Gaia looked over at Magnus and then returned her attention to the Pegasus. "I love winged creatures it seems. I also love flying. What do they eat?" Gaia sighed "I am not angry at you or scared from what I saw. I am upset because you shouldn't have taken such a gamble with your life. It could have gone so much worse." Gaia's voice faded as she talked and didn't trust herself to continue so she nodded and moved closer to the Pegasus. ()

Magnus smiled seeing Paddy enjoying Rodney the rat. Then he said to Gaia, "They eat herbs and other vegetation." His face dropped again. "I weren't being frivolous wif meself. Weren't in much more danger than I am every full moon, but that's why I 'ad a 'ealer and me dad there. I mean, the adults agreed..." his voice trailed off. He didn't know what else to say and looked down at the ground, trying to keep from showing how he felt--like he had been kicked in the stomach. First Katsumi and now Gaia. He tried not to cry, he really did, but the tears fell anyway. He wished he never let them see the transformation at all. He'd broken bones and injured himself even with wolfsbane. Wishing it wasn't going to change anything. He'd let himself become centre stage and now he was crying in front of everyone.

Katsumi sighed. "Look. You got hurt, yes, but you're fine now, right? You were trying to do something kind, and you made a judgement about it. Your father and his coworkers agreed, as you said. You had no way of knowing how things would turn out in advance, so don't beat yourself up about it. We all /chose/ to come -- you didn't force us. And you were really putting yourself out there." Her unemotional voice took on a quiet intensity as the second-year tried to comfort Magnus with the logical reasoning that was so close to her nature. "Most of the people who are upset feel that way because they care -- and if they're upset only because they didn't like what they saw, well, that's on them, not you, and they'd have no right blaming you for it." She folded her arms, and continued in a tone that was somewhat gentler. "I might sound a bit hypocritical, but I think that it was your decision to make, not ours. I'm not going to say I agree with your choice, but I'm not going to just watch you feel bad for making it, either. Especially when you're the one that was most injured by it."

Sam held her tongue, Gaia and Katsumi were only expressing thoughts that she herself had felt. but she still took a step closet to Magnus, as if to shield him. "So!" she said loudly, tugging at his elbow to distract him, "I say you show us the proper way to ride these beasts! Definitely not hanging off them sidewards like my little excursion there."

He finally understood Sam's comment about letting others see what he was, rather than what he wanted to show. Katsumi sounded like his mother, echoing similar sentiments. She had been upset that he was hurt but did also try to reassure him that he didn't do anything wrong either. It was just something that happened and that he put way too much on his young shoulders and was quick to take the blame for things.

"Me parents didn't want me to come back," he said trying to calm down, "til I begged 'em to find another punishment for me. Mum said there was nofing to punish an' it was cos they were worried about me being 'urt in sports an' other things."

Then Sam tugged on his arm trying change the subject. He wiped his other arm over his eyes to get rid of the tears and said, "show ya." He went the horse Sam spooked, petted her for a second and then said, "can I get on?" The horse lowered itself and he climbed on. "'Old the mane if you feel unstable, but otherwise its like flying a broom. Move your body to the left or right for direction changes and lower for speed. The 'Oly 'Ead 'Arpies uses them for Quidditch practice sometimes cos its a little 'arder wif the wings in the way."

, , , Sam carefully approached a mare with gentle violet eyes, that Magnus informed her was named Iola. Holding out her hand to the horse to snuffle, she softly patted Iola's withers and asked if she could get on. Iola nudged Sam's hand for one more pet, then knelt to the ground so she could climb on. Once the nervous girl was settled, the horse waited calmly for Sam to say "Up", then rose smoothly to her hooves, spreading her broad wings so Sam could tuck her legs tightly to the mare's body. Folding her wings over Sam's legs, Iola walked slowly around the pitch, ending up next to Magnus who was sitting patiently on Appolina, where she stood quietly, waiting for the command to fly.

It took him a moment to realise why Sam was waiting, it really did, because it didn't occur to him that he would actually have to fly to show everyone how to fly with the horses. He sighed inwardly. All he wanted to do was leave the meeting and hide in a corner alone with his sketchbook. It had been a long time since he really wanted to be alone with his thoughts and pencil in his hand. Still, he had a responsibility to the club and his mum did go and get these creatures for him. He would try to put his feelings aside and be as instructive as he could.

"Tell 'em 'down' to go back to the ground and tap 'em on the neck. To take off, pat on the hindquarter like this," he reached behind and gave Appolina a soft pat, "and say up, just like a broom." His horse rose gently and then Magnus lowered himself almost flat on the horse and they took off, racing around the Quidditch pitch at a fast speed. He turned left and right a few times to show how it was done. He did a few 360 loops and then told her down and patted her neck. Landing right back where they had been

Paddy had pulled the notebook from her pocket, and was busy drawing something while everyone else was talking. Her drawing skills weren't the best, but she waved her wand and tapped the page while muttering a spell to make the figures move. Thankful she'd practised her charm-work, she folded the piece of paper and handed it to Magnus before walking over to a Pegasus.

She wasn't sure that her idea would work, or even if Magnus would recognise the figures she'd drawn, and not just think it was random doodling.... but she hoped he would see a smiling Magnus, with Kippers on his shoulder and Freddie sat on his foot. She didn't want to get into an in-depth discussion about the werewolf session, but wanted to show she was pleased he'd decided to do that, however dangerous it had turned out to be.

Taking her mind off werewolves, she stroked the Pegasus and asked if she could get on. As the Pegasus lowered itself to the ground, she climbed onto its back and tried to hang on without risking pulling any fur.

Sam nodded at at Magnus' instructions and "Ahhed" in admiration at the speed of the winged horse as he demonstrated how to fly her. Grinning at Paddy as she climbed atop another horse she called out; "Race ya to the goal posts!" and patting Iola on the rump called out "UP" Flattening herself to the mare's neck she marveled at the feeling of the powerful animal beneath her as they raced across the pitch.

Paddy handed him a piece of paper whilst he was still astride the horse. He looked at the drawing and gave her a smile then folded it neatly and put it the back pocket of his jeans. "Thanks. Good drawing." It was clear everyone was trying to help cheer him up. It was supposed to be a fun meeting after all. "Ain't gonna go easy on you lot cos your girls you know," he said smiling to the girls and also tapped his horse's rump saying "up" and leaning forward to get her to fly faster.

Closing in on the group he doubled over in the grass to catch his breath, laughing a little at himself for being late the hundredth time in a row. Chase the bengal cat was not far behind. Promptly the playful cat pounced onto Fade’s chest when the boy rolled over forcing what little wind he had gathered right back out. Chase purred and rubbed his face against Fade’s chin while the boy groaned. “Sorry, I’m late.” He said it into the sky, but was loud enough for those closest to hear him. It was stated as an apology and also as a statement of fact.

Magnus was racing around and saw Fade. He was very happy that the other boy was late, because that meant he had not seen him cry. He also realised he had something he wanted to show everyone as well. He touched down near Fade. "Ey, Fade. Meet the Pegaus." And left him with the horse he was on

Everyone wins Contest

Magnus crossed over to a small box with airholes and coughed to gain the club's attention. He took out a white ball of fur and set it on his head. "This 'ere is a Puffskein. It loves to be cuddled and don't even mind being chucked about; which is one o' the reasons its a pretty popular pet. It eats anything but likes to eat buggers when its owner sleeps. They are easy ta care for an' hum when they are 'appy. The Pygmy Puff is a miniture version o' the puffskein. So I got one for everyone ta care for for a week. They got lots o' fur colour options and you can use the colour changing spell to change its colour.
