100% yes to this suggestion! I always forget I have certain items, because of what layer they're in.

I support this so hard!

The face layer always annoys me; I never use the glasses for example, but I have to keep them in there for achievement purposes; I can't imagine what it must be like for those with 15k+ sized wardrobes!

Now that we have an updated wardrobe and the "items per layer" system is gone, I definitely think it's time to update these layers!

It is a pain in the but currently to browse items in the head/hat layers especially. Looking for wigs specifically, hats specifically, or items that don't fall into those two categories (tiaras, diadems, flowers, bows, etc) is a hassle. I haven't run into this problem on other layers yet just from lack of using the new wardrobe, but I also anticipate this happening when I look for leggings/pants/skirts/misc leg items, spread across the legs/bottom/waist layers. There is now excuse of "you just want more items on X layer!" now, it's time to get these layers updated.

Gods yes. Now that it doesn't matter, I would kill to get facial/head separation.

Wigs vs everything else. There are so many items that are unrecognizable as wigs, and most of those items are subeta official items, as CW's have to have hair on the CW. Can't tell you how many times I've thought "ooh, a ribbon" only to have it be a wig. And it's something I've owned for YEARS.

Eyes vs mouth vs makeup vs wearables Sometimes searching through what I own is SUCH a drag. You can't even try to simplify by searching "eye" or "lip" as those words don't appear in every item that belongs there. And forget searching through ALL items on subeta. There's so much makeup and glasses and whatnot it's close to impossible to search through for things you may be interested in purchasing.

I want this because it's hella confusing to find nails and polish to go with it. :T Not to mention everything already in the OP.

are classified as a "Finger" layer but the + recolors is a "Hands" layer. To me, they're both technically fingers... Make it one or the other, since this could apply to the Plastic Talons from Morostide as well.

I think more sorting would be WONDERFUL. Now that Subeta has capped the number of items total rather than the number of items per layer, they could add several more layers. I know it would be a great undertaking for whichever staff member(s) had to do it, but it would be so helpful in the long run for everyone. I mean, with tens of thousands of clothing items, that's A LOT to sort through even with our existing layers. What I'm trying to say, I came here to suggest that maybe all hair items could be pulled out of the "head" layer and made into their own layer. It's always a pain trying to find the right hair pin amid all the wigs. Especially when they can be named anything, so I can't just search for "wig" or "barrette" and hope to find what I'm looking for.

Other layer clarity would help too. Like, I just came across the Tall Ink Cap and it's mushroom buddies in my wardrobe, and IMO those should be in "hat" not "head." I also came across a ton of beautiful hair I didn't know I had (like the Wanderlust Strands) because I guess I always assumed it was some type of hair pin.

Anyway, I know I am far from a huge clothing collector, but I have been around Subeta for years, and I have 15 pages in my head layer, 20 in my chest, 10 in my face...at this point, anything to help sub-divide it so I can find things easier, especially things that aren't as intuitive as what they are (having odd names/thumbnails).

Speaking of the face layer, that could be sub-divided too: lips, eyes, full face. If the staff wanted.

The adjacent layer is also a great suggestion.

If it would help, maybe the staff could involve the userbase. I remember when they had us "tag" various items on site (I don't know if anything ever became of that). The staff could set up a pool with all wearables, have a drop down list of all the layers (and maybe some new ones), and then letter the players sort items into which body part is most appropriate. I don't know how well it would work, and I'd imagine it'd be a more casual, do-a-few-if-you'd-like thing, but it might really help the staff organize all these crazy mis-layers.

What else...what else...Hmm...well, I often forget "over chest" exists and I have many pretty items there. Maybe it could be re-defined as the coat/jacket layer? That would help with the fact some vests are over chest while others are just chest.

Oh yeah, a "wrist" layer is another possibility. Sometimes I'm just looking for a bracelet, and I don't need to see everything that goes on my shoulders--many of which items are confused between the arm and shoulder layers.

Please, please don't ping me. Please.

Now that there are no per-layer restrictions and Drawers are kinda screwed up, this Suggestion should be implemented pretty much as the OP has it.

This is over a year old, but I've been thinking about it, and layers in general, lately. Specifically the full body and body layers. For me, personally, I'd like to see body as anything that changes your avatar. Body related, be it skins, full makeup, animal parts, things like that. While full body should be used for clothes that cover more than one area.

Boil it down to clothes (full body) versus not clothes (body)

Also I would really love to be involved in this? I think the suggestion to utilize the userbase like was done for the tagging project (Did anything ever come of that, by the way?) is a really great one. I love sorting and organizing things. It's the virgo in me.

...seriously though- we really do need something this! I mean, just from that first post it's kind of really obvious that there's big inconsistencies with wears sorted into layers. I've noticed this for such a long time- in actuality I spend an unhealthy time in wardrobe whether or not I wear the outfit I save. Hat and head are an issue, legs and bottoms, knee highs being in both legs and ankle layers, definitely foreground and ground, and gosh... like you'd think one pieces and the like are the chest layer, right? But there are ones in body, too, which makes sense but... I highly doubt us users remember that every time etc.

i fully support this! the labeling of the items needs to change.

i'd like to comment a bit on your Sorting Guidelines (with examples), in the arms section, you presented this:

Quote
Arms vs Skin
VS
The dipped needle extends onto the shoulders, and it contradicts these rules: [quote]items that rest on or solely encompass the HAs arms

  • items DO NOT extend onto the shoulders" [quote] or maybe i just dont see well..

I didnt have the patience to read the whole OP, nor the thread, so please forgive me for this. just wanted to show my support, and to thank you for the trouble of compiling all that. i also considered making a similar thread, but given the effort i needed for it.... u.u im sure you understand.

offtopic [sorta] im in the process of making drawers to put items with similar function or that cover the same areas that are found across layers, into a single place - to find them easier.. another monstrous work. well, i only do it for the items i like more, or think i may use more .. LOL

Looking back now (after all this time) I agree, extends onto the shoulders, and should be in the Skin layer. I fix that in the examples!

Coming back from a hiatus, I think I'm going to take on the project of sorting my own wardrobe drawers so that I have these layers. Which is going to be time-consuming! I have over 20k in my wardrobe ❤️ It should be fun, though, and I'll definitely have an easier time sorting through my wearables. I just wish that everyone on Subeta could have that experience without having to put in all the work themselves.

This thread is over a year and a half old and still going strong! Wow, guys, thank you so much for your support ❤️ I think the longevity of this topic really speaks to how necessary it is that we take action on updating the wardrobe layers. These inconsistencies on layer sorting are such a hindrance on many Subeta users and with so much progress on the wardrobe update now would be a perfect time to really consider putting a plan like this into action.

i was really surprised yesterday seeing the and its other colors (items released on Morostide) on the HEAD layer rather than face. It even has the word "face" in its name, for crying out loud!

I see no good reason not to reorganise layers now that we have an overall item limit instead of layer limits.

Hat and Head item are already separated, which is great. I'd love to see Head split further though. Not every hair and wig item is obvious by its name, and can be damn hard to search for when you have a lot. Give Hair its own category, and leave Head to stuff like horns and clips and headbirbs.

Face items are even worse. I have a hell of a time looking through eyes and lips to find the one I want. I can't tell you the number of times I've thought an item looked like a lipstick, only to hover over it and find it's eyes. Let's give these their own layers too.

And it's a mask too. Most other masks are in the Face layer. Unless they very obviously don't fit there, like the Held layer's Esteemed Lady/Lord Masks.

There is precedent for outsorcing re-sorting this sort of thing to users and I'd be really pleased if we could take a stab at it... all of the inconsistencies pointed out above pain me so much.....

I was actually looking for this thread last week to do just that XD maybe not completely since I'd definitely want to put all tattoos and paint into just once place, for example, but. this is a good guideline.

That one might be able to have a ticket filed to be moved into the Face layer, but without clear sorting rules mistakes like that are bound to happen and it doesn't solve any of discrepancies listed in the examples of my OP.

It's such an undertaking for one user to do their own wardrobe all by themselves, but it would be such a delight to work together as a community to reorganize the wardrobe as a whole, you know? And then it would save time and allow for users to customize further based on their personal preferences (a tattoo drawer, which could more easily be started from the Skin layer or an eye drawer that could more easily be started from the Face layer once all the masks, glasses, etc. are out of it.)

Such an old suggestion that is so incredibly needed! I'm much too lazy to sort everything in my wardrobe into proper drawers, but I would be lost without my hair/eyes/mouth/head accessories drawers.

This undertaking would be reasonably large, but again, with the help of the users, it's very doable.

The interface wouldn't have to be very complex- create a welcome screen that you have to scroll through with 1-2 examples of each layer and short characteristics. (Similar to how the first post is laid out, but a bit shorter.) Then on the next page is the rating system. Does it fit in the layer (and provide the longer description with more examples)?

If staff eliminate item recolors, it'll make the pool of items much smaller. Then it's just a matter of each item being seen multiple times.

As for rewards - have a tiered achievement for helping (something manageable, like 100). For long term rewards, staff could release a small set of items that you have a chance to get (similar to throwing things into the fire during fireside for a reward.) Or, if the artists are too busy, there could be a small chance of getting a single point of some currency. (For the currencies where a single point won't break the system, like Wizard, Carnival, or Seasonal.)
