The users who also follow Subeta on Facebook might have seen it, but a couple of hours ago a CW was advertised there.

I was absolutely stoked, because it is a CW that has been on my wishlist for over a year and I assumed it had become available again. Not so. When you click the link it directs you to the CW shop page where it states that you need a password to buy the CW as it is locked. My excitement deflated like a balloon right there and then.

Why would Subeta advertise something that is unavailable for 99,9% of their own userbase? It seems very contraproductive to me and not at all inviting to get into CW's or to "try and save the market".

Can someone explain to me what the idea was behind the Facebook post?

Edit: Just to be clear, I do not mind the CW is friends only. What I do mind is that it is being advertised to a userbase who cannot actually purchase the item. I just do not see the point in it.

Kind of hilarious no one bothered to check this before advertising these items with all the CW drama going on right now.

Well, staff doesn't support "private" CW status in the first place so I can see how they just plain wouldn't necessarily know. I do agree that it could be checked (since the same thing happened with a CW Shop sale one time, a private item was put in the news post because items were just pulled randomly from the shops).

But also, that item was one of three recolors that had unlimited public slots for 24 hours when it was released so it's not actually even private, just that whatever leftover copies there were from the last batch aren't publicly available after the 24-hour period. The item had close to 3 batches filled so it's not really even unobtainable (maybe harder because people do collect Harry Potter CWs but not impossible)

I agree that the item in question is not a super-private or anything. But I missed the 24hr release of the item and I have not seen many for trade afterwards. I might have just missed them as I do not have the time to browse the r200 on a daily basis.

However, imagine that you are a new user or new to CW's. Then you missed the release and might not even know the item existed. You see it advertised on FB and think it is nice and click the linkt to purchase it... Bit of a letdown to then see it locked. Also, there are so many CW's available, it cannot be that difficult to advertise one that can be bought without restrictions?

I just wish they would have thought this through a bit, especially with all the fuss that is going on. :)

Oh wow, this is hilarious! XD I didn't catch this before, because I don't go on Facebook everyday.

Seriously Subeta, if you're going to try to generate interest in CWs, don't show a private. There's so many public CWs that would make for good showcases. Perhaps do one that is public and has an unlimited amount next time.

But they were posting it because it was a favorite of theirs? So now they cannot like privates? I could see being mad if they were saying HEY YOU SHOULD BUY THIS CW NOW or something but they are literally posting favorites.

Haha, wow.

At the very least it kind of directly illustrates how complex and opaque the CW process is and how many unspoken rules potentially influence each CW. Say someone new or unfamiliar with the CW forums clicked on the link.

How would they know it was available for 24 hours and now is not? Or was batch limited or not? Or will be released in a limited fashion for a particular holiday? Or had any one of a number of commonly accepted but not well communicated guidelines affecting its availability? Or that it was more of a fan link instead of an ad link? Is the seller prepared for 1389237 messages about "why can't I buy that one thing in your shop?" Would the user actually have the patience to investigate and ask and search the forums, or would they be likely to give up and think "no more CW's for me, then?"

I don't really know how the whole process could be communicated in easily accessible or understandable ways, but finding ways to codify and clarify the CW market rules would definitely help new folks get excited about it rather than discouraged by it.

Like maybe have a couple of fields available in the shop where people can explain whatever rules apply to the CW.

I never claimed 'they' could not like privates or that I am 'mad' about this. I am disappointed at what seems a poorly executed idea to draw interest to CW's. And to me, and obviously also the other people who commented on the Facebook post, it was an advertisement for the CW. The post clearly missed its target then?

Actually, I do not know what would bother me more. A silly mistake in advertising a CW that is private or actually flaunting it in our faces that it is a personal favourite but "haha, you cannot have it!".

man, this post here, so much. I've never been able to get "into" CWs, not only for the sheer cost of it but that there's so many unspoken rules and release types and passwords and group-only and etc etc etc...

heck, it's not even just the "community rules", it's the actual guidelines too. last I checked the CW submission page didn't even /mention/ that it costs money to make a CW (was looking into it, vaguely remembered something about it costing money from ages ago, and had to dig through the forums without the search function to even get that yes, they do, then again look to find a post on /how much/ it actually costs)

That's a fail. I'm laughing and I have legit tears in my eyes.

Why would you PROMOTE a custom wearables if it's locked in shop? I don't mind if they mentionned "We really like this background made by X". But please, don't send a direct link to it - especially if you don't know the status of it. That's rubbing salt in the wound.

also what if users don't want their CWs being featured as 'favorites' on the facebook page? what if they're shy and don't want sudden attention or people messaging them, either to inquire about the item or just to congratulate them? what if it's a personal item that they don't really want to flaunt? like, ok, it's cute that you wanna 'compliment' users by showing off the neat things they create, and encourage the purchase of their items... but they didn't ask you to do so. maybe i'm the only one who thinks so but it just feels a little like a violation of privacy 😐

I think that'd be something they sacrifice when they submit the item to be made into a CW

It's not like the user had their facebook page linked did they?

no, just a direct link to the item in their shop. and sure technically subeta 'owns' the items, and it's fine to want to show it off as a "favorite" (actually just a transparent attempt to encourage people to buy CWs). but it's the user who controls when and where and to whom it is sold, so it seems a little odd to just be throwing that link around on the facebook page.

So if the item had been public, would that have been fine to link directly to their shop? I guess I just don't understand what's so bad. it's not like that facebook ad went viral and now that user has to deal with thousands of people.
