This is possibly the laziest thing Subeta has ever done.
Wow, what lovely constructive criticism.
I like the idea of less text - when I was submitting my entry I thought the "describe the logo" section was going to be admin-view only. That's on me for assuming, of course, but I think presenting it as "Add a logo image OR a description of the logo" would have been better. I think having both is too much information.
To be honest I ended up skimming for names I liked, then read those entries more in depth and chose from those.
Yep, me too. My poor sad drawing I didn't think everyone would see. :(
It would have made more sense to just have us vote on the item name and description and just let the art department worry about the submitted logos and logo descriptions depending on which items got made. I've not voted yet but I'm going to ignore the logos and logo descriptions and just vote on the names and item description. And even that will be hard with 300 of them.

"Woe to those who make unjust laws, to those who issue oppressive decrees, to deprive the poor of their rights and withhold justice from the oppressed of my people, making widows their prey and robbing the orphan." - Isaiah 10:1-2
I don't think this would work, though. The visual design is a really important aspect of many entries. I know I only voted for entries where I liked the title and concept, but also the logo/bottle description.
I'm kicking myself for not having art on mine, haha. I agree with Sopheroo, that separating art and no art would have been cool. Or that having the staff pick X amount first would have been better.
We'll see!
i am completely in agreement with Five. :)

I really really extremely want:I think if entries were to be separated by art/no art then they should warn us beforehand. My art is not good enough to compete against the real artists' work but I included it to help explain my logo. If I knew that I would only be competing against entries with drawn logos I probably wouldn't include my picture.
I think it would have been better to show five at a time and choose a favourite which would mean people could read descriptions and invest as much/little time as they wanted in voting.
I only hope that the users with great ideas but no sent in images will stand a chance, too. I saw some great entries and it would be a shame if they would lose out only because the users that came up with them cannot draw.
I'm not voting, either. This voting process was ridiculously poorly thought out.
I read through titles, honestly. If your title doesn't grab me, then eh. But even then I only got half-way down the page and about cried doing it.
These could have been listed with a spoiler-esque option? Like the title is there with a blurb to the right of it, and a "read more" button if you're interested. Because if an item name doesn't grab your interest, it shouldn't grab your vote. And, at the end of whatever Wall-O-Text they supplied you, there could be a link like oh hey, this comes with a picture -- or the item name is linked -- and then the picture comes up in a pop up or something.
As far as the rating thing? I think it's a good theoretical idea? But I know for me, at least, I tend to feel bad rating things unless I really just do not like them, or I love them to death. So my ratings end up as a lot of 1, 2, 5, and 9, 10. I rarely, if ever, use half of the available numbers. Rating gives me worry, yo.
I sifted through descriptions -- I voted for a few with art, a few without art, and all of them had to have descriptions of a beer I'd actually drink. (: I finished voting on the first day and haven't looked back since. Good luck to all contestants!

I mostly skimmed through, picking out things that caught my eye, clicked vote and reviewed those five more closely, deselected the ones that weren't as interesting or descriptive as I'd thought, and went to pick some more. Trying to do it in one go was never going to happen. I may not have managed to pick the five that would be my absolute favourites to drink, but I have picked five with interesting concepts which actually put the work in, and I'm happy with that.
^^^ esp because I hate beer, sorry - a lot of the flavor stuff was so not my vibe
Awh man I've really tried to put some thought into how this could have been handled better but it all seems to come down to users wanting to see all entries(which is what was asked for) vs users getting overwhelmed by the sheer volume of entries(which is what happened).
First off, I think I would have preferred separating ones with and without images as there is an apparent preference toward entries with images, probably due to voters being overwhelmed by the walls of text. Also! Can we have a filter so you can't see your own entry please! (I mean come on most people will vote for themselves and 5 votes was already a tight enough squeeze without adding yourself in there)
With the current system of being able to see all entries, I would have liked to have been able to select all entries I was initially interested in, to then be taken to a screen where I can see all the ones I've chosen and whittle down those until I get my final five (instead of faffing around forgetting which ones I liked and forgetting how may votes I'd already dished out).
Creating separate categories would have cut the voting process into smaller, more manageable chunks, but then that would be on the staff to decide how many winners per category would be allowed.
I do like the idea of being able to rate entries but only if there is a filter so that you can't see your own entry (as otherwise you could vote everyone 0/10 but yourself). To add, if with this idea users are shown a random entry until they have rated all (i.e entries are taken out of their individual pool when they have been rated by the user), then a system should be in place to ensure entries with fewer rates are more likely to show up next/entries with more rates show up less as with a truly random system, if users do not take the time to vote for every entry then some may end up being seen and rated more than others. (If that makes sense)
I think mostly I've just re-barfed suggestions by everyone else in this topic but there were a few good ones aha. That said I would really urge people with free time on their hands to go and read through these entries because some of them are nothing short of fantastic and I hope the creators of some of my favourites come forward after the contest is over ;w;
I think the results of the contest speaks for itself. The way the entries were presented was far to overwhelming with text on the page (I tried I scrolled and scrolled and scrolled and it never seemed to stop) and for a lot of players that didnt have time to pour over the entries instead turned to art which takes far less time to judge.
Personally the problem is two fold in terms of things that should not happen again: Art vs Text: Visual art can very easily trump text when there's to much of one. There should two sections judged independently and with their own winners, one should be with art and one without.
Method of Voting: The manner in which we had to vote choosing from a never ending page with text was to much, everyone seems to agree on. I think some other ideas like breaking up how many are viewed on a page at once. And maybe a way to prevent it from being to much text to read you split all entries into three-six groups and match it with a population of the sites players. So group 1 players vote on section 1 entrants a third of the over-all entries. So there's so much LESS to go through.
Personally I didn't enter but voted. And was a little sad that none of the text only ones won, there was some really cool ideas out there. Congrats to the winners as well though! I hope this can be better organized for any similar or repeating contests.

I'm glad I didn't even bother to participate, as a non-artist I felt that I would stand no chance and (sadly) I was right. Hopefully staff will find a way to make it more balanced next time, like letting x ideas with and x ideas without art win to give everyone a fair chance.
I don't understand why people want pages again. If there were 25 entries per page you would have 12 pages. If you wanted less entries per page the page number would go up quickly. Users complained a lot about having to skim through too many pages in the past. Those who complain now that they want pages because it was too hard to look at 300 entries, well, they won't look at 300 entries if on lots of pages neither.
I like the idea of the "2-phase-voting system" as described in the first post. There are always so many entries for user contests, always, be it pumpkins or dress-up.
