On the bright side, v3.5 or whatever it's called does have hex input! ... it's just a question of when we'll see it implemented on the site. SOON.
I did not coin the phrase.. someone on SF did some time ago, I think. ;) But, yes, you pose a good question... but, maybe, 'man-taur' ... emphasis on the 'tore' sound!
Looking for
- ooh i did not know that, and i commend your optimism! (also that HA is looking great)
Haha I thought we might get it by Morostide as y'know, dressing up is such a big part of the holiday. Oh well, maybe Morostide 2017 hah. :P
And thank you! My aesthetic tends to be more refined and I don't really tend to do busy stuff, but I like how the parts have all fit together here. I want to streamline the midsection a tad more but have been fiddling most of the morning, not sure what direction its headed tbh.
Ah I am so late to the critiques, I completely forgot to subscribe to the thread and didn't check in xP
ANYWAYS! I learned a great trick to trick the hex code input from <3 It's not possible to input the hex code in the Hair and High/Lowlights area, but in the streaks! Just select a streak, copy/paste your hex code. Then select the area you want and just move it a tiny bit so that it takes your hex. VOILA! Just a bit tweaking is necessary. It's not an ideal working solution but it's better than guessing as this is way more frustrating trying to find your spot again than just copy pasting what you were already working on~
That's great! Your optimism is refreshing. I hope you're right.
That's way better than my idea. My first thought sounded... vaguely dirty. :x
Thank you for the tip! It definitely sounds faster than what I was doing. I wonder why it only works for the streaks?
It's very weird that this one works. I believe the script has a bug in the streaks that makes it work at least a bit how it is supposed to, as you can't even manually type in the hex code as well. I just hope the new wardrobe version is more tested and we get a nice, working hair salon ;_;; but yeah, this trick makes salooning a bit less frustrating.
Any sort of Style critiques? I know some of my HAs aren't the best, but hey that's why I'm here! for improvement! Link to SF Styles
Are some of mine too simplistic?
This is late but overall I'd say you're using a lot of the same color but with clashing tints - ex. Kitsune II, and Havarr Scarf, you're using like 4 different shades of red/orange alone that kind of clash. It's like how, IRL, redheads have to find specific shades of red that look good on them. With Moon Bunny and Aurora Gangster, none of the accessories match, so it doesn't seem like there's a cohesive theme - gold beld with silver and bead bracelets, bunny ears with the nazar eyes, neither really go together. The pants/shoes are distracting, but otherwise I love the concept of Feathery. Moon Bunny also is really well matched, I would just add more of a transition between the greener shades of blue (arm drape, nazar) kind of like Frenchi does here. Different tints of colors can work well together (example idk I really like frenchi's stuff), it just takes some finesse. All in all keep on making stuff and post in the critique/etc threads in the HA forum too! I've gotten really good feedback there from some of the harsher people.
Hellooooo I'm also interested in critique for my current HA. Just fuck me up fam. (but I'm especially looking for shoe/chest/waist area advice. I'm so not used to working with colors.
YO idk if anyones still interested in feedback, but like i have time and thought i'd give it a go in giving you guys some suggestions? i use a lot of ??? im srry
i wouldn't worry about simplicity because it's not a bad thing, mainly because you clearly have ideas here and you are aware of colours and how to distribute them through an HA, because refinement is really a way of simplifying things in order to get something great out of it. also, i'm interested in what you mean by simplicity, do you mean the items you're using or something else?? i think i want to hear more of what you mean by that as i do see the beginnings of something in what you've already made, before trying to point you in another direction or attempt to give further ramblings of advice wheeze
generally speaking this HA is going somewhere!! though i think the silhouettes a bit heavy, not because of the sleeves and the headpiece but because the leg items you have are piling up and thickening the lines. i can see why the tunic works but more because of the way its drawn, you can see it peeking from under the sleeves and that probably contributes to the heaviness, the little bit of negative space that would provide a balance gets smaller and kinda "blobs" the whole thing if that makes sense. i know that its a pretty good match for the colours and it might be fixed with a bit of fiddly layering with a wig or a hair style that would cover it but then again, sleeves. or perhaps find something thats a bit more tapered by basically clicking 34692834 hours in the wardrobe to fine The One.
i do like the bit of ombre effect from the tunic into the legs though, but i think you can get away with lighter legs and darker footwear, honestly if you cant find something in the exact colour you want, the donna flats/base/mariachi ankle boots is always a gr8 combo to fall back on, also it gives the illusion of longer legs, and the thick outline won't stand out as much. i think you can also make the gold henna on the ankles a bit subtler, because you've already got that detail in the sleeves that fall from shoulder to ground, it doesn't need to be so overt and bright, (you can do that with the shoes instead, perhaps ? tho the colour might not be right) so you can layer it under some tights to just give it a hint or even do away with them completely! you could also try the bonfire ankle tatts, the shape is a lot more similar but they are a bit more orange and because the majority of the in the HA leans more towards are brassy yellow gold than something so warm toned. THOUGH!! as i was typing i just remembered which can echo the details you have in the teeth of the headpiece, the necklace and the dotted the of the tunic. if you do want something that can distribute bits of gold or give the illusion of it, is basically god tier but i also say that cause i love to slap that on everything whenever i want that highlight.
the chest area is really tricky though, maybe a change in which colour you want to use mainly in that area, the turquoise blue i think is already distributed evenly with the sleeves and you don't need any more than that, perhaps switch to vermillion or the deep purple, it might give you some more options, like the funky corsets , it does mean you would have to find something on the bottom layer or the leg layer though.
honestly i dont know how much of that helped but i hope you were able to get something out of it!
Ah! I mean that I'm not using as many items as some of the more popular HAs seem to use, mainly because I'm not sure if mine will come out looking great or a hot mess, which is always the danger when you start using way too many items.
ah i see what you mean now! this is definitely a case by case thing (sometimes less is more works and sometimes more is more works) and knowing whether its cluttered or not can be really hard when you have been staring at the HA for like 478927432 hours. a lot of it also comes from trial and error and heeeeeaps of experimenting with different items, ticking and unticking the boxes to see what they do, i think the best thing to do would be just 'make', make everything and ask. SF does have the critique option but its so underutilized... maybe better to use this thread frequently, post two different versions or several of an HA that you're attempting and ask for opinions. otherwise if you are ever worried about clutter and hot-messness and there aren't any replies, give it a day, come back to it later, as you would with any kind of creative project. if anything just constantly making will give you hindsight and just see where you think things weren't done as well and taking that knowledge and applying it to your next one.
and it helps knowing what kind of HA you want to make, colour based, fantasy/casual etc. i dont want to sound like im giving non-advice or act like trends don't have a huge influence, but a lot of it is just you-do-you until you get there!
note: i just read what i wrote again and im like......ps me it not that deep--- but i do believe in just developing a process through making stuff!!
Okay ya'll, I just can't decide between these two:
Naughty...... Outfit Not Found
.....or nice Outfit Not Found
hello super late response because i dipped for a month but WOW that was so helpful. I definitely tend to go for "overdo everything" and didn't even notice. I am actually using the bonfire tats under the tribal leggings for the ankles loool so I'll be trying a lot of what you're suggesting when I next open the wardrobe!! And lol I don't think anyone on SF really uses the critique option tbh, this thread was a great idea.
idk if people still check this topic but i would like some critique/advice :3c
I still check! (well okay I subscribed to the thread) I feel like we need a ping group but don't want to flood y'all with ping groups hmm.
(in terms of actual helpful critiques I would say the blue in the legs stands out a little too much and it's a tad jarring - then I look and see the head jewel and see it matches but it's taking me a couple of seconds to make that connection. It's kinda a... cobalt blue to the navy that surrounds it, and could be toned down a shade. OR it could all just be my dodgy laptop screen which I don't trust to make HAs myself so (also maybe bring a fleck of gold down to the hands so it feels more logical)).
I also check and have subscribed lol. In general, your HAs are always really unique and fun in terms of layering and color schemes, just wanna let u kno. Also I agree with Thomas but am unsure if you've changed it yet, but ya some more gold lower down would be cool. Maybe more of the blue around the head, but that depends on what tweaks you've been making to the rest of it!
I was thinking the same thing about ping groups. It seems more efficient than just subscribing to the thread , but I guess it depends on how people feel about the pings!
Yup! Well I guess people don't have to join if they don't want to. :) I'll create a ping group before we do the weekly Stimulate update later today. edit: hey we're now a group! Hey ! Hey me!
It's probably my screen lmao. I once checked up style file on another device and the colors were brighter :'0 Thank you !! i have already tried some headdresses but i didn't find something i was 100% satisfied with and kinda give up lmao. im gonna look a little more >:0
Thank you both !
I don't know if you've changed 'em since yesterday but the match and blend w/ socks looks a lot closer to me today. 8) This is my trusty work monitor so if you haven't disregard all previous advice lmao.
And yeah I think you're gonna struggle with something that works the bulky hair (great matching, by the way!) but it doesn't really bother me, personally.
