I babysit my nephews and niece when my SIL and bro need to work. I also take care of my sick dad when i'm home and do all manner of household stuff he can no longer do. A usual day is exhausting and right now i have a summer cold so i'm ready to keel over when given time to myself.
I do extra work. Not much of a living and doesn't pay well but I enjoy being on set and acting so that's payment enough for me ^^ It's not as fun as people think it is, a lot of standing around (literally standing) in different temperatures (last job I did it was over 100 (F) and we were outside all day from 6 am to 8 PM).
I just started my career as a registered massage therapist! I'm hoping to branch out into osteopathy once i have a clientele built up! :) It's a huge transition from being in school my whole life and I have to do so much marketing right now but I'm excited for the days when more of my time is spent massaging as opposed to marketing.
I'm currently just started grad school... So technically unemployed. Hoping to start research soon!
I've been a paralegal for the last 25 years. I am ready for a change. I would love to be a horticulturist like . I'm envious of your job. Hopefully some day.
Go for it! I absolutely love my job! Maybe you could apply to one of your local nurseries as a part timer, like on the weekends or something so you can get the feel for it. ;)
I will be honest tho.. the only thing I do not like about it is..the summer time.. there is no AC where I work, so it can get really tough in the summer heat..I am constantly soaking myself with the hose in the summer tho. LMAO!! But hey, whatever keeps me cool right??
My husband has always told me I should sell my offspring from my mother plants and seeds as extra income. But it's hard to let go of my babies, LOL. I know what you mean about summer though, I live in Southwest Florida and it gets hot and humid here, but I love being outside with my plants.
My best friend lives in Southwest Florida!! Which part are you in?? She's in Sarasota! Selling the offspring takes a lot of time and patience. You could do that, that would be really awesome! I love being outside with my plants too. I always pick off seed pods and dry them out to give as gifts for Christmas time. Haha. That sounds nerdy but, I love doing it!! And all my family members love it. It's almost like they expect them for Christmas. Lol
Also, your in a different Zone than I am. I'm in Virginia. We get our Tropical plants from Florida, they are perrenials were you are, but annuals here. They don't make it through our winters. I love it when the Tropical truck comes in to work, we get all kinds of lizards and frogs that come in off the plants. :)
You really should consider doing something part time, it's also something a lot of older people like to do after they retire. It gives you something to do, and it's very calming. Gardening can be very relaxing and clears your mind. ;)
OMG that is so cool how close you are to my BFF!!!! Have you ever heard of Metro Pet Salon??
Everyone has such interesting careers. I work in retail-a pet store to be specific. I've been there for 4 years, but off and on before that. I wish my boss switched us up. Washing cages once a week sucks.
Yeah... been there 4 years and only get one shift a week.
I am finishing university (2 exams left) and am working in hospital administration in the meantime. Working with people sucks 90% of the time, but at least it never gets boring, so that's something, I guess.
Subeta. No, really. I sit at my desk where I work as a receptionist at an assisted living place. There's quite a lot of downtime, so I do my quests, chat on the forums, play games, etc. And get paid for it. There are a lot of downsides to this job, but getting to screw around on Subeta makes up for a lot of it.
That's so sweet you work with dogs- I do too! I'm a veterinarian :)
I manage a used bookstore and am always amused by the vast differences and similarities between the two jobs. The customers/patrons are always the most interesting part..even when there are books to look at. (:

There really isn't much difference between bookstore and library customers when it comes to questions and issues a lot of the time as far as books are concerned! The main difference for me is that I also have to be tech help, which creates its own set of issues.
At least I haven't had anyone ask me for books where all they remember is a blue cover in a long while.
You seem like such a kind, caring person. Hopefully your cold is gone by now! You definitely need a rest day or day spa trip.
One shift a week?? That sounds shitty considering you've been there so long. Do you live in a small town? Pet stores/the pet industry can have a high turnover rate which is nice if you're considering finding a new job. ;)
Veterinarians are heroes! :)
