Adventurous Food-Challenge

Steamed rice with pork cooked in a banana leaf in San Francisco's Chinatown. (I should have gone only for the dumpling which were yummy) It had a very strange taste, I really tried eating but it didn't agree with me. Placing an order was adventurous in itself, there was so many people and when you got hold of a waiter you'd better not lose them before you got your food.

Adventurous food...Ehh, nothing particularly comes to mind. I've tried a lot of different food and I'm usually not at all hesitant to try something new. What's adventurous for me is like, maybe trying a hotter level of salsa than I usually go for because I'm a wimp who can't handle hot food. That said, I love salsa, and will kill myself with spice I can't handle to eat some anyway because salsa! A lot of the foods that are "adventurous" to eat I haven't had an opportunity to try...except chocolate-covered grasshoppers, when I was little, and I didn't :P For some people, eating sushi is adventurous, and it's my favorite food. The weirder sounding the sushi is, the more I want to try it, because sushi is delicious.

Adventure with food Friday Challenge

Fish is pretty gross unless it's properly cooked so no sushi for me until I was told this particular dish was cooked.

Well, it wasn't. Bleaugh. There was something else they (they=social pressure assholes) thought was raw that wasn't. That was kinda edible, if you like drowned it with sauce and blinded your mouth with wasabi.

The thing I learned was that sometimes it's more fun to make other people eat stuff than eat it yourself, because talking to folks afterward, they didn't really love this food either.

Most adventurous thing I've ever eaten (besides my Grandma's crazy jell-o salad. it had celery and celery leaves in it plus lots of other weird things) was escargot. If you don't think about what it was before it became escargot, it tastes pretty good. :)

CHALLENGE 5: I never would have eaten mushrooms, until some years ago when my late Grandma got sauteed mushrooms from a restaurant, because she liked it. I decided to try it on a whim and ended up loving it and now I always get it from that restaurant. I even get big mushrooms on pizza now, that's how much I liked it. :P

Adventurous food challenge!

I am not a huge foodie, but here's mine.

OK, so, one Xmas I got Marmite Chocolate as a gift. Marmite being a savoury, yeast extract spread. Which I like on toast. I put off trying it for about a month, until I was feeling brave enough...

Then had some. And you know what? It was lovely. Weird, but good!

Although I may not personally consider it very adventurous, I know many people would consider durian pretty adventurous. I grew up with it, so I think it's fantastic (especially frozen or in shakes, yum).

Another food that would be adventurous if I could actually bring myself to eat it is Balut. For squeamish people who don't want to click the link, it's developing bird/chicken embryo. You can actually see the shape of the animal already, so I just had to pass.

Adventurous Food-Challenge entry

As a fussy eater with allergies, every single meal is an adventure for me.

However, my greatest adventure with food would have to be my peanut allergy challenge. For many years I guarded myself zealously from peanut and peanut products, but despite this I still had several emergency hospital visits due to anaphylaxis. But then out of the blue at a regular allergist appointment, my blood work came back indicating my allergy had disappeared. My doctor decided to do a test wherein I ate peanut butter, basically attempting to induce an allergic reaction.

I was both terrified and excited. I wanted to be able to reduce my vigilance - peanut products are in so many foods! But still, taking the test to make sure this would be safe was scary after so many years! The first part of the test was actually hard to do, they have you smear peanut butter on your lips and you need to sit there for 20 minutes with this sticky stuff on your face and not lick your lips or accidentally swallow any peanut butter. Then for the next several hours you take an increasing dose of peanut butter, waiting between each taste test to make sure you don't have a reaction. Scary, exciting and boring all in one long test.

Lucky for me, I passed the test. I can now mostly eat any foods. I still have other food allergies, but none as deadly as the peanut allergy, and none with such a common food. I'm not scared to eat anymore!

Challenge 5 Probably the weirdest thing I ate was a lolly with a real bug inside. It was a slow and totally gross ordeal, but I did it to freak out my family.
That, or... I'm one of those people that can't stand pink meat, let alone raw. So one outing with friends, the dinner vote was sushi. Even though I did try a bit of each thing, it was all gross to me, so I ended up eating the flower garnishes. Tasted like papery lettuce.

The most adventurous food I haver had would be snails in pesto sauce. They tasted really interesting and I'd never have found the courage to try snails if it hadn't been for my girlfriend's dad who took me to a French fair where they sold all sorts of French cuisine.

Challenge 5: Adventurous Food

The first time I had Sushi, I was ten years old. I was sick as hell, and my aunt and uncle brought me to Bloomington - my uncle was a music teacher at the college, and I was spending the weekend with them. I had a nasty bug, and nothing sounded good for me to eat.

They went to a Japanese restaurant, complete with little tables and pillows for us to sit on, and my aunt had me try sushi. She dipped it in soy mixed with wasabi, and it was... it was amazing. My sinuses cleared up fast, and the flavor was amazing!

It's been 15 years and I've never looked back - I love sushi, and trying new types, and I've been far more adventurous with my food - especially meats. I love eel, I love octopus, I love emu, I love bison, I love groundhog... It really opened my eyes.

Aventure Challenge ~

My adventure concerns one of the most dangerous of foods, alcohol ;P I sincerely hope this will not be offensive to anyone. Apologies ahead of time if it is.
A long time ago when I was just starting out in my career as a chemist I worked for a small, privately owned environmental laboratory ...with some very interesting characters :P We were a pretty tight-knit group and had numerous parties over the years. One day our lab director was at a bar with her husband and some friends, and was introduced to a drink called the 'test tube baby' (again, I apologize if this is offensive to anyone). I believe the drink was kahlua, vodka and some sort of cream. The cream was poured in last and stayed separated. It looked a bit like ...well, yeah, anyway... It was coming up on Halloween and we were planning a party at the lab. The director thought it would be fun to serve the 'test tube baby' drinks in real test tubes. So we ordered a new batch of clean test tubes and made the drinks for the lab personnel at the party. It was a hit! Those were interesting times lol. I'm kind of glad those days are behind me tbh 😊

My daughter and I are always up for trying weird, strange foods. The most interesting one that comes to mind is Durian.

We had seen all the reports about it smelling like old gym socks, etc. and thought we need to see if it's true.

Bought a whole one and my poor daughter went out on the balcony with various tools and finally managed to get it open.

We were very surprised to not smell anything bad and the fruit was quite tasty. We wondered what all those people had been talking about.

A couple years later we decide to have some more and went and bought one.

Get it home, open it up and... OMG it smells putrid and tastes beyond nasty.

Color us shocked! We had to immediately get it out of the apartment because it was stinking up the place.

Wish we knew why one one so mild and tasty and the other one... gag. :)

RIP Mom, I love & miss you more than you know. Tell Dede hi.

Well, it was hard to try "sururu", a kind of mussel we have here in Brazil (actually, I'm pretty sure they live in a lot of places around the Earth, but I couldn't find a translation and I'm not sure they're eaten anywhere else). I ate it at my aunt's house. It was made as a stew (we call it "moqueca", and it can be done with any seafood, actually). It looks really gross, mainly 'cause I watched her preparing it, but it's absolutely delicious.

Challenge :

I'm usually quite adventurous when it comes to food, when going to a restaurant I rather try things on the menu I haven't tried yet while some are safe with their favourites. One of my memorable events was for my birthday, we went to quite a posh restaurant called 'Sushi Samba' which combines the cuisine of Brazil, Japan and Peru. All the meals were very different and very tasty as well. It actually works very well combining different types of food together so it's good to experiment with food combinations.
