I'm not bothered by the wait time for QaT rewards (though obviously I'm looking forward to them!) but I would love more specifics ETA when possible to give them, even if it's "no later than __" or "likely between __ or __". Just a better idea of what to expect would be nice, basically.
We give specific timeframes when we can. Because of the change of schedule it's been a bit difficult coordinating the exact timeframe with the several staff members we need to be online for it. I'd rather say soon than give you an exact date we may not be able to make.
Understandable! I think that's the best way to do it tbh.
I'd much prefer specific dates too BUT at the same time... There is a game I do play that USED to give specific dates (Looking at you 7D2D) and when they did miss deadlines it was a total shitstorm so I can understand why a company might not give out dates. I think it prevents us as users from being overly upset when goals are missed (even by short amounts) and keeps a little bit of pressure off staff. As Madmole always says "It's done when it's done." =P
(And personally I'd rather it done right than just 'done'. So as annoying as waiting is, if Staff needs more time then I'll just be chilling in Soonsville. glances longingly towards the CW database....)
I just got my Quest-a-Thon rewards, so they are going out now. A couple of days after the event ended isn't really that much later.
Yes, everybody should have their prizes now.

Plus, it helps us being more patient, IMO.
The point of my post wasn't about people being patient / more patient! Sorry if it came off that way. It really has nothing to do with being 'patient' but instead it has to deal with the pressures put on staff. A deadline means that staff needs to try to abide by the deadline to the best of their ability and sometimes that isn't possible. Since sometimes staff is overwhelmed or doesn't always get out the best means of communication when there is a mishap, deadlines are extremely detrimental to what they're trying to push out IMHO. So for us as users the thing we need isn't patience, but understanding that staff is a small group of people and they can't always fix everything asap / need to wait on people / etc.
This.

I wouldn't mind somewhat more specific deadlines such as, "in the next few days,", "before next Friday," etc. but I can understand why having exact deadlines doesn't work well.
The thing I'd really like to know is what happened to the guestbook for the wedding? That was a few months ago... things like that I'm more likely to complain about because that is a long time.
LOL, I agree with a bunch of people in here, even those with somewhat opposing views.
I think deadlines are appropriate. Sure they can add stress to staff, but it might also keep things from falling through the cracks. It also helps the users not to obsess too much and when things really are late (like the guestbook) or forgotten, we can post a general reminder that isn't being annoying or impatient.
Deadlines can be vague, eg "before Friday" "after the weekend" "When Amber gets back from vacation" etc., but having a better idea than "soon" would be good.

I don't see an issue with providing rough timeframes. I feel like most people who work in an environment with projects are used to providing timeframes, and you learn to deliberately overshoot and give yourself cushion.
"We expect that prizes will be available within the week." And then if it happens in the next hour, it's a pleasant surprise. And if something unexpected comes up, and it takes all week, then you've at least still met your commitment, and no one will be mad or wondering what to expect.
It is a bit sad that "soon" is a running joke on Subeta, and that, even after all these years, can still be used unironically.
I would absolutely prefer a timeframe of a week or month or so for some things or even a year for others (like the business guy that's been brought up, ex "we plan to have that done by spring 2018" or whatever, but people would still be like "it's the first day of spring, where's our dudes?"). I also rather like it when things work too. I don't mind waiting if it means that, say, all of the prizes are sent out properly and stuff doesn't break, or people not getting doubles or whatever. (I'd like to point out that subeta has NOT had to roll us back a day in years! That's a great thing. It used to happen, every so often, and, sure, we'd get csc or something, but it sucked. I lost out on an Amulet of Neutrality and I do the hustler every day, have yet to get another.)
That being said, I still like subeta's version of 'soon' as this 'soon' usually means that it'll happen at some point. Another pet site [sub]that i worked on[/sub]? Their soon™ NEVER happened. Subeta's doing better than an old, dead petsite that promised many things and never did those things and that's still good, to me. :P
Hell, I'd occasionally point out that, instead of just saying soon™, they should've overestimated when things would be done. People would rather see something done 'early' than be done 'late' even if those words didn't really mean anything, because it looks better to complete those wanted things 'early.' So, I guess I'll tell you too subeta, lie to us & make yourself look better~ haha! ;)
Deadlines please. I agree they can be vague like 'next month' or 'by Monday', but 'soon' is not an acceptable one.
Deadlines would lead straight to nonconformity and way more complaints.
"Soon" -> "Deadlines please" -> "Around one week" -> "Too vague" -> "In 3 days and 8 hours" -> Deadline is missed -> "OMG IF YOU CAN'T KEEP UP WITH YOUR DEADLINES DON'T SET THEM UP. UGH STOP LYING TO YOUR USERBASE" -> "Soon"
Basically what said. I'm fine with the non-specific deadlines as long as "soon" doesn't become like a year later.
We got our prizes for both the Quest-A-Thon and the Gelatin War within the same week as the events ended, that's far from an unreasonably long amount of time to wait.
People mention the wedding guestbook but ... Personally, I've been wondering about the wedding charity donation results. The end of it was announced over 3 months ago so.. "so be sure to see them worked on in the near future" I'm just wondering when the near future is, especially since the already-busy event season is about to start.
Ha! I completely forgot about the charity projects. I'm really surprised we've not seen one of these released yet, especially since we've not had a big summer event this year. How long will we be waiting for all three to be done?
We're working on them. :) The tea shop is going to be more than just a tea shop where we put in items and you spend sP and never visit again. Originally, we were playing around with a "special" shop like others in Shengui but realized that wouldn't be enough. We really wanted to incorporate lore into it! People suggested some great things for each and it just so happens the most complicated charity won first. Ideally, and I would like to have the tea part out by October. Some of the things we want to incorporate will be great for Morostide spirit shout out.
Each of the projects are large -- a garden revamp will include new items, new programming, etc. That's time from each department. The Tea (winning charity) is going to have a lot involved, too. The map would've taken at least a month to get done, because the detail in those large maps are always amazing and take a while, and we have a few things we want to move there / open there.
They'll be done and out when they're finished. We haven't forgotten about them and we're excited for what's planned for each <3
Wouldn't it be easier to actually tell us things like that up front so we know what's going on instead of waiting months not knowing if staff even remember it? I think being proactive about information instead of staff being totally silent until frustrated users start making posts would go a long way.
