Being UK based I tend to forget Thanksgiving until you guys mention it! Hopefully that will be a nice holiday. I am quite lucky, as most of our family members live in two areas and they're only about 40 mins drive apart, so it's a bit easier.

I am not sure about doing much other than the usual weekly food shop on Black Friday, some folks here have started taking it WAY too seriously and that to me takes the fun out of bargain hunting.

Yeah, it's such a balancing act with what's still on Netflix etc and trying not to spend 24/7 watching TV for fear it'll be taken off! Is that the new Father Brown with Mark Williams? I wasn't sure about that at first, as he's more known for comedy in this country, but it's been quite enjoyable.

It's true, it's very easy to be online and find plenty to fill up your time.
I think that's one reason I like read to non fiction as well, the learning new stuff aspect.

Hopefully if you skip adding the tree that might be enough to avoid getting involved in that side of things. Friends and family holidays are always a lot of fun, be they online or IRL. I have met such lovely folks in both realms!

I've always had that problem. I'm a computer person, so once I turn it on I find hours and hours go by before I realize it. LOL

Nope - somehow no one seems to pay attention to the fact that I don't put a tree there. And there's no good place to put any sort of message about it. Guess I'll just have to comment all my friends soon (but after Thanksgiving at least) and let them know what I'm thinking. (sigh) Subeta is the most inclusive site I know, but even here Luminaire can be a lot to deal with if you don't happen to celebrate Christmas. And it is hard to explain when you also don't want to spoil even a little of the much anticipated fun for anyone else. I have given up trying to work out some things with technology, it'll either work or not and that's about all we can hope for.

I think the British Murder show was in 3 parts, if I recall, and the book was made to accompany it.

Possibly my worst 'online for too long' time was in my teens - I think I was eating at the computer and maxed out at 14 hours of doing 'stuff'. Not a clue what that stuff was. Not done that again!

It's funny about learning in general; my niece is six and it is odd how she knows stuff I wouldn't think she'd know - if that makes sense. And how matter-of-fact little kid learning is.
If only we could channel that though later school years too...

Well, considering that I have an MS in math and computer science and spent years working as a software developer (I helped write the software for the first release of cellular phone service in the US), I have a slightly different outlook on at least some technology. :-) I'm not a hardware type, but the ones I worked with did teach me a few useful things.

Yes - looks like three parts on BBC and a book. I have the first online video bookmarked and the book marked down to try and borrow from the library. :-)

Well, we used to spend pretty much all day on the computers at work, and then sometimes stay to play games on them after work. And, of course, I spent a lot of time on the computers while getting my degree. And now I still find that if I sit down to do one little thing on a computer (like visit the Bathhouse, LOL) I then find at least a dozen other things to do - like other things on Subeta, or checking Facebook, or watching a video (or a three part BBC video - :-) ) or paying bills, or checking my bank account, or comparison shopping for something I need or ... or ... or ... and the next thing I know it can be tomorrow. And now I spend a good part of every day on the computer doing various things even when I do remember to take breaks. That's one of the reasons that, before the Bathhouse, I used to take computer break days where I didn't turn it on at all - every once in a while. Sometimes even for a few days in a row. But of course, now that would break my Bathhouse streak.

I think some people do. (I know a few "trivia" experts.) And I almost always enjoyed learning at school all the way through college - (although I could have done without things like final exams - even when I was more than ready for them).

I could - but I'm not sure it would help any. I'd need to put an explanation of some sort and I doubt anyone would look. It's not that it makes me angry or anything. It's just not my holiday and not something I want to scramble to keep up with. It just isn't worth all the stress it caused last year. I think I'll add a reference to the Empty Trees Group to whatever personal comments I send though - that's a great idea (and I love the poem!).

I know - your poems are a lot of fun. You have a talent for them.

Oh dear, I am contributing to the online all the time problem, sorry! 😄 It's true though, so much of life these days is conducted online or on computers, I think it will be the norm for future generations, if not the ones growing up already. My niece is probably move knowledgeable than me about youtube and catch up TV! Luckily only with her parents supervision!

Much as I love learning I don't recall stuff very fast. I say my other half has "geek knowledge" as he has fast and pretty accurate recall of info. Good at quiz show questions, that kind of thing.

Huzzah for poem power! Guess you can only ask and hopefully that'll avoid too much coming through. Yeah, not everyone is into every holiday, that's just how it is. Because my family/ friends have a lot of parties and silly events in real life, I like having them online too - it seems quite natural.
