I'm sad for you guys that you couldn't stay longer :( And yeah, I can understand where both your dad and her are coming from. You want to think it's all gonna work out, but if the surgery is that risky, I can understand her hesitance. Being blind isn't the end of the world (though it will be an adjustment), but having to remove an eye would be awful if it went badly. And facing the disappointment of going through all of that and then it just not working would also be a low blow on top of everything else.

Dad wants to help her more, especially with her lack of sight and while I told him that I do understand where he is coming from, where everyone is coming from with that, I also told him that if he tried to take over doing everything for her it would only hinder her in long run. Mind you, he is still deadset on her having the surgery which may or may not work IF the doctor decides she ought to have it and not leave it be instead.

It is good to spoil oneself here and there.......you know, one of the reasons I decided to do this sp goal-thingy is due to the fact that at least 97% of the things on my wishlist are bloody expensive XD If I had billions of sp, 38,000 for one item would look like "chump-change" :P

It sucks, but we plan on going back there before the trip to Ghana. It would hopefully increase her spirits, and perhaps even Dad's, as her losing her sight is deeply disturbing him--or rather, it was a deep shock and sadness for him and he is at a loss for how to make things better, although he says he is going to ask one of his friends for the number of a really good eye surgeon that they had gone to. Reminding him about the 50/50 chance of it working and the other issues....I don't think he is really hearing me on that.

Um...why is he opposed to her having surgery for her glaucoma? A resident of mine, who was 85 at the time had eye surgery for cataracts, not only did she recover well but she now has 20/20 vision...85 Darling and StepMum is in her middish 50's? Does he have that much clout with her that she'd not have the surgery at your Da's say so? What are the odds of the glaucoma being reversed by the procedure? Also is this her GP recommending it or the Surgeon? If its the Surgeon I can understand your Dad's point, surgeons will always say the Surgery is essential
