I think the increase in bad weather may be due to the fact that we're getting closer to the mountain (and, therefore, danger). It's called "Bad Omen," so maybe there's something up that mountain we don't want to see (you know, other than the curse).

- ALL. THE. TIME. Or a turkey comes in on the edge and bounces back out because it hit something. xD Those darn turkeys.

That's a good thought, although I guess it's also just that the island is dangerous in general. Matlal did say that people used to die when trying to race up the mountain to become the next king or whatever.
