Because people like hoarding things? It's fun to keep as many as you can of an item you like; I have a couple of things that I hoard like that, I would move those to my vault without complaint if I were told it would help the servers.

The thing is though, iirc has said before that hoarding multiples of a single item has no effect on the server load; it only has to load up the number that you own in addition to loading the item itself. That's why even though the number of unique items in shops and galleries are now limited, we can have as many multiples as we want. Because it doesn't affect the server strain so there's no reason not to allow it.

Still not a good idea in my opinion. I'd be sad if I could't have my hoard of Leviathan Bobbleheads in a gallery. I am very proud of them and they are my own personal collection I work on. I'm all for the limit on unique items, but not multiples.

vault categories don't allow for renaming, and having a gallery dedicated to one or two pets at time was easier to keep track of, especially for pets with large tcs. i don't see why i should be forced into making my own downtime vaguely more complicated when i can use one of subeta's features (galleries) to complement my use of another of subeta's features (treasure chests) :?

I'm not saying we get rid of them any longer. Now I'm saying we get rid of the ability to put an unlimited number of a specific item into galleries.

If I put the effort into gathering dozens of the same item during the course of several years, why shouldn't I be allowed to display them? Yup, it's a waste of time but I had fun doing it, and if I want to show off my hard work, why shouldn't I be allowed to do so?

Again, why do you want to control how other users play the site? Just because you don't see the point in something doesn't mean that it needs to be removed, limited or otherwise made difficult for the people who use it in a way you don't.

I use my vault for more same items. An apart category for the recyle beast is not a bad idea.

On topic: I think a gallery is not the same as a vault omo. If some users prefers galeries as a semi vault, it seems pointless to me, but it can't really bother me tough. It's their own free choice.

I just don't know what this accomplishes. I don't think restricting it to no duplicates really makes sense, it's putting more restrictions on people who are already getting the shop limit imposed on them.

I believe the reason that the number of duplicate items in a gallery was not restricted, is because they are not displayed individually. There is only one item image displayed. 10,000 free beers in a gallery put no more strain on the servers than 1 free beer. In a shop where things are constantly being clicked on, searched for, bought and sold, large numbers are painful for the servers. Not so in galleries.

I only have like 320 unique items in my lifelike doll gallery, but I have over 2000 items in there because duplicates. I'm not going to sell my duplicates more if I can only put one in my gallery, I'm probably just going to use treasure chests instead

I don't see the point of restricting multiples in galleries - it doesn't lessen the server load or anything and people tend to be hoarding cheaper items in the hundreds/thousands. (That being said I personally find it so pointless, if you wanna show off 10000 lobsters then put them in a TC cause that is way cooler than just 'kabillion in stock')

I am more for restricting multiples in the new user shops as people restocking tons of the same item and freezing the price is going to shaft the economy so hard.

I'm using my gallery to see which lifelike dolls I have duplicates of, and can afford to lend away, and which I only have one of, so that I can focus on which one to buy another of for lending sets

I don't like the vault. I like showing off my full lifelike doll collection, because I am pretty sure I already blew hundreds of millions on that D:

Also I don't mean when people have like 1-10 of an item, I meant very literally the items that have like 3000 in stock. I know lots of people that have multiples to keep track of how many they need before they can eat/feed/shove into wardrobe etc and I totally get that.

I don't have any hoard over 30. I just bought a lot of underpriced (less than 10K) a while back to avoid further undercutting, but I can't handle having 3000+ of an item, haha :D

What would this idea accomplish really? There is nothing wrong with hoarding multiple copies of an item. Some people really like particular items and they want to collect them and also display their collection for anyone who cares to look. There's really absolutely no reason to prevent this. The ONLY reason people should be prevented from hoarding 45k unique items in one place is because of the strain on the servers, however multiple copies of a single item in one gallery has a negligible effect. If you want proof of this, go try to load a gallery with 40k unique items and then try to load one with 100k free beers, but only 100 unique items.

I agree, I feel if you want to have a gallery to show off stuff, one of each thing is sufficient.

I do think there has to be a way to enable galleries that are similar to shops but lack a lot of the functionality that clogs up the servers. Galleries don't need pricing functions, or shop search comparison functions.

Edit: Which, actually, if this were done, then maybe it wouldn't matter about multiples in a gallery. I'm willing to go either way on that - if it's not a server strain, then sure why not. If it is a server strain to have multiples, then...nope.

absolutely, positively no support. My friends know that I adore Kumos and give me Kumos items from time to time. They go straight to my gallery. I have a huge number of multiples of other items in other galleries because I love them. Galleries are a place where you SHOULD be able to have as many multiples as you want and as many unique items as you want. If this is the case, and we were limited to only ONE of each kind of item per gallery, then TCs should be done away with, too. I'm sure that there are many users that have multiple items in their pets' TCs for sure. Why not limit everything from here on out? You're only allowed a limit of 4000 items in your wardrobe. You're only allowed a handful of this and a few of that. Why not just limit the amount of sP you're allowed, too? Let's limit everything because if we don't, they will all take up too much space on the servers.

Not only will limiting not work, it would make players even angrier than they are now about everything. Limiting isn't the answer at all.

Like said - there needs to be a greater purpose for galleries on here. They're a way to show off what you love on Subeta and a way to keep adding to your collection(s) in a fun way. I've worked hard on a lot of my galleries thus far and would be devastated to be told that I can only have 1 of each item in there.

Galleries aren't the problem on here; they can't be. There's a ton of traffic in shops. I can agree with reducing the strain on shops, but not galleries as the traffic is super low. There needs to be a way to code galleries on separate pages to reduce the amount of traffic on site.

We should really be able to collect what we want when we want and how much of what we want without being limited. Imposing limits on everything just isn't feasible and really will make everyone on here simply livid. Limits aren't the issue here. The issue lies within the codes that make the site run. If the codes are old, broken or just wrong, nothing will work. You could limit all players to have the same limits and the site will still have error messages. Getting the coding fixed, up to date and working properly is what needs to be done.

Once again, absolutely no support for limiting people with their galleries.

Some people actually have goals to hit like 1k of one type of item or something. It is something they set for themselves, they save up to buy and it provides them fun. Why take that away from them? I got items in my gallery that have multiples and I won't take them out just to sell. I'll stuff them in my vault before I do that.

If duplicates on display were causing any sort of problem, I think they would have mentioned that, rather than saying you're free to have as many of an item as you want. I have spent a small fortune of sP on my anpan gallery; if I were reduced to being allowed 1 single anpan, I would just give up on this place. That would be the final straw for me.

Why do I have so many of the same item? Because the site allows me to, it's not against the rules, and I like the item itself. Collecting doesn't need to be explained or justified lol. Again, it says right on the news post that duplicates are fine.
