You need to get bitten by other people with it. If that doesn&;t happen, it will develop on its own but it takes 3+ days
This frustrates me.
If you want older strains and they happen to be less popular and no one is biting you can possibly have 3 to 6 days (if you want two less popular strains) of this event where nothing is happening for you. And probably not get a chance at a 3rd strain at all. Who would think this was a good idea?
No one should have to wait more than 24 hours to be infected and I think considering the current length of stage advancements that even that is a little long.
Yeah. I was hoping to be quick and maybe get in 3 strains, but between my two older virus choices, I'll probably have spent about 5-6 days waiting based on the clock I've got going now.

going on possibly 24hr since signing up for my second virus... nothing yet. I'm tempted to cut the loss of the price of the butterfly virus to go with my second choice barnackle... if I don't see anything soon I'm going to. But this just SUCKS! it's supposed to be a fun time where you mock the ideal of valentine's with zombies; what's the point if 85% of players are still "human" rather than zombie? The staff have to know that the skins are the most coveted of the event; making the attaining of the harder just discourages players rather than invite them to join... , hint, hint, hint???

I signed up for a virus 3 days ago and nothing... it's one that's hard to get bites for, too (Bubble Jelly). Starting to worry I wasted my sP :(
I have to agree with most of what was said on here. This was my first survival since skins have been able to be kept, and the lack of communication has been somewhat astounding. I found myself incredibly confused the first few days, and it's very unfair that it can take so long to get infected if you choose a virus that is less popular.
This is going to sound whiny as hell but I dont care- the only reason I even come to subeta is events. And survival has always been the best one; last year the site was unstable as hell but I dont recall having all these issues with virus times, and I dont understand why its so different this year to begin with? Last year I paid for an immediate random new strain and I had the infection within minutes. I know the first part of the event was glitched this year but I cant wrap my head around WHY some of these wait times are just being passed off as "oh thats just how it is" when it wasnt last year. It hasnt been nearly as enjoyable to log in and try to track my strain progress because even though I picked a fast moving virus i've only progressed ONCE A DAY? Not even every 12-14 hours.. It's not fun, theres no plus side to all this waiting, and quite honestly it makes me want to say forget it and just quit trying for events anymore. And as I said before the events are all I even come back for, soooo... please fix them before users like I just become bored and leave the site. I'd still log in every now and then, but if you expect to keep people actively playing, some things definitely NEED to be worked on here.

Finally on stage seven! Not even ONE skin done yet?!! WHEN does the speed up that supposedly happens actually HAPPEN? I'll be lucky to get two skins this year and I am highly, highly disappointed. I remember Grelca (I think) saying that closer to the event end things speed up - does anyone know when this actually occurs???

Usually the last day or two of the event have reduced wait times for things like kissing, dancing, and trick-or-treating. I know Grace said (or at least implied?) something about reduced times for the viruses, but I honestly don't remember that ever happening before. We'll have to wait and see.

I want to say from past experience the 'speed up' didn't usually happen til like the last few days of the event, but I honestly can't recall for sure.
Four days and I still haven't been "matched" yet. I know I need to get bites, but if it's taking me this long to accomplish that, clearly I should've been matched by a specialist by now?
I think this is my third day waiting on my Freckle Fever bite (I don't even know anymore)....this is incredibly frustrating and I don't really get what this system accomplishes. I'm trying to be open minded, but I don't understand the value of forcing people to wait for one of their favorite parts of survival, and to wait for most of the event for it.
The whole "wait for a specialist" system would make a lot more sense if we were able to be more proactive in finding a specialist or speed up the process somehow - going to the forums and trying to swim to the surface long enough to get TEN bites is an absurd amount of effort that could take just as long if not longer than waiting for the specialist. If we're supposed to be connecting somehow there should be like, virus "clinics" or "headquarters" where we can more readily find and connect with specialists - maybe there are NPC tasks we can do to "gain favor with specialists" and decrease our wait time.
Half the problem with the current system is even if someone DOES have a virus, that doesn't guarantee they're on the forums biting and even if they are, they can't bite every person who wants their bite, let alone ten times. Supply does not meet demand if this is supposed to be strictly user-to-user interaction. There needs to be an external method faster than a forced wait system that no one understands to get more people able to bite so they can share those bites with users, infect them, and move the whole system forward.
But maybe I don't understand the system's needs. I wish there was a discussion so it could be better understood, I'd love to know where my thoughts here fall short of the system reality.
Either way, this waiting and not knowing what if anything will happen is frustrating at best and infuriating at worst. I do hope it changes for next year, or more information is given soon.
I wish we could use skins we've already unlocked to bite even while we're progressing through another infection. I feel bad every time I see someone unable to find bites for an infection I have, but can't use since I'm still progressing through another virus. :(
I'm going to try to give some bites after I finish with my current virus, but with how long it takes to get infected and progress through a virus I won't want to waste too much of my time biting other people before I get working on my next one. There's just not enough incentive to bite other people if making yourself available to bite takes away from the time you can use to get other viruses.
noticed that even if I can't redeem the skin yet, I've progressed enough in my freckle fever to bite, so trying to bite you as frequently as I can. Hopefully you'll be infected soon.
The wait times are not good, makes me want to forget about getting the older strains that I want to get. :( It shouldn't take more than 24 hours to get infected without the bites.

or they should let us know what the wait time will be for the older ones; like asking "are you sure" before clearly accepting. If i had known the wait times for the older ones, I'd've gone for the newer one first. But who wants to throw away x sp?
Either have a "are you sure, this virus is rare and may take up to x days to form?" button or a refund option. I finally got the butterfly started but this is ridiculous; who doesn't love the idea of becoming zombies during the love-sick time of valentine's? I get that the skins are coveted but the times have to seriously be reviewed.

tbh I STILL don't understand the reasoning. says that everything is exactly as it should be, but WHY? What is the point of people waiting 4+ days to be infected? How is it beneficial to the site? To the users? How is it a fun event for people to literally be waiting around doing nothing
the reason old viruses have a 3 day wait in the queue (this does not apply to this year's viruses, which start at two hours) is because we don't want you to sit and do nothing and wait. we want you to get out there and interact with your fellow zombie users and get them to bite you.
aside from that, though, i honestly don't really understand the logic of this question (which i have seen from quite a few people) simply because after you're infected you're literally just waiting and doing nothing while it progresses. i guess i just don't see how a few extra hours (because we don't wait you to wait three days in the queue! we want you to be social on the forums and be bitten! that's the reason old viruses are in the queue so long - to encourage that.) makes much of a difference in the long run (and again, the first day the queue actually was broken, so the day wait people had at the beginning doesn't count).
also, keep in mind that you only used to be able to get one a year total, and you didn't get any choice in which one at all!
we are definitely still taking all of your feedback into account, and discussing it behind the scenes. please don't think we're ignoring any of this!
While I understand the intent behind the wait 3 days is really too long. Some strains are frustratingly tricky to get bites for, particularly if your timing is off since most people only bite in stage 6-7 [not to mention 2010 strands which don't have a biting but not complete period].
I got lucky when I got Bindi Bite [just timing] but I saw other users trying for days, in the threads like they are expected to, to get the bites they needed and fail. I think the wait time needs to be reevaluated since we really can't depend on there being users there to bite us.
I guess the main frustration is that even when we are social and posting on the forums, there still aren't any biters for some strains. Sometimes it's because a strain is unpopular, and the amount of users with the said strain can be very small. Sometimes it's merely because most users who can bite are getting new strains. I understand the good intention of making people interact with each other, however, it ends up discouraging users wanting less popular strains.
I have no problem with the timing of the virus progression once we get infected, because it's the same for everybody. However, the 3-day wait for the "unbitten" unintentionally punishes those who wanting less popular strains. This year, a lot of us won't get as many skins as the ones who can find biters easily for all their skins, and our only "fault" is choosing the "wrong" strain (considering a lot of us are actively seeking bites on the forum).
I know we aren't meant to get every skin, and I'm not even a skin collector myself. However, it just feels a bit unfair for some users to wait extra days due to their choices of strains/the lack of biters.

Then, maybe there should be something for biters? I mean, I have nothing to encourage me to go bite people, so why do it, while I could go and get a third skin for myself instead.
Agreed with either that, or make biting easier - in all stages past the first stage, or someone with the virus but isn't currently wearing it can bite. maybe the virus is dormant but still transmittable?
The thing is I think users are trying to get out there and have others bite them for older rarer strains. BUT those same users that may have those strains are trying to get strains of their own and with the wait times as they are, they don't want to sit and not try to get infected and bite people missing their own chance to get strains.
I do understand that by keeping wait time up tho that people can't blow thru every strain and have ALL that are possible. I don't think a single user between this year and last year has a chance or time to get everything. WHICH I think is fair. But people sitting around asking to be bitten and looking for people to bite them and people going "Well I have that strain, BUT since I am going for this other strain I cant bite you" is the tough part. MAYBE during the time period of Waiting to be infected and people to bite you, you are able to bite others until you are infected? I don't know seems like something. I am sure the code writing would be a pain in the rear end tho. Yet having users wait DAYS seems a bit much and disappointing.
