I agree that the participation prize isn't necessary, but it also has to do with the nature of this contest. It's very easy to do a bad drawing in a couple of minutes and enter it. But past contests have involved other things like pumpkin carving or something else that you actually have to do something for.
Or they've been HA contests, which are also easy to do something quickly, but more people actually like creating cool HAs so are more willing to devote some time to it.
So I don't think this will always be an issue in the future, it depends on how easy the contest is to enter. But the prizes will end up in the Millionaire Center anyway, so there's that.
Hello! There have been some good suggestions here for future contests, but to clear things up, we will not be removing entries based on time or effort.
With that being said, we've gone through the entries again and removed those that were not following the rules (as in not creating something themselves) from further voting.
By not creating something themselves, we're referring to what was discussed in this news post:
If you see any others like this, file a ticket and let us know there. Thank you!
As another suggestion, next time could you guys put rules like that in the news post itself or on the submission page? I guess it's fair to say something like that should have been assumed, but not everyone reads the comments on news posts and they may not have known that was actually a rule. Especially since I don't think it was specified anywhere else.
"You will still receive a participation prize, but your entry can no longer be voted on."
Why would you still give out prizes to disqualified entries? Doesn't that just encourage people to submit crap in the future for freebies?

Maybe they're doing it this time because they botched the rules by not making things clear in the news post and submission page.
Hopefully in future contests they have everything laid out so people can't claim they didn't know about it.
....we can't see the entries if we've already voted, so...???
I do wish there was a way to see the entries still, for this purpose for one, and two, as a way to see what entries we did vote for.
I feel sorry for the people who put effort into their entries whoes entries might not actually get voted for. There are so many to slog through that a lot of people probably gave up early on meaning entries near the end of someone's list don't get votes even if they are good. Also, I am rather annoyed at some of the entries just taking the mick. I am aware that no one knew how the voting was going to work (one entry per page) but it certainly makes me annoyed every time I see one of those joke entries. Every time I see a box of cereal or something like that I'm annoyed that it's delaying my voting for entries that are worthwhile. This also then makes me feel a bit mean because I know they were only trying to make me chuckle with their entry for the participation prize (rather than just drawing a square and calling it a day) and that they didn't know that a ton of other people would do the exact same thing which then makes the voting process even longer. The voting system has definitely sapped some of the fun (and funniness) out.
Hopefully, next time there will be a balance between the all-of-the-entries-at-once-oh-nooo-page-crashes and one-at-a-time?!-I'm-going-to-be-here-forever!!! methods.
Just because something is funny doesn't mean its a "joke entry", worthless, or only for the participation prize.
I just logged onto my laptop and I have things to vote on again. Either my entire voting history just reset, or downvoted entries are saved locally in a cookie? Either way this is a mess. I had a few entries left to go through, and now I'm apparently starting from scratch.
