Yeah, that's mainly the only reason why I wasn't sure about the lifelike dolls because I'd expect them to wait until they're all released (but with them all being released and having their own Subetapedia articles it'd be easier to have the ingredients call for items that relate to each species.) But like long term has always been the idea behind this because there is no way this can be solved in a short term way.

And to people crying murder of the 99%, if 500k-1 mil is expensive then you aren't playing Subeta right. I'm not saying that in a condescending way, but quests are designed that if you do them for profit and skip any outrageous ones you are almost guaranteed at least 1 mil. daily. Along with that, I chose the prices based on people who collect Elixirs because after this system we'd maybe get like a new round of elixirs maybe yearly because of a new pet and even then that would be cheaper than just the collection items that get added to the Millionaire Center seasonally. I mean, you're still going to have tons of Elixirs in the system if a change like this were to happen and it'd be awhile before the price was brought up. And if it does shoot up then you can blame your fellow users for inflating the elixirs, but we have such an abundance and the fact that people shouldn't be using like 10 Elixirs a day means they should inflate slowly.

Honestly, I'm leaning more towards a 1 mil. price range right now due to the prices of Potions. Think about it, Potions should not be more expensive than Elixirs. Logically doesn't it make more sense that changing a species' color AND species should cost more than just changing the color alone? (I'm sure there is a flaw in this logic in terms of gameplay and I've been trying to think of it, but it's not coming to me right now) It doesn't really make any sense that someone can use an Elixir of their same pet's species and get a color cheaper than if they used the potion. I get the potions are sometimes the only exclusive way to get a color, like Bumbus or Bhakoru pets, but that isn't really enough.

I do enjoy yolo changing my pets with cheap elixirs, but the idea of changing your pet with effort rather than just with sPs alone is a really nice part of Subeta, and I wouldn't object to it as a concept.

Eg. There could be different tasks for different tiers of colour eg. Arid/Gold/Marsh potions are cheaper than say Nightmare/Reborn, and these could apply to your active pet same as Hydrus/Nightmare. Same could be done for species, and of course not all would be affected eg. I think aenoids, neela, bumbii would keep their current concept?

The quests don't have to be item-based either, I wouldn't mind drills-esque tasks either :) This would be an interesting concept to see, given that elixirs seem to be more often used for quest fodder/rewards than their actual intended purpose.

I really like the idea of incorporating brewing potions and ingredients. I especially love the idea of incorporating the lifelike dolls into the mix, and changing the ingredients based on where the pet comes from. I'm all for little lore flavour additions, too, and this suggestion thread seems to wrap up everything I would enjoy into one concept.

Granted: I'm a little biased since I collect the dolls and I have several pets involved in that sort of aclhemist/apothecary theme/concept already.

So, while seeing things either revamped or added to in this vein would be fantastic for me personally... I also recognise that just because I like thing doesn't mean it's necessarily good for other people or the site itself.

I just wanted to go "yo this is cool can we have something like this?" I guess.

I like a lot of what's being brought up in this thread ( come read) because I just want what a lot of people have brought up: some lore being brought into things, some more focus on pets, and just overall fun (who doesn't like crafting)!

brings up a good point that elixirs should change the pet species while potions should color them. Part of me just wants to make all the elixirs give you the common version of the pet (ha wouldn't that be fun) because like said, we don't want to take more away from pet people.

I like the idea had of bringing in the decanter. In general, I like the idea of brewing things because we have so many spell ingredients on site and really the possibilities could be so cool because not only do we have lifelike dolls (eventually we'll have them all out i swear) but we have other pet-themed items like ruffie bones or whatever. Get your cauldron ready, add in your ingredients, pray it works. I honestly love the idea of your possible potion blowing up in your face.

Also, , I don't think everything needs to be expensive. I just think we could do the elixir system a lot better because right now we have so many onsite to the point that I don't think anyone really restocks them unless they are asked for quests. I want people to really be into their pets, you know?

If this happens, I believe you may need to just pull apothecary from the mystery box lineup. I think Keith hinted that the merge was sorta done to fix apothecary mystery box from giving away too many boosters.

Yeah, that was part of the reason we moved things there even though it killed boosters/potions for you guys (WHICH I FEEL BAD ABOUT BUT STILL lesser of two evils because both shops didn't have much stock so combining helped with a lot of things). Like said, this isn't a thing we can do like tomorrow or within the next month, really.

I'm glad that some piece of that made sense, pffft.

I'm jumping on the bandwagon though that if elixirs get retired I'd love to see them become an artifact because I was working on collecting them. Maybe not add any new ones into the system but it'd be nice to leave the old ones without the function. That may be too confusing though so I'd probably be fine either way.

Oh yeah. We'd never just completely get rid of elixirs no matter what we did because they are great bottles and a lot of people collect them for pets that brew things ( and her pet Snape come to mind haha).

Sometimes, I say things that make sense and have semi-decent ideas.

Credit goes to Nicholas for the core idea, because I love it. It's a nice long-term project for the site, not something that's gonna happen tomorrow, so we have time to go and think about what should be done.

(Also I am always hype for explosions)

I'm trying to bring more of my pet-obsessed friends to come and brainstorm! Like already I'm just thinking of all the cool NPCs we could bring in on this. Like if we were messing with actual potions? ELEMENTAL MAGE SHOWS YOU HOW TO MASTER DEATH aka graveyard. Louis flirting with you while making sweetheart. Alexander making you read books on whatever color just so you get the gist of a potion. I JUST LOVE OUR NPCS SO MUCH.

(also yes bless u for this thread)

I guess I am biased but I do not see what it actually helped. it would be much easier to take out apoth from mystery box or do away with mystery box completely (does anyone do this other than apoth day and for drills???) the small stock is something that really appealed to me, there are so many shops here with just so much junk and it's terrible to sit and restock in.

I'm going to message you in detail more about the small stock vs large just so we don't veer off topic to much! But basically, if a shop doesn't have that many items (for example Freylise) then it won't restock as often (or at least that's what I gathered from what Keith told me). I'd ideally like a balance of how many items are in a shop at once total (not like during a restock but from the pool of items). It's a thing and I need to discuss further. :)

Messing with actual potions over messing with elixirs would require more education, and a levelling system, akin to scrolls.

Maybe with points, with the skills/luck you have with brewing elixirs?

Like at first, you could start with, idk, the possibility to go and brew elixirs for...probably the five most popular species. Kumos, Montre, Jollin, Lain, Tigrean. After like 2-3 successful brews, you can learn how to make 3-4 species and you unlock all of the unlimited species this way.

Then, after this, you start to unlock the former limited species - Telenine, Kerubi, Sheeta, Antlephore, Cybill

After this, you unlock the currently limited species, Cadogre and Endeavor

After this, you unlock the special pet recipes. Aeanoid (Requiring a garden item), Bumbus (Requiring a BB item), Bhakoru (Requiring a Crypts-exclusive item) and Neela (Requiring a Cash Shop item)

After you're done with elixir crafting, you can craft low level potions, like Arid, Lilac and Field, up to restockable Apothecary potions : Nightmare, Reborn and such.

Part of me feels like you'll have to bribe Blackmoon to learn the secret to the Cadogre and Endeavor. Like to have a better chance at making it haha.

and oooooh didn't realize you guys wanted to mess with potions as well. Because you sort of already combine items for what glade and glacier? Well, you fill the pitcher with special magic water for glade haha.

I'd like to have the ability to buy something from Calvin to make Cadogres and Endeavors, yes.

Like, we will have (any bottle that turns pet into the camel experiment) + (specie-specific item) to turn into a (essence of pet specie)

then, we use the essence of pet specie with (color lifelike specie doll) to get the elixir we want.

So, we'd have to bribe Calvin to get the specie-specific item. "Cadogre Oil" or "Endeavor Fuel" or whatever.

If I wanted a Golden Endeavor transformation thing, I'd have to do this

Bottle of Water + Endeavor Fuel = Essence of Endeavor

Essence of Endeavor + Golden Lifelike Endeavor Doll = Golden Endeavor Elixir

AND IDK FOR POTIONS, MAYBE I GOT CONFUSED WITH THIS SENTENCE YOU SAID

Oh yeah, I just meant look at all the cool NPCs we could've used if potions were a thing. IF WE DO MESS WITH POTIONS, WE GOT THE NPCS TO BACK THEM UP. I was trying to brainstorm what npcs would want to help like species outside of blackmoon hahahah. We do have some mad scientists that would enjoy it, I believe. Elucid? Ian? race to see who can make the best things.

Wow, now I'm just picturing like. Teaming up with Ian and being better at some pets than others so like say he wasn't good with Demi's and he's trying to teach you... you'd have to have like an extra ingredient rather than if you learned from the other guy.

THERE ARE SO MANY POSSIBILITIES TO ADDING TWISTS TO THIS.

(I'm also very sleepy and have cold medicine in me so I could be making literally 0 sense right now)

I am loving this so much

LOOK AT ALL THIS LORE THAT CAN BE BUILT AROUND THIS SUGGESTION

thread of the year

I also commented you with that one, but if there are potions, I was thinking of exclusive colorfills (not reposes) namely CMY = Cyan, Magenta and Yellow (so that dusk and dawn can be less across the board, and we can have a brighter yellow that's not shiny) and not official potions.

Probably random result? Like YOU FUCKED UP SO BADLY TRYING TO MAKE THAT DUSK AEANOID ELIXIR YOU GOT A MAGENTA POTION, WAY TO GO CHAMPION.

Woah, was not expecting all this to read when I came back, but I just want to say that I didn't want to be too specific in my OP or too radical, but I would totally be on board with Potions getting an overhaul as well (especially since now that I think about it we've kind of been heading there with Glacier requiring traversing the frozen tundra, Glade requiring respect of a natural reserve in order to obtain water, and Hydrus, Nostalgia, and Galactic already requiring their own quest) and basically just revamping the entire structure behind changing pet species/color. There really are a lot of possibilities and I think with a change like this it would also immediately help new users in not only learning about the site, but becoming immersed in the site and I'd hope increase the rate of users who actually stay beyond the first week.

And I have so many ideas, but I feel like maybe if this does get picked up or considered further there should be an official brainstorm topic because I, and I'm sure many others, could go on for pages and pages with ideas.

I would be fine with a way to make these (decanter or elemental mage). That actually sounds like a nice idea! I think I would cry forever if they were just not created anymore. I love them to pieces D:

I would love if it also required wizard tokens because I am sitting over here with a stack over 353k without incentive to spend them.
