open a thread for a week about users' concerns about whatever? Sort of the opposite of this, where users get annoyed and vent a lot at once. (not that there's a thing wrong with people voicing concerns! but, maybe more of a... known-in-advance-that-it's-going-to-happen, get-your-concerns-in-order discussion would be better?) The first few might be long/heavy, but as things were addressed, there might be less repetition in questions. And, I said a week, because if it was the whole month long, there would be questions asked on the last day and stuff, and then do you continue that discussion on the last month thread or bring it to the new month thread? And, it'd be less like people looking into concerns and more like 'we keep asking staff about X and we're not getting answers fast enough' Having a timeframe known in advance can be nice. :P
A page about 'a big list of things in the works' that was linked on the News page, under the Upcoming section or something? Then maybe people would feel less like things were being forgotten when things aren't out in a week or a month and there's 'no mention' of them? The long term things (which feels like a lot of the things). Or, if something HAD been forgotten, someone could point it out so we all could know that it was still being worked on or if it'd been discarded and then there'd be a better chance for us all to know/have reference. For example, I like these sprints where the little things that get worked on by Amber and Bug an awful lot. I wouldn't notice some of them, see the post that inspired the fix, or, if I'd taken a break, probably realize that they'd changed at all (like pet page changes, moving the button on the shop stock page, just adding in the Other gender option, and other little usability things that make using the site easier, users happier, and reduce lag, but not necessarily obvious).
As for other things; the teahouse. I'd much rather see something 'fun' done with it that takes a while to create and troubleshoot than it just being another 'buy stuff here' 'look at the new items' 'look at the cool new shopkeeper image' and have it just done to be done. I'd prefer a bit more out of it, if possible. and i want to see Gabriel working in that completed tea house~ Ideas evolve and that's great.
Or, the new experiments-turned-full-fledged pets. Sure, you could just kind of color edit those suckers and have them done fast, or you could take some time and make them actually look nice and balanced, like pretty colored tail eyes on the peahorse or pleasing horns, hooves, and leg/face-scales. (you know, when people find some time between event stuff, regular revamps of stuff, getting all of the other pets into all of the other colors, their other/actual jobs and life, etc.)
Hell, even the marriage guestbook. If they'd just posted the lot immediately: 'well, that's too many things to read' 'this one is inappropriate' 'a lot of this is spam' etc. If they just posted a few: 'I wanted to see more' 'this isn't enough' 'I wanted to see mine/my friend's' and so forth, like we've seen with Oatmeal houses and new Shopkeepers. Surely there's a happy medium, but it seems like it's been hard to hit.
Sorry for rambling & it's almost like different users want different things because they're all different people or something. heh.
Why not introduce a area where only staff can update and they put "Upcoming Projects" on and keep it updated that people can check out. Something that will send out a server wide event saying that the page was updated. You could post little spoilers and things like that in there.
Just a thought, to be honest, long as stuff gets added to the site I am fine with it. Been here nearly 10 years and still got a ton of stuff to do. -lol-
I also hate terms like 'soon' 'near future' 'site is down, sorry for the lag' However in my 7.5 years of playing, i've seen stuff actually getting done. i dont even know what lag is anymore. if the site lags, it's most likely my computer because it's old, but seriously it rarely lags! im happy to hear that the tea house will actually be here now in fall, and i can barely wait!
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
I've been thinking about this for several days. We never visit the special shops again after we've got everything we want because nothing new is ever added to them. Five Seven Five and Fine Fabrics could do with some love.
There's topic about adding more items to Fine Fabrics which was started in March.
https://subeta.net/forums.php/read/871665/A-Second-Wave-For-Fine-Fabrics/1
The shop will get items when the art team has time to dedicate to it! We're hitting holiday season, which we've been preparing for the past month or so, and we're also working on things like the tea house and other things. They are a smol but mighty team!
The thing I first thought of when I saw this thread just now, was that Stripe will be removed "soon" and replaced totally with paypal. That only bothers me because of having to make two separate purchases to get the two bonus items each weekend.
Overall I agree with the sentiment that while it can be annoying, things do get done around here even if it's eventually, and I have seen so much improvement in how the site works over this last... decade (that is so weird to think about LOL) and honestly thanks to all staff who just hasn't quit over this kinda ragtag website and the typical monster that is any online userbase... we aren't easy to deal with. :P
I'm sorry if I came across as demanding new stock immediately. I just posted a link to that topic to show that people are still interested in the kind of items that could be sold there.
