there are a bare handful of restockable items over 1m and they dont restock often. It's not a bad thing to allow items to hold value. Nothings forcing anyone to shell out 30m for an achievement, if someone doesnt want it that bad they dont need it. But what we do need is ways to keep people playing subeta, and allowing a consistent and effort based profitable task is certainly one of them.
As an aside, I scoff at "value". Subeta's a game and the fun is in the playing of it. Prices go up and down, and yes sometimes someone as awesome a merchant as I makes bad guesses as to how they go (and I'm still betting the price will go up over time and today is a fluke).
It is not real life and nobody is going to be starving on the street eating cat food from tins if some non-real virtual item loses its "value".
Hence the thousands of other items... There is no trouble making a profit on any number of things on this site. Well people aren't restocking and people arent spending much time on site. Having big profit items to restock would help.. This being a high demand high profit item is nice.
isn't this an example of prices going up?
that same argument exists for certain items remaining expensive. no one is going to be starving if they purchase one after it reaches 50 mil. it's a part of the game, some items have more use than others, making them more expensive.
I definitely think something should be done about this one -- I've been trying to lay hands on a reasonably-priced copy of this book basically since I joined the site, but it just keeps having extra demand placed on it and it never goes down to a place where I'd feel justified in buying it, especially not twice over.
I'd be fine seeing it go in the Token Shop for a couple restocks, or maybe having its rarity temporarily lowered to get more copies in circulation (I don't know if that ever happens, or if it would work)...just something that will get it down to a couple million instead of over twenty.
I'm annoyed with it. I constantly feel like I'm playing catch up all the time in terms of feeding and reading books to my pets just to anticipate possible achievements coming out and items shooting up in price. I have a hard time gauging what 'groups' of things I should be feeding or reading to my pet so I'm not missing so many items when an achievement come out. I've been here for almost three years so maybe I could have done better but I don't have all the time in the world dedicated to gathering spare sP for books/food and save for stuff I want at the same time.
I understand needing to earn things you want- that's how games like Subeta works - but I don't think this book is a good example of that. It's not fun or very rewarding, just... annoying to watch prices spike, slowly come down, only to have it spike again. Oh, but it's fine because it restocks. It's like a terrible video game that doesn't seem terrible at first. You get half way through the game before its true colours show but then you still force yourself to beat that terrible game because you dedicated too much time to it and you're not going to let it kick your butt. You don't feel proud or satisfied that you beat that game, and you didn't even have to beat that game, but you still felt compelled too.
Maybe I'm just too salty and tired of this book. I was alright with waiting for it come down in price when it was just part of the batch that came with the space achievements but this book seriously made me roll my eyes when I saw it in another achievement. It just feels like a chore and I don't think that's the right way to make people stay and play the game. Maybe that's nice and dandy for others but not for me and it seems like I'm not the only one.
There's nothing wrong with having something to work towards. If you're able to easily achieve everything, why even bother doing it in the first place. There are all sorts of different tiers of achievements based on effort/skill/$$$, why do these ones need to be made cheaper when it could make someone spend more time on subeta. Why do people want things to be easier? The major problem here is that everyone is too reliant on the (generally correct) mentality that eventually an item will just drop to an easy to attain price and now finally an item has been made to be opposite, and no one wants to hear the benefits, they just want their item and achievements given to them.
I agree with some people here that some rs needs to have some value. The book is a rare case and you don't usually find a rs that is worth that much or holds its value for that long, apart from some of the high-end potions, and those are very few.
Before quests get nerfed as they do today questers can easily get within an hour or two (in one sitting, if one has the time to) a 5-7 mil profit per day on a GA, and 4-5 mil profit per day even without one. I don't rs as often nowadays but I can say with confidence that unless a rs gets very lucky, he/she cannot get a profit as close to that amount per day within the same time frame just sitting and refreshing in shops. New items have better values, but the opportunity window to earn good sP off them is small and not as consistent as quests. Even the rarer stuff (r75-99) mostly sell for 60-70k a piece so to make millions of sP off them would require rs about 100 items in that rarity range, and would take a really long time.
Items will go down in price, if not very soon then eventually they will. I guess half a year from now the price won't be this high anymore and by then more people will be able to afford it, or have saved up enough to afford it.
Like I said, I don't mind having things to work towards. Being a newer user means I have well over 500 retired Subeautique items to catch up on and despite some of the those items being 10mill a pop and most sets, regardless of being retired or not, cost millions to complete, I'm excited to work towards those. I am also excited about earning Angelic, Spectrum, and Black Light Potions, things that also hard to find unless you got CSC but I'm alright with that. I'm not even counting all the CSC stuff I want for my galleries, which will be 15mill+ I'm sure but I'll be proud to have them in my gallery. It's not like people who complain about this book aren't working for other goals.
I'm just tired of this book being shoved into achievements like everybody already has it or it's not r99 or anything like that. It's just over-stayed its welcome for me and I do view it as a chore, unlike my potions or Subeautique items. I'm annoyed and chose to vent, but I certainly don't expect its rarity to go down or for it suddenly become cheaper just because I'm mad about it. I personally hope that it won't be in another achievement but that's just me.
I used to get this book on the regular from Lizards. In fact, I had four on my account before I finally broke down and read one to my pet a couple of days ago, after the newest achievement was released. One in wardrobe and three in different TCs. I took the one out of my wardrobe and read it to my pet.
I haven't gotten one from Lizards in awhile though. I doubt there's a way to increase a specific item from Lizards, and that's probably not a good idea anyway, to get that granular with REs.
I don't know how I feel about having this for two achievements though. One could make the argument that it's a consumable, so if someone used it for the first achievement, they don't need to use it twice. So it's not really 'doubling' the need in that sense. At the same time, it is a very popular item not just as a wearable, but as a TC item, to give as a gift, etc.. So it's not something that people sell very often when they do get it. I'm a good example of that. I had four on my account and if I got more from REs, probably would have kept them or at the very least gifted them to friends who needed them before I would sell.
If I hadn't had an extra, realistically I probably would not have ever bought one for these outrageous prices to read just for an achievement, not even for two. That's just too much, and I'm not there yet with achievements.
If staff wanted to boost an RSable item's value, another item could have easily been chosen.
It's the double, triple dipping that really hurts. The book was already ~12m before the new achievements. It already had value.
Also, clearly the Lizards already weren't doing so well if it was that price. And making it now majority require being read vs. worn just means they go out of circulation that much faster.
It's just pointless. RSable items? Good, sure. Varied achievements (read vs wear)? Absolutely. Hitting up the same exact item 3x over? Why??
And despite saying it's not going retire atm, it's age (plus possibility of staff changing their minds) still makes that a worry for the nearish future imo. At least the Atebus shop is less crowded, that should help, but still.
Good. Can't afford it? Save. There's nothing wrong with edge cases like this.
I already said it isn't retiring, and I've talked to about this multiple times, you really don't need to keep trying to scare people. There is no reason to retire it. We usually retire things when they've gotten really cheap and have few uses (like lots of the more basic clothing items, for example.) We've also been going in the direction of finding other ways to use up junkier items, like the drives, increasing the items that the Recycle Beast takes, can be fragged, events/drives, etc.
Using this item had nothing to do with increasing the item value, it had to do with it fitting with the achievement while still being restockable. It was 11mil when I released the achievement. No matter what item it was, the price would have increased some at the release--that happens every single time. It's not only a restockable item, but it also can be caught with a Lizard Minion Trap/Spray. Not all of the achievements are going to be super easy. There are 2 achievements you can get with it being read, and another in the wardrobe. You could feasibly get 3 achievements only needed once.
You're going to have to work for some achievements. If it's something you're interested in working for, it's entirely attainable.
Did y'all really delete my post just because I was upset about being accused of something I'm not doing? Faith in Subeta < 0. Nothing in my post violated the Community Guidelines (anymore than the above post, anyways).
Edit: And yeah, I watched it post. Successfully. Then go to 'undefined'. Now that's gone too.
I am seriously pissed off. You've never removed posts that weren't blatantly spambots or over the line before. Always just been warned. Even posts that have had people banned. Now I wonder what else is being moderated in the shadows.
Saying that being accused of 'scaremongering' isn't very nice (and is unprofessional) isn't against the Community Guidelines (again, unless the original insinuation of 'scaremongering' is too).
If your post was bad enough to have been deleted, you would have gotten a warning. I was in the process of replying to you and Amber said she couldn't see it. So I sent her a screenshot showing that I was actively replying. Your ping now sends me to another thread. Not sure what happened. You don't need to assume anything like that, you're more than welcome to message me if you thought that's what happened. I was actually just about to message you! Here's the screenshot:

You've said a few times that it's going to be retired as if we mentioned it was. I don't really want that rumor going around because there isn't any basis for it, just really don't want people to freak out about something like that. In the main shops we only really retire retire junk, and the seasonal items that come back/reretire.
The rest of the achievements I created were really easy to get. Having one that's a bit of work isn't really that outlandish.
If anything, I think we need more achievements involving r90-r99 items, to make more of them worthwhile.
, can we count on you for that? :D
I don't think worrying about a post being deleted when it suddenly poofs (when I've never seen or even heard of errors like that before, especially when the post was initially successful) is that crazy. I was waiting for the warning to pop up (even if I felt it was sorely not to that point) tbph. Sorry.
And that's why I specifically said 'staff changing their minds', my opinion, what you've said elsewhere, etc. I'm not 'trying to start a rumor' (again, insinuation) when I worry that a site feature may be applied to things as - at least originally - designed/as it has been in the past (retirements haven't always only happened to junk). The new trend of retire then revamp also contributes to 'non junk' being retired, even if it isn't exactly what would happen here.
I also never said 'outlandish', just that it's fairly different and that even if 1 achievement out of a set is meant to be hard having the same item in 3 achievements (something fairly unprecedented even in the realm of 'hard' achievements) is going to draw feedback.
Edit: And just for the record, I waited a while before I added anything but the question of 'was the post deleted'.
Keith just accidentally deleted a post a few days ago. Maybe they need to add a captcha or something, because it should not be this easy to make permanent mistakes like this.

It is kind of a pain, I'll see if we can do something about that. If I had done it the post would have disappeared for me though, since it does it live. Amber said she got the undefined error, which neither of us have even heard of. I think that may have been some sort of actual glitch.
