My favorite treat is "rabanada" (I found that it's called "french toast", but ours is pretty different from what I found under the "french toast" category) :P Not sure if it's a holiday treat around the world, but here in Brazil it's pretty seasonal.

recipe

  • Any bread (commonly 1 long bread)
  • 2 teacups of milk
  • 1 can of condensed milk
  • 3 eggs (beaten at the omelet point)
  • cinnamon
  • sugar
  • any vegetal oil (preferentially sunflower oil)

In a bowl, mix the milk and condensed milk. In another bowl, mix the eggs with a little bit of cinnamon. Cut the bread, dip it in the milk bowl, then in the egg bowl. Fry it in the oil it's brown/brass-like and let it drain on a napkin. Then pour a mix of sugar and cinnamon. Serve hot or put in the fridge to ser it cold.

Any syrup or condensed milk can be poured on the "rabanadas", mainly it's used condensed milk or molten chocolate/nutella with whip cream not whipped.

[edit]This doesn't affect the post, but after seeing some peppermint treats, I realized I don't even know what's peppermint, I guess we don't have it here lol Even candycanes aren't found in Brazil. The copies I found once were strawberry-flavored '-'

Day 5: Sugar cookies or any cookies:)

We use Alton Brown's recipe love it! Ours are never this pretty. I love decorating them, and never can wait long enough for them to cool. I'm like they are kinda cool, and then attempt to decorate and the frosting looks kinda okay and then I realize half the batch has melted.

My favorite holiday treat is kringlas. It's a norwegian cookie of the best kind. My dad makes them just about every year. And they are so sweet and buttery. I love being able to taste my heritage.

My favorite holiday treat is Pionono (also called Arrollado)! :D Since we celebrate Christmas in summer, we eat fresh food, such as salads, arrollados, empanadas, etc :D

The sorrounding dough is very soft and it can be either mildly sweet (which is my favorite) or salty. It can be filled with anything you'd like!

The ones we prepare at home are Arrollado of ham, cheese, tomato and cream cheese, and Arrollado of tuna, eggs and cream cheese. Pepper and other seasonings are welcome, of course!

^ This is the tuna one (I think this one has olives as well!)

^ And this is the ham and cheese one :D

They are very, very yummy 😍

Day 5

My favorite holiday treats are flavored oyster crackers.
Recipe: 1 pkg of oyster crackers 1 dry packet of ranch dressing mix olive oil

Heat oven up to 350. Place oyster crackers, ranch mix in large bowl and drizzle with olive oil. Not too wet! Then spread on a cookie sheet and bake in oven until slightly brown. Cool and then place in containers or zip lock bags. You can also make these spicy by adding chili powder to the mix or your favorite spices.

Life is short... Count your Blessings, Love your family and friends and lend a helping hand whenever you can!

For today’s entry we want to know about your favorite holiday treat!

Honestly, one that I'm not sure if it exists everywhere, or how is it called. But it became, thanks to great marketing, a classical of christmas in my country.

I love matzah brie with a little bit of sugar and grape jelly. SO delicious! It's a childhood favorite that my mom used to make all the time! I have to resist the urge to eat half a box worth of matzah in one sitting haha! It's essentially broken up matzah, soaked in egg, fried, and sprinkled with whatever you want. We use sugar and grape jelly but my brother in law's family is from Vermont and they use maple syrup. I prefer the jelly over maple syrup. Nom nom nom!

Day 5: My favourite christmas treats are self made butter cookies and gingerbread cookies covered with chocolate. I also like hot chocolate (with nature cocoa without any other ingredients and honey, the smell is so good and the taste.). And i love potatoe salad with a filled chicken. It's a tradition in my family on christmas day <3

Ahhh, I hope it doesn't have to be a sweet treat! Although it's Christmas tradition in my family to have cinnamon rolls and eggnog for breakfast on Christmas morn ing, that's not what I'm here to tell you about. YUMASETTA. OMG IT'S THE BEST It's a casserole that my mom has been making since I was a kid and it's AMAZING. So, traditionally, you brown some ground beef in brown sugar, and you layer that, cheddar cheese, onion, egg noodles, cream of chicken soup, and tomato soup together. I've since become vegetarian (and then pescetarian and now transitioning back to vegetarian), though, so my recipe is a little bit different.

Instead of ground beef, we use some kind of imitation beef, made of veggies or soy. My brand of choice is morningstar farms. The cream of whatever soup can be pretty much anything. I've had it with cream of broccoli or celery, I'm using onion this Christmas, and I'm sure if you really wanted to, potato would work as well. This year, we discovered that replacing the egg noodles with cooked broccoli and cauliflower works just as well as the noodles, but the casserole ends up a bit more soupy when it's fresh. It'll set by the time it cools, though, so leftovers are perfect.

Since it uses so many ingredients, we pretty much ONLY make this for holidays. This was my Thanksgiving meal this year, it will be our Christmas meal, and it will probably be my birthday meal next month as well. Lots of people say it sounds super weird when you first tell them about it... Then they taste it, and they're just as hooked as my family is.

Recipe and photos here!

edit: o this got long. seriously though everyone must try this, it's the most delicious dinner EVER

Day 5. My favourite holiday treats are the pies that my Grandpa puts together. He makes cherry cheesecake, some kind of berry cheesecake (it used to be blueberry but I think he got confused and started getting some kind of berry mix), and pecan pie. I used to love my Grandma's banana pudding but she passed away a few years ago and I haven't had it since... It was so delicious...

I think my favorite treat is truffles, because they bring a smile when I give them out in treat sacks. But, the special childhood moments making fudge and spritz cookies with my late Mom make me miss the little camel on the cookie press. I kept the pan she made fudge in so, she will always be there in every batch I make.

Honestly, I'm not able to decide which one is my favorite treat. There are so many seasonal sweets, cookies and cakes that you start drowning in them already in early September when they are put on display :'D

I really love "Stollen" (even though I'm not too fond of raisins) and "marzipane nougat trunks"
