Your answer to that question was also some condescending crap where you assumed you knew how I, or anyone else felt, and acted like you somehow knew our feelings better. You're not our mother, you don't know us better than we know ourselves, and how we choose to use the blocking feature is none of your business or concern. Nobody appreciates being treated like a child.

I&;m not really sure why the dialogue has morphed into &;why have blocking at all?&; It serves a purpose. I&;ve never used the feature and I don&;t plan to, but I don&;t have any objection to it existing.

I think we&;ve ascertained that we don&;t receive a notification when you&;ve been blocked and that we don&;t want the blocker to control what we do and do not see. If you don&;t want to see their content, block them back. Crisis averted. I&;m not sure how much further this topic can go.

Honestly. This.

Quiet true, but I know something about avoidance behaviour (= psychological term, I don´t know if it is the scientific term in Englisch) from my education. It is plain fact that avoidance behaviour is always hurtful in the long run.

[Edit] I was reminded that there is a difference trying to change peoples thinking and to force them. I´ll close the discussion at this point. Thanks for the reminder

I'm a little confused about why the notification for being blocked was removed. What if a user is blocked and, without knowing it, pings the person who blocked them? Is that harassment? It seems unrealistic to ask users to routinely check the page that says who has blocked you. How often should you check it? Every month? Every hour?

Again with the 'I know better than you' attitude. Stop it. Ignoring people I don't like is how I handle my conflict. I'm mature enough to know I can't change their opinion, and not two-faced to pretend to be civil to them.

Other people can't handle conflict. It makes them sick, it makes them shaky, and putting the people that make them uncomfortable on block - strangers on the internet, mind you, people that don't matter to them - is what makes them feel comfortable. Cutting bad people out of your life is mature and responsible.

Just because you have an 'education' does not mean you know better

This topic actually got me to check who's blocked me and I was just recently blocked and had no idea. I understand not getting a notification but I also hope that I wouldn't get a warning for harassment if I unknowingly pinged the person. brings up good points.

The reason you don't get a notification is that, as shown by this thread, some people will get their panties in a twist if someone blocks them.

Blocking someone as a mean of bullying them ? wut ?

Yeah, I'm in agreement with those that would like a notification. I'd like it if you could at least toggle whether to be alerted if you're blocked. I hadn't ever been and I poked through there fairly recently only to see someone had. What if I had offered on their trade lot? Would it go through? Would I be reported for harassment if I hadn't seen that in time?

Do you have a rare item that just won't sell? Are you going through the high levels of Item Hunt? Or maybe you just HATE that blue bunny? Then you should join IHH helpers and IHH bargain in the forum groups!

You'd be able to appeal such a warning if there as no intent of harassing the person. If there's recidive though, then you'd get warned probably

Did forum groups ever get fixed in regards to blocking?

Because that used to keep user B from enjoying the full range of the site, especially if it was a 'big' group like News, NewCW, TSRestock, etc.

If it's a private group (with invite required or approval required) that is one thing. But a public group should -not- be restricted. Honestly I'd say the private groups shouldn't be either (since the Blocker won't see them, and the Blockee can see any posts anyways) but not sure how that would work with approval if Blocker is the only admin.

I honestly didn't think that was possible. How do you do it? I'm morbidly curious now, to be honest.

I don&;t really know how I feel about the blocking system. And the Rules page still has incorrect info about blocking.
I wonder if this is something that can fix?

a) No one has or should ever have to justify why they block someone. It's their decision and theirs alone. Morality ? Get bent. Blocking is just that. a block. A fullstop on interaction. There's no third party mediating or saying it's okay or whatever.

 1. Having a notification would be beneficial, or at LEAST a toggle for notifications. I have four people who have blocked me, years ago. a notification if someone does would be a good way to make sure a user doesn't get nailed for "harassment" if they offer on a trade/ping the one who blocked them IF THEY KNEW ABOUT IT.

c) If they block me, they don't get to see anything of mine. I did not block them. I should still be able to read their forum posts at minimum. Profile comments, but unable to comment them, although if they blocked me, I wouldn't care to check their profile, because, well, fuck you then. You want to block me ? Forum posts can be useful but trying to spend time looking at your profile ? No.

Blocking is useful, let it stand.

I didn't actually blocked anybody but I want the right to do so if I want.

Since some conflicts simply can not be solved and others just need no solving, for my opinion blocking is a good method to prevent unnecessary anger and fighting on site.

This site does NOT exist so people can get therapy or solve issues, it exists to have fun and relax. In that context it is just better to block people you don't get along with instead wasting energy to solve issues, unimportant who or what caused this. And I don't only see people arguing. What if, just assuming a hardcore scenario, someone looses a child and wants to block a young mother who tells about her newborn kid? Solving this problem should be avoided at all cost as long as the said person is alone on this site! This is something that should be addressed in therapy and with support and not in a game. So blocking would be better. Of course this would be an extreme we all hope won't happen but I think I could make a point that it makes no sense to force people to discuss trigger around here, it's just the wrong environment. If they want to, fine! If not, just block.

Another more harmless thing would be for example if someone blocked an artist who does not interact much on site but posting regularly art I just don't like but it's in any other way absolutely acceptable and said artist keeps pinging groups I don't want to leave. Should I really argue with this artist and deprive them of their right to express themselves if just blocking them would remove them from my feeds and pings and therefor solve my problem?

And at last, I could also block people I just don't want to interact with, just because I want to, no special reason beyond not wanting to see them. On a site which I come too to relax, that should be absolutely acceptable.

Of course it wouldn't be fair if my decision influences them in any way concerning on what they can see. Maybe it's not even their fault that I blocked them but just my decision, so having my output autoblocked for them is not OK.

As to the notification: I think there might be other options to prevent unintentional harassment. The notification could come up for example if anyone actually tries to have forbidden contact without it being a warning immediately. So for example if I try to ping a user who has blocked me it could trigger a notification that tells me that I can't ping that person because he or she blocked me and as long as I leave it be that's it then and nothing bad happens.

Honestly I have no idea why, over all the years this site has existed, why this seems to be such an issue to implement. Blocks should be silent, and the person blocking someone else should be able to prevent any communication from both parties and the shouldn't have to see the person's stuff they're blocking. That's it. Literately anything and everything else is inciting drama, and considering the very nature of subeta spawning of a tumblr blog specifically for complaining about people here and an actual forum dedicated to drama on this site, that's the last thing this site needs.

I've been playing here for nearly a decade and I don't know why this is such a debated issue. So many sites have systems and they work just fine so I don't know why we just don't mirror someone else and then fix any issues that pop up from subeta being subeta on the way. :| Notifications cause drama, unconsecrated mirror blocking causes drama, etc.

If anything the blocking system should be reverted and if there are cases showing people going out of their way to harass people than we need to get to the root of the problem and implement REAL repercussions for harassment.

The answer to harassment shouldn't just be "block them." It should be "block them" and then the person harassing someone else deserves actual punishment, warnings, restrictions, and/or banning. Anything else is just babying people that are 13+ years old and should already know better, especially because of the new site rules people have to agree to that were already implemented awhile back.

The blocking system should be used to silence people you don't wish to see, and to help with the initial stages of harassment. It shouldn't be used to solve anything that would warrant denying content (ex: more information to harass further) to the blocked individual.

If someone wants to harass and hurt someone that's already blocked them, mirror blocking isn't going to solve it. They'll find a way to do it regardless.
