“Thanks, bruh.” (@/raven) Fade’s grin broadened as he hopped on his broom and zipped over to grab a belt of the opposite color than @/Sauvage. After attaching the belt securely he pulled the broom up and flew toward her. “Ready when you are!” He called out thought he distance between them before leaning down like a cat preparing to pounce.
And she was off!
Sauvage leaned close to her broom to get a better feel of her direction and to also make sure she didn't bump into the rings as she went. She somehow magically swerved in and out of the first three rings easier than she'd expected. Her broom wobbled a bit as she struggled trying to decide if she should speed up or slow down to get through the next hoops - but then she remembered that Fade was right behind her and the decision was made for her. She leaned forward to accelerate her broom, speeding through the next two rings. She made it through the next ring too, but not fast enough as it clipped the back of her broom. The hit jostled her and she tried her best to gather her bearings without stopping. Still a bit dizzy, she came up on the U-turn and reached out to grab the flag - and missed! Trying to fly with only one hand was not her strong suit. She circled back to try and get another chance at the flag, looking over as she did this to try and catch a glimpse of Fade...
As soon as took off, Fade followed. He was impressed how she maneuvered past the first few rings with ease. Maybe watching the others had done her some good as well. For a beginner she was doing great. But Fade was gaining fast. When she clipped the end of her broom on the sixth ring Fade was forced to slow down so he wouldn’t run into the thing. Leaning to the left he made a small loop around and tried again for a better shot. Picking up speed he made it through.
As Sauvage approached the u-turn Fade leaned in. In her attempt at a second pass, he reached out and snatched one of the flags from her belt. “Yoink!” His grin remained as he came to a stop, floating a bit ahead of her and holding it out teasingly. “Looks like we gotta start over.” Was he prolonging the ordeal? Of course not, he was just playing the game. Wasn’t that the point?
Sauvage shook her head, frustrated with herself. Fade got her flag and she'd messed up with the rules. Upon missing the red flag, she should have just kept going and grabbed it on the second lap but she made the mistake and turned around, which was just a bad strategy in general when being chased. She looked at Fade and rolled her eyes, wondering how many times they'd have to do this before she actually won. If she'd ever win for that matter.
She shook off the thought and nodded back at Fade. "Yeah, okay. Anuzzer round?" She slowly started returning to the beginning of the course. " 'ey, um Fade?" She suddenly turned around to see his face. "Seence everyone else is making bets...would you like to geeve eet a try as well? Make a bet, I mean."
Handing ’s flag back as they flew, Fade nodded. “Yeah sure, a bet sounds fun.” At least he hoped she wouldn’t make him eat slugs or something if he failed. “Got anything in mind?” This time she was sure to give him a real run for his money, having gotten the chance to more or less practice once.
In fact, she did have something in mind: "Welllll, eef I ween zen you 'ave to draw me". It was something they had talked about a while ago, but then it never happened. Sauvage was determined to get this boy alone and to have him draw her. She was dying to find out how he would draw her to be.
She took her flag back from him, saying "thank you" and putting it back on her belt. Then she looked at him, daring him with her eyes to say what she'd have to do if she lost.
Having seen the look of disappointment on her face already once today, he really couldn’t bring himself to decline her offer. “Sure, OK.” () Fade lifted a brow. “So if I win, you’re drawing me?” Sounded fair enough to him. Besides he had the feeling like she was only trying to get them to spend some quality time. He was trying to be more perceptive anyway, instead of so self conscious all the time. More like his much more charismatic friends were.
Floating back to the starting position instead of crouching down he only adjusted slightly. It had occurred to him after the first run that there was a time and place to be a speed demon, and maybe this wasn’t really one of them. Better to focus on not getting hurt, and just having fun.
Sauvage laughed and shook her head at his request. "Okay, but wiv zees bet, I think you lose no matter what." Any drawing she made of him would consist of 5 straight lines and a circle for the head. Maybe a few different colored crayons smudged across the top to make up his hair.
Fade settled into position behind her and she took a deep breath. She really didn't have any confidence that she'd win against him, but she couldn't deny that she enjoyed the challenge - and the quality time with him up in the air. With that thought, she looked back at Fade one more time before kicking her broom forward and starting the course anew. She found that she flew best when she kept her mind clear and tried not to think about how to do things, but rather just did them. This time she made it through the beginning rings without hitting any of them, although it did require some very jerky side-to-side movements to keep up the pace. Time for the U-turn. Sauvage pushed her broom forward, willing it to go as fast as she was comfortable flying. She had no idea just how close behind her Fade was and tried to not get side-tracked. Stretching out the fingers of one hand while keeping the other locked and on her broom, she managed to grab the red flag, but had a bit of trouble with the actual turn since she'd been so focused on speed up until now.
Fade kept his distance at first. Left and right, a bit more right, another left. He even resisted picking up too much speed as the u-turn approached. Passing through the sixth and then seventh rings he dipped down and grabbed at the remaining flag dangling from the pole at an angle in an attempt to give a bit more of a lead. Of course without making it look like he was. Using the momentum from the turn he shot upwards a bit and pulled the flag free. Grabbing onto both it and his broom as he followed Sauvage toward the second half. There was a sweet scent on the wind, and he was glad for the breeze even if it slowed him down.
((OOC: ok that whole breeze thing is too cute))
She had to put every bit of energy into it that her arms would allow, making herself able to U-turn without spinning out of control. During this, she noticed Fade out of the corner of her eye as he grabbed his red flag from the pole as well. She clenched her thighs around her broom and rolled her shoulders back as she dove into the second half of the course. First ring - done, then left and through the next ring. Sauvage turned wildly to get through the next ring, and then left through another one, shooting through the one following that as well. Only three left. Everything was a blur. Wait - literally everything was a blur because her hair had come undone during one of the turns and was now whipping across her face.
((its all cute. :D I wish I had something better reply lol but you all get one sentence ;) )) MAgnus watched the match and the couple playing with great interest.
He had to admit, she really had improved quite a bit in a very short amount of time. She was even handling her broom more like an extension of herself. Fade realized he was losing focus and narrowly avoided running into the twelfth ring. The broom’s foothold tapped it as he passed sending an unpleasant shiver up his leg.
Looking up, something ahead of him caught his eye. Reaching out he grabbed what looked like a metallic rubber band from out of the air. Curious to be sure, he refocused just in time to narrowly avoid colliding with the thirteenth ring. Rolling to the right he stabilized and crouched down in an attempt to pick up speed and close the distance between them.
Suddenly he realized what the metallic thing had been as he flew into an unseen vortex of mango scented air. Slowing considerably while stuffing the red flag into his mouth, just in case he needed a free hand to use his wand, Fade watched with bated breath as closed in on the remaining rings. Her hair making her look very much like a flying firestorm.
She squinted to see the next ring through her frizzy pink locks and passed through it, grazing the left side of her body against the inside of the ring. She could feel herself losing control of her broom and the sudden loss of vision didn't help. Trying to keep herself steady, Sauvage thought for a moment on what to do next and taking the gamble, she tried to position herself at what she thought would be the best possible angle before jump-starting her broom and rocketing forward. She made it through the next ring, but on the last one the tip of her broom got caught on the underside of the ring, causing the whole broom to flip and throwing Sauvage off. With her head bent down and every limb tucked in as close as she could get them, Sauvage braced herself for impact as she flew through the last ring without her broom.
(he can hop on the broom and try to saver her, but not sure if ya all want that)
Magnus was getting really used to this spell as he watched in horror as Sauvage was through the ring without her broom. "Arresto Momentum!" he cried, slowing her descent.
“Arresto Momentum!” () The red flag flew from Fade's mouth as he cast the spell. He wasn’t even worried about finishing the course at this point, but sailed through a few rings all the same on his way to catch her before she hit the mud. Dipping below and missing the last ring entirely he let go of the broom with his hands and held out his arms to catch her. Sure he was still pretty dirty and probably a little sweaty, but wasn’t that better than taking a soggy mud bath? Had to be better than another broken arm anyway.
The sudden contact caused an eruption of butterflies to explode inside Fade’s chest as Sauvage’s hair fell all over them. “Are, you OK?” He asked trying not to get too much of her hair in his mouth. The broom began to slow and listed lazily to a stop on the grass. When they had come to a complete stop and he made sure she was OK to stand, he leaned over a bit and held out the hair tie he had caught. “Think you dropped something…”
Sauvage heard multiple people yell out words and felt her momentum slow through the air... and then she wasn't falling anymore. She was on the grass. She looked up at Fade, unsure of whether to cry or laugh. There was some mud on her that had probably rubbed off from Fade when he caught her. After offering her hair tie back, time seemed to catch up to her and she locked eyes with Fade. She grabbed the hair tie, but not just the hair tie; she grabbed Fade's hand and pulled herself close to him. A small voice in the back of her mind expressed worry that she might be too forward, but she didn't care. She buried her face in his chest and hugged him. Then she began to laugh.
"Duz zees..." She looked up at Fade without moving away. "Duz zees mean I won?"
Fade jumped slightly being caught by surprise when she hugged him, but didn’t resist and took the opportunity to keep her close for a second. Although he felt like the butterflies in his stomach would be shooting out of his eyes any second. “Ahg, your right!” Whining dramatically he faked disappointment confirming her win. His hair once again turning a deeper shade of pinkish red under all the dirt.
Disengaging he took a step back. “That was a lot of fun...” His eyes found the ground and stuck there. “You did a great job you know.” He kicked at the grass absently avoiding eye contact and pretended to adjust his wrist guards again. "I mean for a beginner." He looked back up deviously with a slight smirk. Really he didn't have much room to talk, he had only been introduced to flying two years ago and didn't often get the chance to practice outside of school.
(( I gotta go to bed now it's like 2AM XD It was fun, I'll be around tomorrow! Thanks for waiting on me forever ❤️ ))
Now that impending doom was over Magnus went over to them both. "You both did really well. I'm glad you're okay Sauvage, you 'ad me worried! Nice catch Fade!"
((OOC: yeah, it's my bed time, too. Night!))
Fade confirmed her win, looking sad. She noted the slight change of color in his hair, just barely visible beneath the dirt, and figured he wasn't as broken up about it as he let on to be. Then he broke free and Sauvage tried not to show her own disappointment. He said something about doing a good job, but it was difficult to hear since he was talking down to the ground. Then he looked back up with this mischievous smile that made Sauvage's heart skip a beat. Now it was her turn to kick at the ground awkwardly and mumbled, "You were pretty uhmazing, too."
Magnus () came over just in th nick of awkward. Sauvage smiled at him, realizing his voice was the other that she heard as she was falling. "Thank you, Magnus. I guess we are getting a lot of zee practice wiv zat spell today, huh?" And then Magnus mentioned Fade catching her and she couldn't stop herself from looking at him again.
"Zat catch was pretty amazing," she said to Fade. She sighed, her voice becoming plaintive. "I feel kind of lame, 'aving needed to be caught, Then again..." she made sure to make eye contact with Fade and smiled impishly. "At least I am not completely covered in mud."
He smiled, "appy to elp and all. Sides, Eros would cancel this workshop if someone else got 'urt..." his eyes showed he was kidding lightly. "I'll er... give you both space..." Subtle Magnus, he thought, subtle. He was glad they seemed to be getting a little more closer together. Maybe he should do a match making workshop--no that'd end in calamity--with flames and yelling and Magnus being carted off to prison...
