Before you get any tattoos, just make sure it's something you're going to want for the rest of your life! But, if it's something you love and will make you happy, then by all means, go for it! Before getting your tattoo, just do research on artists in your area. Artists have different styles, so make sure you pick at artist whose art you really enjoy. Go and talk to the artist about what you want. Show them pictures, show them where you want it on your body. Tell them how big you want it, or if you want color, or black and grey. Just do your research so you will be truly happy with it!
I got my first tattoo when I was 18, and it's an octopus on my foot. The feet are one of the most painful spots to get a tattoo. But, levels are pain are different for everyone, and different areas of the body hurt worse than other. I have another on my collarbone, and I plan on meeting with my artist soon so I can get my third tattoo. I'm eventually wanting to get a sleeve! But, one thing that helped me out while getting tattooed, is to take someone with you! They can help keep you distracted from the pain. Good luck!
My first tattoo was a red/black/white nautical star on my ankle. I was 18 at the time and my mother had to sign for me because SC is/was weird. They warned me that it was gonna be a tough spot to get my first, but it really didnt hurt like I thought it was going to, only towards the bottom of my foot was painful, but still not unbearable.
Really the only advice you need is do your research on artists. Don't try to be cheap, good tattoos cost money.
My first, I have six now, tattoo was the words 'Believe in fairytales' on my back and I love it now as much as I did five years ago!
I only have two at this moment, but my first tattoo, was one I have had been wanting for long time. A band Ive liked since I was like 13. Breaking Benjamin. I dont regret it. My second tattoo is the semicolon in shape of a cat. my third will be Luna and Artemis from Sailor moon, in shape of a yin and yang.
I actually agree. If someone is fine with a random tattoo, go for it. Mine have to have meaning just because they're permanent and without a meaning I probably would want to get rid of it and I'm not willing to go through the pain of laser to get it removed. I also agree about researching artists because that art will be on you permanently and well, if it's going to be on permanently, might as well go for the best.
At the moment I only have one tattoo which is this:
That was taken by the tattoo artist right after I got it so it's all healed up and perfectly fine now and is a reference to the Disney Peter Pan since I'm a big Disney person.
I want to get a reference to Le Petit prince for my second tattoo, probably of a fox with the eye quote, but in its original French.
It's on my back left shoulder area.
If you get your first tattoo PLEASE don't make the same mistakes I did! 1) Find an artist you like, even if that means a bit of travel. It's better to go a few miles away from home, than settling with an artist you don't like, or aren't comfortable with, 2) Research. Every artist has a speciality, make sure you find one that could work for you. In your case, I'd recommend an artist that does either photorealism (so they can copy the screenshot perfectly), American New School (their style is sorta anime-y already), or Watercolor (because a lot of anime backgrounds are watercolor, or watercolor affects). 3) Stand up for yourself. If your artist is showing you a sketch you don't like, TELL THEM. Do NOT let them put something on your body you don't absolutely love. 4) This ties in with 3, if your artist isn't willing to work with you, LEAVE. You may or may not get your deposit back (depends on the artist), but it's better to lose $60 than spending hundreds on something you absolutely regret and hate.
As you can guess by my four points above, I did none of that and now I have a tattoo I sometimes feel physically sick looking at. It's on my left ankle, so sometimes I forget it's there. It's not terrible, but it's also not what I wanted. Someday I can look at it fine, other likes stated above, I get sick looking at. This artist was supposed to be the "best in the area", so my sister and I thought nothing of it when we went to see him. He didn't tell us he wasn't good at fine details. He reassured us he could do it. Now my sister is looking into revisions, and I hate my ankle. He actually drew over the lines MULTIPLE times on mine, so you can see little stray lines here and there. On my sister's he basically gave her two blackout tattoos.
I plan on adding to it, so that should help make it look better. It's an anklet with a toggle clasp (the clasp is very important because that was one of the few things he got right). It currently has an octopus charm on it, but I plan on adding more. I'm not sure if I want to do life goals (adding a charm whenever I hit a milestone) or do aquatic/octopus themed (octopuses, squids, and cuttlefish are some of my favorite animals). My sister's, in case you are curious, as a bird on one ankle, and an anchor on the other, to symbolize keeping her head in the clouds, but her feet on the ground. Her bird is okay, but her ankle looks like it was done in sharpie and NOT well.
My name is Kira/Erik. I'm Nonbinary, and my pronouns are They/Ze. [flower=MusicEmo]
I can get along with the writers before me: Choose the artist carefully and check his background (what are his/her specialities, what is he mostly doing). Do not hesitate to cancel an appointment or start checking other artists, if you're not feeling well. Do also not hesitate to say "No" to the artist.
For my first tattoo I went to 3 different artists, and with the last one, I had a good feeling (even if I only made a pretty simple tattoo - I've got 4 wolf paws on my hip) and his work was perfect, I still love my first tattoo, after 10 years.
One of my friends got a cartoony skeleton cat on her calf, one got an artsy elephant on her ribs, one got some text on her arm, an ex got a hyrule tatto, and I haven't gotten any yet.
Some tattoos have a meaning and some don't. Nobody will know if your tattoo has meaning to you unless you tell them. Some people will judge you for having tattoos period. Some people will be snobby because you have a tattoo they don't approve of. As long as you like your tattoo that's all that matters.
There are some completely amazing anime tattoos out there. It's a perfectly valid tattoo choice and if it fits your style then go for it!
My first tattoo was a wolf on my back. I love it still, but it cost way too much money. My favorite tattoo is a warrior thigh tattoo. Lets see if I have a picture of it... Boom! This is when I first got it. I have a recent picture, but I am in a bathing suit and I dont know if that would be the best picture to post lol
I wanted to test the waters to see if i would enjoy having a tattoo or not. So i got a very small one in my ear. I love trees, so i wanted my first one to be simple but cool looking. My next tattoos will be meaningful and from my imagination. No wall tattoos for me!

You should try something small and easy to hide just in case you realize that tattoos arent for you, like i did. And then if you do like them, go nuts :p

i got my first tattoo when i was 18...back in the early 2000's..i won't say when...but yeah...i had gone through so many ideas in my teens as to what i wanted...at one point i was dead set on getting a giant kermit the frog up my right side....he was going to be dressed as a wizard and holding a crystal ball with miss piggy's head in it...oy....thankfully i never did that...when i was a 17 i got in a pretty bad car accident with a dear friend and we both came out unscathed. We decided to get matching tattoos...we both have a star over our left beast ...my point is...make sure you're dead set on what you want...thankfully i waited and waited and eventually realized i in no way wanted a kermit tattoo...so pick an idea...wait at least 6 months..and if you still want it...then go for it...i know tattoos aren't forever anymore..you can have them removed..but everyone i know who's gotten one removed said it hurt a million times worse then getting the tattoo to begin with..and it's also more expensive...so as i said...make sure you're ready and confident in what you want.
i currently have four, with more coming. That's the other thing...as soon as you're done and walking out of the tattoo shop..you'll realize that it wasn't what you expected and you'll immediately want more.

Just a few years ago, a brash mate kept mentioning for weeks she was going to get a tattoo. She never said what it was going to be. When she got it we met at the library and she asks me the loaded question, "Do you like my tattoo? :)"
When she just asked another friend and called them a hater for not liking it...
It was a huge flourished teal stars banner across her belly. 😫
She got rid of it in a week. Clearly it held no meaning and she just got one for the sake of getting one.
It's your body. Do what makes you happy. c:

I've gotten a few tattoos and my advice would be to wait to see if you still want that as a tattoo. However, spontaneous/ commemorative tattoos are always fun. Just do what you feel is right for you.
I think I have a pretty odd outlook on tattoos, because I'm not of the mind that you shouldn't ever get tattoos of fictional or fandom things that matter to you a lot-- because even if you fall out of love with the thing in future, it doesn't undo that it did matter that much to you at the time. My ink is an archive of who I have been as much as a reflection of my present. If I wanted to show off what I'm into right now I'd just wear a graphic T-shirt. (I'm being a bit glib, but you follow me.)
Of course, you always want to think long and hard about it, but if you (and judging by the dates in this thread, I assume OP has already made their decision, or isn't going to be swayed by the likes of me) want a tattoo of whatever stupid thing you want, and can afford to have it done well, your ink is as much my business as my ink is yours-- that is to say, it's really not. Just be confident in your choices-- you'll regret a 'deep and meaningful' tattoo you weren't sure on more than you'll regret a silly, fandom-y one that you were totally convinced of. P: If you're unsure enough that you have to ask other people if they think it's a good idea, you should ask yourself why you're unsure about it! As long as you're not getting matching name tattoos with a person you've been dating for two weeks, or, like, a hate-group symbol on your face, it's not really anyone's problem but yours.
Moreover, the "it has to have a Deep Meaning" always rubs me the wrong way, because let me tell you-- I've known people who've gotten Super Meaningful(tm) tattoos who regretted it sooner than later, because they came around on a few years down the line to think they were super cringy instead of deep, and I've known people who got tattoos that they just thought were freakin' sweet without any deeper meaning that they still don't regret.
(Disclaimer: I'm also of the "if we're not related by blood, we're not getting matching tattoos that I wouldn't get on my own, and absolutely no names, ever" opinion, so, you know.)
But the real answer to the question: My first two tattoos were both references to the MOTHER games (a simple text tattoo of the first game's marketing slogan -- "no crying until the end" -- and a Franklin badge. My brother has a matching one of the latter, because we're not going to stop being blood related any time soon. I don't regret either of them, though I think my wallet would be happier if I did, because ink is not cheap and I'd probably have a lot more money otherwise.
My first (and currently only) tattoo was the logo of my favorite artist's fan club. I'm not entirely happy with the work that was done, but the design itself will always mean a lot to me.
The next tattoo I want is a crescent moon "anklet". I'd also really like the waterbender logo somewhere, if I can find a decent place for it. There are a few other designs that I'd want, but I'm not super sure of the placement.
I'd say get whatever makes you happy! Just be sure it's something that speaks to you and reminds you of who you are when you need to be reminded. That, or it reminds you of someone or something that comforts you. It's gonna be with you for the rest of this life, so it should probably be something that puts you in a positive headspace whenever you see it.
My first was a small cross on my left foot's big toe. I did it myself because I have syncope with cardiac pause and was afraid that a tattoo shop wouldn't ink me due to medical liability, or, if they did, that I would pass out, an ambulance would be called, and it'd be a whole big mess.
While I joke a lot about my "prison tattoo" now (and it's still my favorite), I 100% wouldn't suggest others inking themselves. At least not without actual equipment and training.
I got 7 tattoos after that... still all small, all in a shop while in a foreign country where I knew my medical issues wouldn't be considered a liability. xD Still happy with all of them, although some of my super small ones are already starting to look "smudgy" after 4 years because of the large needle that was used.
As others have said, just make sure that it's something you won't mind having later. Or that you have a mindset of "it shows where I was at that point in my life" and don't think your mindset will change over time.
i got my first tattoo when i was 16, a few months after getting out of a really abusive relationship. it's a latin quote that translates to "she is tossed by waves but does not sink" on my collarbone. 4 years and 7 tattoos later i'm still so happy i got it.
i don't think tattoos need to have deep meaning, i'd say a majority of mine don't! but definitely think long and hard about what you do want, because i'm sure you already know that they're permanent lol.
good luck! :)
so my first tattoo was the royal saiyan emblem! And my second? Shenron! I agree with , I don't think there needs to be some deep meaning to a tattoo. I think what matters is what YOU like and what YOU will be happy with.

I have no tattoos. i don't think i'll ever get one [im scared of needles, lol] if i were to get one, it would be a symbol - yin/yang type of thing -
I saw many pics online with tattoos that were more like a painting, and with a food artist, i think it could look amazing. but just like everyone else said before me, wait it out some more [even if you have the $$ for it] to make sure you still like it. you could have it painted on your body to see what it looks like as well - what if you don't like what it looks like?
that bunny tattoo is gorgeous! imo a bit big, but who am i to judge? lol ;) i really like the style though.
I really have to update my blog ObscureJourney and my review site BeingObscure. French speakers can read my reviews here.
