Today it seems like I have had nothing but blank pages, and 502 and 504 errors, it's ridiculous. WHY is this happening? I don't think, from what I have read, that anyone knows. I just know that there are right now only 436 users online (after another spate of page errors and blank pages,) and I am wondering if a site I have enjoyed so much, and invested so much time and, frankly, money in, is dying. PLEASE get this fixed. Move back to Rackspace. Something! Anything!

I find it really ironic that the Twitter says there's an explanation about the blank pages and gateway errors...

And then links into Subeta for this. Which... is where all the blank pages and gateway errors are!

So trying to read the discussion on it (and subsequently the Admin posts explaining what's going on) isn't really working.

I literally can't get the posts to load. (I'm currently staring at half-loaded, with the rest--the pertinent parts--endlessly looping the little loading icon).

I don't even know if this is posting--but on the off chance that it is, can we have a copy of the explanation (probably not feasible for the whole discussion) be posted somewhere off-site? Thank you!

Once again, I'd like to point out that not everyone is on social media and that posting explanations up on third-party sites means that someone has to repost that information to the actual site every single time, often multiple times.

Maybe someday explanations could be widely posted on the actual site that your actual userbase is all reliably using.

The thing posted on social media was a link to Grace's explanation on this thread. So that's exactly what happened.

Posts about "the site's down right this minute" I get. But I guarantee not everyone saw Grace's explanation and still hasn't, because it's buried in a thread, and so people have to keep reposting it or redirecting people to the post.

I guarantee a bulk of the site isn't aware of this thread, either.

Again. Not everyone goes to social media for all of their subeta news. It's a blind spot that continues to be very frustrating. This has been going on for days and the only information about it is in very out of the way places. It's not an effective transmission of information.

Admin posts exists for a reason. I talked to about linking it on the news page too so hopefully more people check it regularly. Saying things are buried in the forums makes it seem like it's impossible to find, but it really isn't. One click of admin posts and all of the digging is done for you.

Yeah, admin posts help, but again, what percentage of this huge userbase know how to find, much less peruse, admin posts?

It's really not that high.

For the casual user, yes, it is close to impossible to find. I'm a pretty involved user and even I get lost in the threads and don't check places like the admin feed. It's ludicrous to expect the casual site users to do so as well unless it's clearly and obviously spelled out in the News, in the site FAQ's, and other such places. It's not.

Point being, casual users and how they use the site should be part of the focus instead of a brushoff. When they see a wall of errors and white pages for days on end with no news post or announcement of "hey, we're working on it, guys", what is the casual user going to do?

They're going to leave and find another site.

Noticeably placed communication with the userbase on the site that they actually use is key.

it's linked in the forum drop down now, and it is on the forum main page. it's not exactly hiding. linking it in the news would really help, but it's not exactly impossible to find

checking admin posts should be something users do regularly, it's a tool that allows users to see what staff says about something without staff needing to repeat things in the news or make another announcement thread.

Uh huh. That's great. Where is that noted in the site FAQs, the forum header FAQ's, the news? It's not.

I only found that about a month and a half ago. I'm on Subeta almost every day.

It's like casual users don't exist in everyone's mind. I guarantee there are people on this site that visit regularly that don't touch the forums.

Expecting everyone on this site to intuit the location of the one part of the site that might sometimes help them, occasionally, is not helpful.

I don't understand what's so difficult about just posting an announcement or a newspost.

I really don't get the pushback and I'm not going to change my mind no matter how often the admin feed link is posted. I hate that this happens over and over again and we're expected to go spelunking through the forums to find out what should be posted up for everyone to see.

Other sites manage this quite handily. It shouldn't be this difficult.

I'm working on getting it in the news! eventually will roll out the newbie guide that will act as a site faqs. it was in the works but it was lost during the server migration, so it needs to be worked on again. it was mentioned in there the last time I saw the guide but that was before it was lost.

expecting 100% of staff communication to go through the news is unreasonable. without visiting the forums, they miss siteupdate pings as well. users need to take some responsibility, the tools are there to make things easy to find.

I've added 'Staff Forum Posts' (aka the admin post feed) under "Check Out" on the news page. :) Hopefully, people will start keeping up with the posts, maybe checking them once a week or something.

i think what lirikai is hoping for is not staff conversation list, because that requires focused reading and digging into the forum thread to understand the situation. and they are conversation.

i hate to bring other pet site into the discussion, but flight rising site status is the sort of thing they want. short, clear and precise.

As we posted last month when we brought attention to the Admin Posts Feed, it’s a good resource for people to see posts we (staff) have made. Posts in the feed are usually about issues in P&B, helping users out, etc. I put it on the “Check Out” section of the news because made a good point that not everyone uses the forums, so of course, those users are less likely to use the drop down menu on the forums interact navigation to find admin posts or go to the main page of the forums for the admin posts. I don’t want those users to miss out on questions I or other staff members have answered because they didn’t know about the Admin Feed. :)

We are looking into a status page though for when the site is down/having issues, but that's not really what I was trying to address with the admin post thing.

Ermahgerd, it's beautiful. ;;

Thank you!

I mean, yeah, in my perfect world there'd be news posts or update threads, but short of that it's a huge improvement - easier visibility and quick access to information. c:

Has anyone considered perhaps making the staff posting an option to add to our user dashboards? That's a feature I wouldn't mind seeing. I don't often check the links on the right of the news feed unless there's an event going on. I do, however, continuously check my friends feed... which is what brings me to most of the staff postings (seeing you or Keith post cough).

[edit] OR including everyone in like... # subetastaff ping group?

I still didn't see an explanation but it took me five times to even get Subeta loaded.I'm on PM but it looked like the site loaded missing the CSS file.

Today, I've been getting lots of issues with 502 and 504 gateway errors! :P

It's really frustrating, especially as I decided to open a GA a couple of days ago. Guess I won't do it again if I can't even keep up the set enough to quest or restock.

[Edit] It seems like magically, after I posted this and disabled Pusher.js (even though I'm on Safari, not Firefox), the 502 and 504's stopped. Is it as a result of Pusher.js or the site just... working?

[Edit 2] Nevermind: Looks like the 502 and 504 errors are just coming in and out for me. Sometimes they're bad, sometimes they're nonexistent.
