The thing is by not denouncing the hate crimes being done in his name to any minority he is in some respects silently endorsing them.

He needs to actively not endorse them because even if they're extremists and they're not the norm they've also been emboldened because of his rhetoric. Yet, he's done nothing. I'm scared as someone who's Chinese-American and female. I have friends who are scared because they're part of the LGBT+ Community. He needs to reassure people this won't become the norm if he's president and he hasn't.

Half of Trump supporters would rise up and protest any actions that endanger American rights. I know I would...

Ok but like it shouldn't even be half? IT SHOULD BE ALL AMERICANS that rise up to and protest actions that endanger American rights, no matter what kind of American they are and no matter who is being harmed. But you know, most of them only protest when the rights in question are relevant to them.

I'm a Trump supporter. I voted for him, and I stand by my choice. Don't assume that it means I support hatred, racism, and bigotry. I am a woman who supports individuals of all races. I support Muslims and their right to practice their religion. ... I will quietly disagree with LBGT+ individuals, but I'm certainly not going to actively oppress them. I DO support tighter border control and deportation of ILLEGAL immigrants - I emphasize ILLEGAL. Those who enter the country through the proper channels are more than welcome in our country.

Right now the only fear I have is that I am 20 miles away from a place where anti-Trump protesters have taken to destroying their city and hurting their fellow human beings all because their candidate didn't win. When I turn on the news, all I see is coverage about arson, assault, and vandalism done to protest "hate".

Overall, I'm looking forward to seeing what President Trump will do for this country. I think good things are in store for us. :D

To paraphrase a comment I've seen and agree with - not all Trump supporters are racist, xenophobic, or haters, that's true. But every single Trump supporter at some point decided that the blatant racism, xenophobia, and hate was not a dealbreaker. A vote for Trump, for whatever reason it was made, supports what he stands for which is all of the above. He's not shy about it. That's the hardest part for me, because people treat that part as NBD.

I'm really tempted to ask how old you are (you don't have to answer, of course, just wondering!), because most of the news today is about the plan for the future and the possible appointments to the administration. If you look and research, it's a deep bench of very Republican Republicans, many of whom served alongside GW and even farther back than that. If you were old enough to be familiar with GW's terms, you'll probably have an idea of how things will look because their plans are pretty much the same as they were back then.

Those who voted for Trump expecting "change" are likely going to be surprised, unless they're wanting standard Republican boilerplate. Also there will probably be a whole lot of surprise at where we do end up.

I've been trying hard not to write anything, but I just can't help it when it comes to the Electoral College. I have zero intentions of debating this with anyone on the board as I don't want us to get into trouble. :C Because that would suck. If anyone wants to contact me about this, please do so via smail as it's open and I'll respond asap (what with the site errors and all lol T_T). Thank you. n__n

The Electoral College is supposed to safeguard the presidency from candidates who aren't qualified. It's supposed to be a safety measure against the vote of the people.

What's ironic here is Trump lost the popular vote but won the election because the Electoral College exists to safeguard the presidency against people like himself.

If that doesn't make anyone laugh from irony, I don't know what will.

Now I'm not saying it should not vote for him on December 19th purely because Clinton won the popular vote. Because it exists to safeguard against popular unqualified candidates. Trump could have won the popular vote and I'd still be rooting for the college to not vote for him solely on the grounds of him not being qualified.

We're already seeing him seesaw with Obamacare and on twitter - the protests themselves.

The reason anyone flip flops so easily on decisions is because they don't have a solid stance on an issue. I think anyone should be worried how quickly he changes his opinions / decisions. He's essentially an opinionated puppet who is easily swayed by more senior / expert opinions. What happened to being against Washington insiders? Why is he okay with a Washington insider team all of a sudden? All talk, no show. If I voted for him with Obamacare being a key issue, I'd be feeling a tad abandoned right now.

If the Electoral College votes him in, it's literally not doing its job right, because it's hard to imagine a candidate more unqualified for the job. If the electors vote him in, there's literally no point to even having an Electoral College. (edit: And no, tradition or "because it's always been like that in elections and there's no point to change" aren't good enough excuses. No one should have to settle for that answer anywhere for anything.)

I'm seeing a lot of arguments for the Electoral College to vote against him solely on the basis of the popular vote, but that's exactly why the college exists. I don't care if they vote for Clinton or just don't vote. They just need to not elect him. Yes, it's never been done. Yes, it would be unprecedented, but Trump IS unprecedented, so that excuse is moot. We haven't had to consider a candidate unqualified for a very, very long time if ever. While George Bush wasn't everyone's cup of tea in 2000 when he lost the popular vote against Al Gore there really wasn't any reason for the Electoral College to go -- "hang on a sec, this guy isn't qualified." They shouldn't have gone - "Well, wait a sec. Al Gore won more votes." That's not the point of the Electoral College. The question will be is the candidate fit enough for the job?

Except you do. Passive support still equals support.

And since the man literally has no plans for anything, and ran his entire platform based almost solely on hatred, racism, and bigotry... Well, the hell else are his supporters voting for, then?

Sorry not sorry;

A disabled bi woman who lives well below the poverty level and whose safety, well-being, and even life you feel comfortable endangering by voting for the most egregiously unqualified, virulently hateful candidate ever fielded by any political party in US history.

(And yes, that means even less qualified than Vermin Supreme and Gary Johnson.)

You are an extremist, and you are fueled by unnecessary fear. You are speaking to your "opposition" with exaggerations and lies that you believe to be true. This will be my last response on this forum because it went from a simple election discussion to posters like you classifying 60 million people as racists, sexists, and xenophobes.

You do not understand his platform nor do you wish to. You are trapped in a perfect PC utopia that anyone who doesn't formulate sentences kissing the feet of various groups is the anti-christ.

You think he's unqualified? The only qualifications for presidents are as followed: Over the age of 35, Lived in America for the past 14 years, and is a natural-born citizen. He is perfectly qualified? Hell, in a couple years, I will be qualified, and I work as a cashier in a 99 cent store.

Feel free to PM me for your response and to continue this conversation. This goes to anyone. Have a great day and eat an apple.

Since I'm not American I overall don't understand why things are (and stay) as they are. Like the electoral votes system (why not finally change that and elect the one with the most votes? - in my world the one with the most votes IS actually the one people chose and actually want). But overall, after all the shock and insecurity I think this election finally shows that there is something going terribly wrong with our society, with our world. If a clown full of hatred and stereotype mindset, with such an ugly out- and especially inside get's one of the most important people in this world... I seriously fear for the future of mankind. I absolutely wouldn't mind and would just raise an eyebrow about the whole thing if this election wouldn't have an effect on the whole world. And I don't think that most people that voted just thought one second about that fact.
