Yeah, I get what you mean. I think it's just easier for people to understand things in a more black and white sort of way. Like you, I feel like as long as they aren't being rude or an asshole, I'm fine with what they call me. I honestly can't get mad at people for referring to me as my assigned gender if I don't tell them beforehand what my preferred pronouns are. And I do understand that for people like my assistant teacher who aren't really familiar with the ideas of genderfluid/genderqueer/non-binary it can seem really confusing. That's why, a lot of times, when she calls me the wrong pronoun for instance when she says something like ,"girl, I had one hell of a weekend", I don't correct her. I know that 1.) she means no disrespect and 2.) that's part of her speech patterns...she calls everyone girl, including her boyfriend.
LOL! My general manager has the same speech pattern and knows that I'm genderqueer. She starts everything with "Giiiiirrrrrrl" so now I respond with "Dude, bro, man, fella" etc. I find it humorous because she's the most likely in the building to refer to me as the more masculine Rob than the unisex Robin. You're definitely not alone, I think we're on a rather similar boat!
With my assistant teacher, every once in a while she'll catch herself. She'll correct herself and say something like "sorry. Dude...." and we both have one of those "no harm, no foul" kind of laughs about it. Since I'm not out to everyone at work except her, she generally just refers to me by name rather than by pronouns.
You know, it was pride this weekend where I'm from, and I worked through the weekend and didn't wear any pride stuff at work because fear of having to explain to my co-workers! I'm glad I saw this thread so I can talk about it at some capacity while pride's still on my mind. I don't know the right word for the way I feel (usually I say I'm genderqueer), but I use a mix of all the commonly accepted pronouns* (she/they/he). I don't really feel like a girl (as I was assigned) or a boy, though I like using the word boy to refer to myself. I'm pretty femme. My partner's nb as well. She also uses multiple pronouns, she being the one people struggle the most to use for her, so that's the one I usually go with so she gets to hear it on a regular basis along with he/they.
This world (at least where I'm from, and in many other places) was built for those who fit into the binary idea of gender. If you're nb it can be so hard! If you're nb and fighting to have your identity respected, don't give up! One day the world will change perspective and being nb won't be such a rare or misunderstood experience.
Thanks for making this thread! All of you are loved~
*I say this because I know there are other pronouns out there that are valid, though the struggle to have them used is so real! If you use those pronouns, don't give up the fight to have your identity and chosen words respected!
I identify with my biological gender, as a woman, but not in aspect. I hate all things feminine and sometimes use male avatars on avatar sites. I've been addressed by male pronouns online and it's just the nature of it, that it's an assumption and inconsiderate that bothers me. It is my belief that you should always use 'they'/'them'/'their' if the individual doesn't specify their preference(see how I just did it).
Is that non-binary?
im nb! i really want to buy a binder but i dont have the money right now. i dont mind female pronouns but sometimes being female/seen as female makes me really anxious and stressed out. especially in public, i dont like being looked at and stuff.
i'm nb as well! if i had to pick labels, genderfluid and androgynous suit me best. i like being referred to as they/them!

it's non-binary if you want it to be, basically. i know there are people out there who id as "non-binary women", not entirely sure how it works myself but i do know gender works how you want it to. so basically, whatever you're most comfortable id-ing as.
also, hi all, i'm half demiboy half demigirl over here, he/him pronouns usually tho i don't mind whatever, and i will refer to my alter as she, he just won out on our system overall.
Heyyo!! I'm Genderqueer! I prefer Two-Spirit, but having to explain to everyone that I'm Choctaw AND Scandinavian gets tiresome, so I usually refer to myself as GQ. I'll use the pronouns they/them, but I seem to like it better when people say that one/this one. It's kinda an oddball thing, but it makes me feel more comfortable.
It's wonderful to meet other enby's, as well!!
